The "reporting" over the weekend about Obama's purported flip-flops bordered on professional malpractice. Why is it that supposedly professional journalists know LESS about what Obama has, and has not, said than thousands of citizens who pay attention only part-time? It's really disgusting that these "journalists" (yes, they deserve quotes) are more interested in crafting story lines that will sell than reporting the facts.

MSNBC has contributed (Thanks to Pat Buchannan and Joe Scarbrough) for distorting the facts that Obama has flip-plopped on Irag. MSNBC analyst should be on target...occasionally. But these two are party hacks and not analysts. REFINING and CLARIFYING is not flip-flopping. Rachael Maddow in Countdown put that issue to rest, but evidently First Read (Chuck Todd) is trying to keep it alive one more news cycle. Enough said.

In the interests of fairness, credit goes to Chris Matthews for highlighting the point that Iraq wants US soldiers to leave, or give a time table. It would be nice if First Read would talk about McOld "refining and clarifying" his position regarding Iraq wanting us to leave.

The big story of the day is Iran shooting off 9 missles. I'm afraid Bush has delusions of being the "end times" President. It's a story that supercedes even politics.

Re paying off the Clinton debt...

In 1988, Dukakis had to pay off J. Jackon's 2 million dollar debt and buy him a plane to get him out of the race.

Paying off debt is not all that unusual.

Considering what we have now seen of him...it is clear why Hillary stayed in...she obviously knew what we were in for.

As a New Yorker...whether or not I vote for him is mute... none the less while I won't vote for McCain, I won't for this phony either.

The right has been spinning the tired old flip-flop line, and the lazy media chew on it for a few days. Same with this "shift to the center for the general" story. It is expected, so the media simply interpret events in that way without doing the hard work. Dig deeper and you find that Barack Obama has never been easy to pigeon-hole. He holds nuanced opinions on many issues because the truth itself is nuanced. Life is complicated! My plea to the media: Don't buy the spin, do the reporting yourself.

What happened to her 18 million voters? A buck a piece would pay off all debts other than her own loan. Or perhaps 10 million of those votes were Repubs trying to stir the pot?

I was on her 'team' until she turned to the politics of 'personal destruction'... That just said 'old, dirty tricks' to my family.

That's when we read the Obama books. I encourage anyone who has any doubts, check them out from your local library.

Like the rest of the corporate media (except Rachel Maddow on Countdown), you are being dishonest about the exchange that occurred. Obama wasn't just defending himself yet again from the bogus "flip-flop" charge, he was addressing a voter who was angry at the way the media had misrepresented Obama's original comments on "refining" his positions as conditions warranted.

Last night, CNN also distorted this story and suggested that since voters were still raising the "flip-flopping" question showed that it was still a "problem" for Obama. Obama's real problem is the corporate media.

One of the most important stories coming out of this campaign is that people are increasingly angered by the media's deceitful coverage of Obama, although that's not a story that you'll find out about from the corporate media.

Pravda never reported that Soviet citizens thought Pravda was a joke, either.

She left her vendors unpaid for months so much for caring about the average white voter. Please, I'd tell her you spent it tough luck. You "forgot" to mention that four years ago, McCain said that if the Iraqis asked us to leave, we should. In other words, McCain was flip-flopping, although that's not the "narrative" that FR is peddling.

McCain also was demonstrating that all the talk about bringing "democracy" to Iraq was a big lie. If the democratically elected government of our Iraqi colony tells us how they want to run their country, McBush will just ignore it and run Iraq the way they want to: into the ground.

Reading these posts today and in the last few weeks, I am mystified by seeming progressives who have any doubt about who would be better for them and for America and for the world, Obama or McCain. I am stunned that any former Clinton supporter would consider McCain over Obama. Clinton and Obama are vastly closer than Clinton and McCain. McCain may have been an independent "maverick" once, but now he represents a continuation of domestic policies that have made the rich richer at the expense of everyone else, and foreign policies that have caused the unnecessary death and maiming of tens of thousands of people, military and civilian, all the while squandering vast amounts of our money. Money that could pay for health care, infrastructure, fighting world hunger and genocide - whatever your progressive priorities. Put your quibbles over this issue or that aside. Don't Naderize this election. Help elect Barack Obama, and we'll squabble over the details once he is President.

Some people will always hear what they want to hear... facts be damned. For example, several people here claim that Obama is calling people confused. He said "Don't be confused. I am going to bring the war to a close" He didn't call anyone anything. The MSM and others claim that he has changed his position. He has consistently stated that he would draw down 1-2 brigades a month in consultation with the commanders on the ground and that the process should take around 16 months. He recently added that after visiting the commanders in person, he might refine the strategy. For all we know, that could mean 2-3 brigades a month instead of 1-2. If the commanders point to some areas where the withdrawal can proceed faster, so be it. Or slower, so be it, but the Iraqis are asking for a timetable and as a sovereign nation they are within their rights to ask us (the guests) to leave. Only McCain is saying that he knows what's best for the Iraqis and that we will stay for a "very, very, very long time".

Please do not loose sight of the fact that the FLIP-FLOP concept is an old Republican line that they have been using for years.

It seems that a lot of you and the media are being sucked up in this Republican slur.

Obama is clarifying a lot of his ideas and if you do the research and read and investigate the facts it all adds up. He deals with each issue on its merits and acts accordingly. He weighs the pros and cons and looks at the BIG picture. For instance: The Supreme Court decision on gun control. I have heard words like APPLAUD, EMBRACE being used by the media concerning Barack's acceptance of the decision. He ACCEPTED the Supreme court's decision. That is only common sense. It is better to move forward to offer solutions than to bitch and moan over something that is caste in stone.

Since you are just getting to know Obama it will be easier to understand his mind-set.

I know that after dealing with the Bush administration for the last 8 years we have all stopped thinking and caring.

yeah i saw that townhall and it was rather exciting for a townhall meeting. and hes write if you pay attention to what he said before and earlier in the campaign then he hasn't flip flopped and the media should be doing a better job at vetting these charges against Obama and not just believing whatever the McCain campaign tells them.
