I am an African American registered as a repubican who agrees with Michael Steele but I think it is too little too late. The Republican party has given up on us and the Bush administration more or less used us, mostly the black christian church members who voted for him,to help get elected. He never did anything with the faith based community although he had several pastors to attend a meeting that was meant to promote goodwill with the christian community towards doindg something about addressing the social problems of the nation.I would have voted for the Republic party had Mike Huckabee won but I am fearful that McCain is more of the same and there is no coherent policy coming from his campaign. It is more confused than the administration we have been party to for 8 years. So I am resigned to vote for the Democratic party and look forward to 2016 when Kuckabee will have a chance to win. I think Barack Obama is serious about turning this nation around and really has a heart for people. None of the people who are against him have given up as much as he has to help those who have been force to live on the streets unless you've been there. I am one who had to live in the streets and I know it takes someone with a heart for people to get out there and help when you could have immensely more by taken the opportunities that are available. The man had everything at his fingertips but instead he sacrificed it to go to lowest part of the city to help the downtrodden. I think he will make a tremendous President for all people and he has the intelligence to surround himself with a group of wise men as well as women from both parties to lead this country back. Apparently you're going to the full service stations in NJ Ira. Highest gas price found in NJ was in Summit at $4.89, but that was very high price with the next highest being $4.41. A Shell in Summit had gas at $4.12. People on a budget found gas for $3.83 in NJ. Source:newjerseygasprices.com

I do not understand the seeming double standard. The GOP is the party of Lincoln and the civil rights laws of the 60's were passed because the Republicans insisted while the Democrats resisted.

How is it that the black community largely supports the Democrats then? Senator Byrd, whom some describe as the "conscience of the Senate" has strong ties to the KKK. No one protests or even barely mentions it. I'm sure there are those on the GOP side as well, but they don't get a pass by the media when they're identified. They are disgraced as well they should be. But so should the Democrats. What gives?

It seems to me that the liberal social giveaway policies, Affirmative Action, protectionist policies, etc. of the Democrats are embraced by the black community and its leaders. But those same policies strike me as being a lot like giving a man a fish, but not teaching him to fish. He's fed for the day, but not for life. This type of politics is the politics of dependency and creates a different type of bondage.

So, though I can understand a short-sighted desire to reap from the Democrats' policies, I can't understand why there isn't more forward thinking and individual thinking that would result in the black community being distributed proportionally among the parties. The black community isn't really that monolithic, are they?!?

To me, this is just like the women vote. People are going to vote for who they want to vote for. Both sides are going to get a percentage of all demographics. If a candidate doesn't "woo" a certain group, then that is taking that group for granted, but wont stop others for voting for that candidate.

And by the way, why can't we get to a point where we are all just Americans? Putting lables on different group helps feed into people being treated, and asking to be treated differently. Maybe when we as a society actually come together and realize that we have wonderful people across America that can do wonderful jobs. No matter there heritage background!

As a black female who was once open to voting Republican, what I have seen is that the Republican Party is so addicted to years racial politics and speaking in racial codes to their white constituency that they will never receive any sizeable portion of the black vote. As an African American-I can only speak for myself -BUT -I don't think that this has anything to do with Obama being the Democratic nominee- It has to do with the fact that 90%+ African Americans in this counrty have not voted for a Rebublican candidate since we were "ALLOWED" to vote (or rather were not disenfranchised or killed for trying)- and probably never will. The GOP has set a precedence for NOT being the least bit interested in the Black vote and actually have shown in subtle and not so subtle ways that they just simply HATE BLACK PEOPLE. So we usually go with the LESSER of two evils (even though we acknowledge the fact that some Democrats are racist too!!!) The disdain is just not as bad. Why now, where were these black republicans during the primary when non of the republican candidates (including McCain) would attend black sponsored debates? I will tell these black republicans the same thing I will tell white republicans, if you have a candidate that is looking out for your interest then vote for him/her, not party. The republican party plays to the cultural divide and the majority of black people are not welcome there or supported there. McCain is a good example, he voted against a Martin Luther King Holiday. This token appearance is too little and too late in my opinion. I don't vote for party's, having said that, I would vote for Arnold Scwhatzenager and maybe Standford (SC Gov.) for President and their republican, but most of the other republicans are toxic.

When I look at Senator Jonh McCain's audience, it is not representative of America's diversity. His audience is typically older white individuals. I have noticed an obligatory African American seated directly behind him to give the auspices of diversity to the group. How does Senator McCain intend to change the image of his party, that of exclusion, to to one that embraces inclusion? The later which represents all the diverse and unique individuals who are Americans. Voters are not to be taken for granted by a staged appearance by Senator McCain at a NAACP or Urban League conference. It will be the senator's past record on how he has embraced diversity and how he has championed the rights for others.

I think that the 'black republicans' are absolutely right about this.

If someone is running for President, it's important to *try* with all groups. I don't think McCain will win more than 10% of serious environmentalists either, but he put out a commercial and made an attempt to pitch to them.

Also, 'showing his heart' is the best advise anyone can give. This is an important part of being Presidential . . . for both candidates.

Steele's comments show exactly why he and other "black republicans" don't know diddly about attracting black voters or what they are talking about in general. To suggest that McCain adopting of a dark skinned child somehow shows his commitment to issues which affect African Americans is shallow thinking at best.

Steele, Swann, and the others have lost their minds. McBush of 2000 may have been able to reach out to the African American voters but not now. Not when the African American community has already seen how they will try to paint Obama as a foreigner and a boogy man. Should an American be casted as such just to strike fear in the minds of other Americans? I think not.

Steele, Swann, Blackwell, and Watts have all seen their own political aspirations fall to the waste side by not being able to garner support from the African American community and have found that they themselves were not supported by any other community to offset that gap. McBush does not stand a chance and would be a proven fool if he even tried.

Shame on you Chuck Todd. Your interviews last night on Countdown and your comments this morning on Morning Joe were clearly lacking of any journalistic integrity. Your comment about the old shoe was disastrous. That (Republican) shoe is worn out - we want and need a new one. You forget that the American people really are uncomfortable in the shoes we are currently wearing. It is part of our survival that we need to change shoes.

Also today your comments about Iran and McCain and that somehow we what we like about McCain are things like security and war issues. You could not be further from the truth. Ask Americans if they want John McCain to take us to war with Iran. He was on the losing side AT ALL TIMES of the Iraq war. We shouldn't gone in, the surge "success" is just spin for politicial gain, and the Iraqi government do not want a long term occupation and want us out. Where in there lies good judgement in war time issues with McCain and his policies?

We as the public as sick and tired of the media continuing to repeat as truth the right wing talking points of the day. Not this time! If we wanted only pro-McCain information, we would watched FIXED NEWS. I have to say that you, Andrea Mitchell, Joe Scarborough, and Pat Buchanan are worse than any Fixed News broadcast. At least they are so absurd in their reporting it is humorous. You are just incorrect and manipulative. It is insulting to the American's intellict and ability.

As an AA, I wud never consider McCain or the Republican Party. The party is full of bigots and continuously ignore all minorities. Bush will be the last Rep to be elected ignoring minorites.
