This just in from the McCain campaign, thanks to feedback from our fellow citizens on desirable destinations for the Senator’s upcoming global fact-finding trip: John McCain to add stops in Constantinople and Alsace Lorraine to his previously announced tour of Czechoslovakia, Rhodesia, the Ottaman Empire, and the Countship of Flanders. The Senator also commented that “as a former Navy man, I am doing everything in my power to arrange a visit with the leadership of Atlantis.” In related news today, McCain surrogate Joe Lieberman attacked Obama for not having not visited Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey.

With likely voters, the race is essentially tied. Obama should be winning by double digits, but yet McCain, with all his faults, is hanging in there. People like Barack's personal story, the fact that he's a minority, and that fact that he's young. But when they start looking what he's actually accomplished (nothing) and where he's positioned politically (extreme far left liberal activist), those things turn voters off. America is slightly right of center politically. McCain is there, Obama is not.

John McCain has been on several foreign trips and his poll numbers haven't moved much. What makes you think the Obama trips will be any different?

Obama going abroad is a good thing. What he has been doing since the primaries is to make himself less of a target and going to Europe and the Middle East will help him in the "Commander-in-Chief category. As far as not being here to talk about the economy. The economy will only get worse and there is lots of time to talk about it.

Special credit goes to Chris Matthews last night for holding racist Pat Buchanan's feet to the fire. Buchanan should never be called an analyst as he is simply a political hack. Pat calling the day a victory for McCain because MeCain said he knows how to win wars is simply political garbage. Chris saw it and called him on it.

Check it out. It's not an education issue. DEMENTIA.

Chuck Todd is right on about Indiana being "damn close". Naturally I think Obama will win in Indiana. It could be the Flordia of 2008. I hope not. But it will be close. Obama's lead of 6 to 9 points is about right. Michigan and Penn are must win states for Obama and they are in his column.

Expect more gaffes from McOld. The debate which focuses on the economy will be a clear win for Obama.
The media will spin a tie on the foreign policy/war debate, but the issue will be depth of insight.

Is it bad form to portray Sen. McCain as a doddering fool? (I purposely didn't say "old" for a reason.)

From the Czechoslovakia gaffe to the misunderstanding of historical tensions among subsects of Sunni and Shi'a Islam, McCain has been dropping the ball right and left on well-known worldwide issues. Now, back in 2000, President Bush had the same problem (though he knew enough to correct McCain on Czechoslovakia then); and people have since portrayed Bush as a doddering idiot. Yet, if someone seeks to be the leader of the free world, should mistakes on basic world issues be fair game? If not, why not?

Seventy-two percent say McCain knows enough about world affairs. That number can only go down as the media confronts the awkward possibility that, despite being a multi-term senator, McCain might not know very much at all.

That shift is coming. The media has been cautious to date. But all these gaffes will keep building, until the pressure on the media to label what they're continually seeing as "ignorance" becomes too great.

We're already hearing the canaries on this. Jim Kramer, a stock market analyst as opposed to a political commentator, seemingly feels less compelled to tread lightly. After hearing McCain talk about Social Security, he was caught on the air asking if the senator knows anything.

Obviously Social Security isn't foreign policy and world affairs, but his gaffes and flip-flops in these areas have been no less awkward.

At some point, if this continues the media as a whole will feel compelled to question whether McCain isn't in over his head.

I'm glad that you stated the fact that Democrats usually always trail in the white vote and haven't won it since LBJ. Not even Bubba won the white vote. Then Contessa made the obvious pivot to patriotism. Once again you were able to debunk that because of the 3 choices people were given and the fact that because of Sen. McCain's military service, he gets a boost.

I see that today will probably be a continuation of "Why can't Obama close the racial gulf?" but hopefully people will have at least watched your analysis and learned something. I always knew that with Obama winning the nomination, we will know where people REALLY stand on progressive or conservative issues/policies now what we have an individual who does not 'fit the mold' running. Over the past few weeks, I have seen Dan Rather (on MSNBC Morning Joe) and Ted Koppel (on ABC This Week) sounding like Republican operatives. Dan Rather was providing advice on how McCain can defeat Obama. On ABC, Ted Koppel gave the impression that staying in Iraq is a sign of strength. On CNN, Bill Bennet was more concillatory to Obama regarding the New Yorker cartoon than James Carville.

In addition, I have spent almost 10 years as a legal resident of USA. I'm not really surprised to see Obama's comments get far more scrutinized than McCain's, even when their statements carry the same weight. My professional experience so far in USA has taught me to know that whenever you see an individual who does not 'fit the mold' in a position, that person is twice better than a counterpart who 'fits the mold'.

It's surprising that Obama is not getting much help from Democrats in the face of coordinated attack from the GOP. To the extent that McCain can even run an ad portraying himself as more 'Green' than Obama. GOPers like Pat Buchanan and Tucker Carlson have basically stated that McCain does not have any issues to run on except to attack Obama.

Is that how a great country like USA will pick its leader who will also be the leader of the free world? One whose only platform is to attack an opponent and not offer any solutions to problems facing real people?

Obama will lose if the issue of adequate quantity and quality of voting machines isn't raised and brought out into the open NOW, so that we can ensure a fair election, where black districts and districts favoring young college aged voters, are given an adequate number of working voting machines. I wouldn't be surprised if alla Rove, black districts will get 1 voting machine per 100,000 residents, and that machine breaks down after every other voter, while a white district with 1000 residents gets 100 machines that "work", i.e, always producing a "vote" for McCain.

I wonder what would happen to the numbers if the economy starts recovering. Would Obama's lead evaporate if the country starting feeling better about things? Would we then focus on Iraq and foreign policy exclusively?

If anything starts driving the price of oil down -- whether it's from OPEC or from our own govt cracking down on speculation -- I could easily see that allowing the economy to improve. If the economy does start recovering and the surge continues to "work", then what happens to Obama's lead?

McCain talks about foreign affairs knowledge.

The facts show McCain is terrible at it.
For 15 years, he's proven he doesn't even know Czechoslovakia is no longer a country. Twice this week, he's made the same mistake.

A few months ago, McCain proved his lack of knowledge about the middle east when he repeatedly confused Shiite and Sunni. Even after McCain was corrected, he went back to making the same mistake.

Earlier this month, McCain said things are going well in Afghanistan and we don't need to send more troops there. After years of repeating this, yesterday McCain said more troops are needed in Afghanistan and that Afghanistan is the military front on terror (Something Obama has been arguing for since before the Iraq war started.)

You guys should really change your comment system over to a new system like Huffington Post or others, where you can have a more instant posting system. Or at least turn off the approval system... Sorry, way to may "I can't remeber what my vote was". "I didn't say that' when there are volumes of video that proves he did. His constant flip-flops either for poitical reasons or he can't remeber what his position was.

Does this not bother anyone else but me. He either has a problem with integrity, memory or both.

The competency of the President should be a major concern for all voters.

All Obama's calls about the war have been right. McCain is so proud of the surge, however, that only gave time to bin ladin(and other enemys)to reorganize, get stronger, and build up forces in Afganstin. Obama has been saying for months, and months that was the hot-spot that was the threat. Now McCain's only answer to that is, Obama should go their first, before he speaks (even though he's been on the money every time). Maybe if McCain & Bush bothered to go to Iraq before the war, they would have made the right call. I still fail to see how McCain's POW status makes him an expert (not saying he wasn't a hero), it kind of a kin to being a jail house lawyer. Obama's judgement has been right on, why the American people think McCSame would any better than McCBush is a total mystery. Wake up people please, don't let them use the fear card again, that hasn't worked out so well!

Some, maybe a lot of Americans are just plain "STUPID" when it comes to picking candidates for president and the media isn't helping much. If Obama couldn't keep Sunni and Shia separated he would be lambasted for weeks on end. Yes we get a few snipits on McScrewy for a couple of days and a few mentions on MSNBC for the Czechoslovakia comments, but by and large this guy has been getting by with some incredibly stupid comments and Americans still beleive this guy is better on Homeland Security and Foreign policy?

Calm down people.

Once the debates start, and McBush doesn't have his little gimp Leiberman whispering the answers in his ear, this thing will be OVER.

Everyone will see, on public television, just how out of touch and confused McBush really is. Obama will run circles around McBush, and McBush will get so mixed up and frustrated that he will blow his cork, and his hot temper that he is famous for, will come out for all to see.

IF the moderators do their job, and that is a BIG IF, they will call out McBush on all of his MANY flip flops on policy and McBush won;t even remember where he stands on the issues.

After the debates start BO's poll numbers will rise SIGNIFICANTLY.

The election will be a landslide blow out and Barack Obama will be our next President and the Leader of the Free World.

And McBush can hop on Cindy's private jet and fly home to one of his many luxurious homes, hopefully on that is far away in Czechoslovakia.

Yes it is ammusing to see the republicans - moving towards Obama's ideas, and following (trying to steal)
his suggestions because they even realize he has excellent judgement! McBush = joke !!!
