I can't say I blame Chancellor Merkel in turning down Senator Obama's request to make a speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

But it sure is quite a site - one step you're in the old communist East Berlin and the next step you're in West Berlin. Parts of the old Berlin Wall are still there. Just to the left of the Brandenburg Gate about 2 blocks down is the site of the bunker where the Third Reich ended. East Berlin still has all the buildings there from the communist era. You can really imagine what it was like for a city living behind the iron curtain.

You can go up to the roof of the old Reichstag Bldg and the complete history of Berlin is all there.

It's really something to visit this city. I swear Berlin has more tour buses than any other city in Europe. It's staggering. And despite its size (huge), it's really easy to get around.

The walking tours are quite memorable.

I read Gail Collins article in the Times this morning. Thank goodness someone got it right. Her comments were spot-on. Thankyou Gail!!!!

I have been closely listening and observing Barack and I see that he is a very intelligent man who deals closely with all of the issues and has a practical approach to them.

He will be so good for the country and will help us to understand nuance, delve into the issues and have a more positive outlook.

The past 8 years, I think has shut us down. We need to think AGAIN!

He's been on thin ice for so long, even with the AA community. I think, he has, once, and for all, broke through it.

His son's overly stern, public rebuke of Jackson, however, was very very wrong.

Finally, a politician that knows a little something about compromise. That's what's been missing over the last 20 years or so.

I don't agree with every stance Sen Obama has taken. But I admire his willingness to compromise and realize that, Americans want results.

We as citizens must realize that we cant have a society that excludes dissent and opinions that my not be the same as ours. That's what makes this country so great. Most Americans, like myself ralize that there are good and bad policies from both dems and reps alike. But the key is to understand that we can have the best of both if we come together. For example, the energy issue. Both sides are right. We need to produce more oil in the near future to combat our dependence on foreign oil. Long term we should try to find alternative sources to supply our country with the energy we need.

We need more politicians like McCain and Obama, that realize we can have a more productive government if politicians would look at all sides instead of selling out to party ideology. Our country and the people of this great country deserves better.

I too appreciate the insight of Gail Collins. Obama confounds political analyst (like Chris Matthews) because the pundits are used to thinking the same way Tip O'Neil thought, or Ronald Reagan thought. Sometimes it's not about moving toward the center. It's not about flip flopping. It's about evaluating each issue as it presents itself. It is about weighing the risks and benefits and making good judgement. I believe the pundits should take a little time to reflect on how Obama thinks to better understand the man who will be the next POTUS.

I find it interesting that the right is so focused on *another distraction*.

Are you people paying attention to the Iran missile test yesterday? What about FISA? Oh, that's right... your candidate decided not to show for that one.

Obama is really starting to show that he is competent and qualified to act as the President of the United States. But McCain's words *and* actions are showing that his time is past.

If this is the best O'Reilly can do, so be it.
