McCain defended this position again at a press conference after his town hall, but when asked specifically by a reporter from the Detroit News about comments he had made last month in support of a national emission standard that would overrule state standards, he seemed confused.

"I'll get back to you on that," McCain said. "It's a complicated issue. I'll have my folks get to you."

Again and again he makes statements to a group and then back off the statement the minute he leaves the town hall.

His now lame lines "We'll work it out" and "I'll get back to you" have become standard.

When the heck is the media going to hold the Senator's feet to the fire and hold hin accountable for what he says and does.

It seems that the journalisn values of Edward R. Morrow and Tim Russert are no longer in vogue.

Shame on the media for allowing this!

McCain doesn't know "straight" talk anymore than he knows about the economy or foreign affairs for THAT matter! He mis-speaks, stumbles or flip-flops every day and no one really knows WHAT he stands for anymore. He's not been a big disappointment to the GOP, he's also been a disappointment to Independents (who are flocking toward Obama on a daily basis). Go look at the "real" polls.....the state-by-state polls and watch those red states turn blue!

OK what was the purpose of this talk with the auto industry, what was he saying!!! because after reading the artical i don't know, he challenged the industry to solve some of its own problems first. the problem with the auto industry is that the big 3 did not make enough fuel effecient cars. plain and simple!! there in this mess because of there own greed!!! instead of 10 years ago changing the sizes of cars the they did nothen, so all i can say is that things will get worse before they get better!!! sorry to say!!!
also the cost of raw material is a real problem, maybe we(america) should invest in our steel, rubber, metal industries so that the raw materials are not coming from china!!!

Gee John It's all complicated, but then again Bush found that out too, he wasted precious time on this learning curve and we all are suffering for his lack of interest, lack of curiosity and down right ignorance on many issues we are now faced with.
Looking towards the future means voting for the dems in november, giving the repubs a chance to catch up is not the way to go for our country.

What McCain should be saying or doing is talking about how there should be government/private sector research on how to make better cheaper fuel cells, better materials that are just as safe as steel and ways to have all the research and vehicle construction done here in the U.S. There was a PBS show called the Car of the Future which has some of these items discussed in it. I wish the candidates would do that more -- watch and read more science related items that come from scientist.

McCain yesterday in KC stated he did not know if Obama was a "socialist". He also stated at his town hall meeting that the gas tax holiday would save the consumers miilions and that the savings could be offset by the pork barrel and ear marks savings out of the transportation fund. I would like to know if he can GURANTEE the savings and that the gas retailers will not offset the gas savings with higher prices. Further, I would like to know what programs in the transportation fund are unnecessary( I knew of the Republicaqn bridge to nowhere) and I would like to know if after removing those progams( and if he can) will there be enough funds to repair our bridges and roads. Until McCain can give these specifics all this is Political Pander.

I wonder if he would get more votes if he went to Sedona, Arizona and sent the folks in Michigan an email. In the primaries he told the workers of Michigan that they would never get their high paying jobs back. He wasn't flexible in his thinking to realize there are other ways to earn a high paying job. Stuck in the 60's. Again, another example of that D word. Dementia.
