Now tht I think about it, when McCain has followed good judgment, good things have happened and when he's followed bad judgment (S&L abomination, 1990s deregulation of telecoms and financial industry, Iraq all quickly come to mind), bad things have happened. Obama voted against going in based on the data given to congress...that turned out to be in hindsight the right choice. We are not more secure because of our involvement in Iraq. We've spent almost a Trillion dollars there with nothing but thousands of troops dead, and much much more in innocent civilians dead in Iraq (which most americans overlook).

An Afghan war czar? Another czar? What is it with these Republicans and their love for Russian royalty?

The bottom line is Obama said more than 16 months ago we needed to pull out of Iraq and reinforce the effort in Afghanistan. Today, McCain has adopted half of Obama's broad outline.

McCain hasn't yet accepted the other half of Obama's broad outline - the pulling forces out of Iraq part. But its coming, even if its instigated by the Bush Administration claiming "victory" after being told to leave by the Iraqi government.

For now, McCain wants all the troops in Iraq, and all the troops in Afghanistan. Hey, he does have a vision for the future - a new capability for military forces to be in two places simultaneously. But unless you accept that science fiction possibility, his words makes about as much quantitative sense as his promises to balance the federal budget in four years.
