Even if he doesn't mention Obama by name, he could have steered his comments away from himself, as Governor of Arkansas, towards the key planks of Obama's message, namely change and Washington-malaise.

The fact that he didn't speaks volumes about why Obama must not select Hillary as his running mate. Bill will always be the "background President" to Obama's "actual President".

Obama's rise is doubly impressive in that he had to compete against BOTH Clintons and ONE McCain.

You know what I liked best about President Bush the 1st when he left office in '92? When he left, he was done. Same with Ford and Reagan. For some reason, Democratic presidents need to mug for the cameras and be the center of some kind of self proclaimed "Great Cause" once their presidency is over. Writing a book and going to some funerals doesn't seem to be good enough for them. They (Carter, Clinton) look ridiculous trying to continue to look important.

ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., spoke out against President Bush this morning attacking his administration for its failure to counter global warming emissions. ‘They just didn't believe in it or they didn't believe that they should do anything about it, since China is not doing anything about it and since India is not willing to do the same thing, so why should we do the same thing?" Schwarzenegger said.

"We don't wait for other countries to do the same thing. That's what makes America number one. And I think we have a good opportunity to do the same thing, also, with fighting global warming," he said.

The Bush administration has decided not to take any new steps to regulate greenhouse gas emissions before the president leaves office, despite pressure from the Supreme Court and broad accord among senior federal officials that new regulation is appropriate now.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced that it will seek months of further public comment on the threat posed by global warming to human health and welfare -- a matter that federal climate experts and international scientists have repeatedly said should be urgently addressed.

The Supreme Court, in a decision 15 months ago that startled the government, ordered the EPA to decide whether human health and welfare are being harmed by greenhouse gas pollution from cars, power plants and other sources, or to provide a good explanation for not doing so. But the administration has opted to postpone action ignoring the Supreme Court ruling.

No public or Congressional outrage. No Congressional hearings. Not a word about it from either candidate. Largely ignored by mainstream media. Another example of the Bush administration, in flagrant violation of the law getting a free pass.

What else should we expect from an administration that has no respect for the rule of law or the value of life? What else can we expect from a Congress that has immunized the President from prosecution? What else can we expect from a media obsessed with “gotcha” stories?

There are no short term solutions. Obama has said as much as well. Oil refinery modernization will take time. Big Oil hasn't done it in order to keep their profits off the charts, and would have to be pushed to it by an act of Congress, if thats at all possible. Your suggestion equals tons, and tons of time.

We are in trouble because of the lack of prudence President Carter called us to, and was rejected in the 70's. We are suffering the consequences of our intemperate actions.

Our highways look like no other in this world, with our 30 gallon tanks spewing carbons into the air. My silvergray 'Explorer', (I needed the extra space for my business), sits until I absolutely have to go out in order to conduct business. I'm doing a lot more over the phone, the internet, through the mail, and shipping.

I'm older, am walking more, and needed to anyway.

Patience, now, and adaptation is what we have allowed ourselves to be forced to pull from our better selves.

Here's a sincere tip for investors. Put your money in bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, and tennis shoes.

You are one of the few posters that I look for on a daily basis. Good, common sense posts with an understanding of the facts. On this issue, I respectfully disagree.

While you are correct in saying that this country has ignored the energy crisis for almost 40 years it does not explain the price of oil today.

The U.S. has an adequate supply of oil on hand. The problem is our refineries are NOT operating at full capacity. Additionally, oil companies have CLOSED some refineries. Why? If the can manage to keep supply at current levels, they can keep prices at these levels also.

The U.S. is EXPORTING oil at record levels. That’s right, domestic oil companies are shipping refined oil overseas. Huge profits, why not. Why hasn’t the U.S. Congress imposed a moratorium on oil exports? Answer: Too any oil men in Congress and the administration. Remember, the Bush family made their money in oil.

Finally, oil is being traded as a commodity, like a stock. It is unregulated. As such, stock traders and hedge funds can buy oil futures and trade them with the intent of making a profit. Speculators have artificially raised the price of crude; some say by as much as $30 a barrel. By the way, crude became deregulated when Phil Gramm’s wife, Mary, was in charge of the CTFC, a futures regulatory commission. Funny coincidence.

So, we can’t blame everything on the American public insatiable appetite for oil. A whole lot has to do with big business and deregulation which makes it easier for big business to increase profits at the expense of every American.

I have and probably always will respect and honor former President Clinton, despite the fact that I lost trust in him at one time. You have to give him credit in the is a brilliant potitician, and to the overall issue of politics, he is one of the most straight-from-the-hip shooters out there. But I think he's about a decade or two removed from truly understanding what's actually going on for the daily ins and outs of the average American.

State sovernighty rights is one thing, but this nation is facing the worse recesion we'e ever been in for those of us ages 21-35, and we are looking for national responses and relief.

No hard feelings, but right now I could care less how certain states operate because it is our entire ntion that needs an overhaul! I'm sure what Bill had to say was indeed important to some of those in aendee, but we've got a presidential election going on, and Bill needs to start doing a better job of supporting his Party's candidate.

Obama has to have HRC's supporters to put him over the top. So far, he has failed to gain the majority of the women and as long as he puts his wife out to campaign hoping to gain our support, he will fail. I don't like Obama, as he is a wannabee. We have lived eight years under an on the job training exercise and look where we are today..... BAD situation. Do we really want more of the same? That is what we will get if Obama gets into office. More on the job training.

As for his flip flopping, he has given that term a new deminision. And in doing the flip flopping it just muddys the waters. Noone knows where he has been nor do we know where he is going. We can guess. NOT.

With HRC, we knew her past, her present and what she saw for the future.

I too, want what is best for our nation. After Hillary dropped out, I have been working to support any and all dems for congress EXCEPT Claire McCaskill. And my message to 'Claire'... you said you don't care what your supporters want/think, and that is that. WE don't care what YOU want other than it is VERY obvious you are not representing us, the supporters, but promoting yourself for your own gain. I will work hard to get her out of office as I worked to put her in office. She is an embarrassment to the ones who 'brung her'.

The polls are just that.... polls. I really wonder how anyone can use the St. Louis polls to judge how MO is going, red or blue. This state is sooooo diverse, that one area cannot give a clear picture of how the state will vote. St Louis vs Springfield vs Kansas City. Each area is so different Springfield has traditionally voted Republican, St. Louis Democrat, and Kansas City is a mix. I don't see the AA's as making much of a difference in the state. Besides, where were they in two thousand and two thousand four? Talk about racist..... voting for a black because he is black. Won't happen. When they decide to turn out for the person/candidate then and only then can they be taken seriously.

I want checks and balances in the government. Let that be a republican president with the democrats controlling, with voting control of the Congress, and this nation will move forward, perhaps slowly, but in a strong, reasonable maner. NO MORE one party rule.

The dems don't have any better track record of self discpline than the republicans have. Don't make the same mistake the republicans did and go straight one party ticket. The past seven plus years prove that method is a disaster.
