Friday of last week, congressional REPUBLICANS killed a bill that would have allowed the oil companies to begin drilling the 68 million+ acres already leased to them.

John McCain is on record saying the energy crisis is 30 years in the making and that what's needed is a long-term solution. Remember when he linked Obama to Carter? Yet he blames Obama.

McCain is currently proposing nearly $4 billion in tax breaks for the oil companies and Washington gimmicks that he admits will only provide ‘psychological relief’ to consumers. Inspired solution.

McCain wouldn't even qualify for McCain's health care proposal. It's a good thing that McCain has government sponsored health care or Cindy would have had to finance his cancer surgeries out of pocket.

The rest of us 'whiners' have to deal with fighting the Insurance companies in order to have our bills paid.

In Ohio if two people go to a hospital for the same illness heres what happens. One has the best health coverage from GM, the other has poor coverage he pays for himself. The first person may be admitted for surgery and a five day stay. The second person, with the same problem, gets out patient treatment and released hours later.
I have heard so many people with good healthcare from their employers say they are against a national healthcare plan, because it would be poor service. The very day they loose their job to overseas, they are all for national healthcare. What hypocrites and selfish people they are. It has to change!

If you are a 50-55 male with dependents decent insurance runs 1300-1500 a month...if you ain't paying this you aren't paying for your own insurance...you are a corporate or government welfare queen

Here's what national health care looks like: in the United Kingdom, 750,000 people are on waiting lists for 'elective' surgery, (heart bypass). The government has started a campaign to convince people with type two diabetes that they do not need to test their blood sugar daily-"it just causes anxiety"-because the government sees testing supplies as an unneccessary expense. People are twelve times more likely to die of cancer, because the treatments we take for granted are not as readily available. Is our treatment expensive? Yes! If the government got out of the business of telling insurance companies what to cover, insurance would be more affordable in many states. Here is NJ, health insurance is mandated to cover infertility treatments, birth control, viagra, etc. If you don't need that coverage, too bad, you must pay for it. As usual, when the government gets involved, we all pay, and get back less in return. Keep the government out of healthcare.

I come from the position that single-payer is the way to go and that it should be sold to companies as a way of competing abroad.

However, understand that affordable does not mean unlimited health care. In the UK there are boards that decide which drugs the NHS can prescribe, with new drugs not being available until they cost less and have been proven. There are waiting lists for non-emergency surgery (hips, knees) and for consults with specialists. Doctors make life and death decisions in that they decide whether to treat patients based on quality of life factors. This means the doctors decide whether to pull the plug not the family. Mental heath is treated very poorly. However, there are plentiful family planning clinics (although you are not seen by a doctor but usually a specialized nurse) which do offer free contraceptives for both men and women (Viagra is not offered). Also, babies are usually delivered by a midwife, doctors are only present if there are difficulties. Health care is not uniform across the country with waiting lists for procedures longer in some regions. Dental is not covered except for extractions.

In other words you have to accept some form of rationing which has to be decided by someone (in the UK by the government and then by the physician).

If such a change is made then a plan covering the dislocation would have to be made as thousands of employees of insurance companies, office accountants in doctors offices and other clerical staff are let go. Also in the UK doctor training is paid for by the government so they are obligated to work in the NHS, over here a method of paying off training costs would have to be created.

BTW Did BO ever say how he would enforce his health plan mandates?

I feel our health care system is in need of any/all the help it can get. We are a family of 4(2 children,2 adults)We own our own small business and must purchase our own healthcare. We pay $1,600.00 a month...wow! Let anyone tell me," how can families continue to purchase good health care coverage at $1,600.00 a month and still think the system does not need help?"
Anyone? In todays world struggle to keep our homes afloat, our vehicals on the road, groceries in the fridge and topping it all off, we pray we can pay our healthcare premium monthly, because if one of us gets hurt or inflicted with something we'd surely be done without it. Yes...

it can be done if the tax loopholes are removed for the wealthy champ, there will even be a surplus if everyone (including the wealthy) pays their fair share, the "have not's" in this country subsidizing the "have's" needs to stop
