I think these polls are a bit misleading. I have yet to see a McCain sign or bumper sticker in my area but have seen Obama T-Shirts and bumper stickers - and this is a heavily conservative area.

so what are the other 16% saying? I really don't think MI is in play; but I am certainly not an expert. The demographics and current economy just doesn't support a 3rd Bush term.

PS. Bratty (appropriate, much?) - the half vote is just for the Dem Convention, they (and you) will get a whole vote to cast however you choose in the general. No one said 1/2 a person.

I was fortunate to obtain 2 tickets to see Obama at Kettering University in Flint, MI a couple weeks ago. The one ticket was for me, and the other, I invited a staunch republican friend. This friend was excited about seeing Obama because she wanted to hear what he had to say so she could make an informed voting choice. I think the message is clear and the republicans are going to pay a hefty price for the sins of the past 7-1/2 years. Obama for POTUS!!!

With all the time that the bomber has spent in Michigan, this has to be not sitting well.The working class that have seen there jobs shiped out, and bomber claims that they are not comming back,while Obama offers to restore there work force by creating jobs in the re-newable energy industry,bring back the auto jobs with new tech auto that there closed plants could by retro fitted,and jump start there economy,Given those choices it's clear that they would prefer someone that is at least going to try to help and support that person.

McCain's lack of interest, and ideas for the state, depressed for decades over it's loss of industrial job opportunities, and his penchant for so-called 'telling it like it is', every time he deigns to show up there, will send him lower in the polls through to November.

Michigan voters have been hurt worse than most other states by the current Bush administration's failed economic and foreign policies. If they vote for McCain under the illusion that this "maverick" is somehow different that George W. Bush, they deserve everything coming to them in the next four years. It's mind-boggling that it's even a tie in a state such as Michigan.

Don't fret about Michigan. We and Florida will get full voting privileges at the convention. The rules committee that outlined the sanctions have had their say and the Nominee can always allow those sanctions to be waived for the good of he party.

McCain was able to take Michigan from Bush in the mid-term. Despite the growing levels poverty and unemployment in the state, there are STILL many people there that "pull the Republican lever" (straight party ticket). If that poll were taken in Detroit solely, I think we'd see far different numbers, with Obamma way out in the lead. As we wear on toward Nov. I see Obamma's influence grow in Michigan as the cold season approaches with no energy cost relief in sight. Besides, McCain is out of touch e.g. Bob Dole.

im from michigan and i'll tell you DONT TRUST Detroit New-wxyz poll. They are most likely including more of the suburbs rather then taking into accout the percentage that detroit makes up in the final tally in michigan especially now that more people are moving to the downtown area from the suburbs, very skewed poll. and conservate media is going to be skewed

I dont think you have seen or heard the local issues here that have to be draging down Obama. Detroits Mayor and city counsels scandles a goveinor who just pushed through the largest tax increase in Michigan history and the Michigan Democratic Party getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar (power point on a Uniopn web site thatwasnt suppose to exisist) trying to push through a constitutional admendment aimed at insuring Democratic sucess in future elections here. So I dont know if michigan is in play or not but the DNC shouldnt take it for granted.

This one is a no brainer for Michigan. If you like your current economic conditions, joblessness and lack of opportunity to improve your lives - then McCain's your man.

Personally, I'd prefer to see someone that offered some kind of hope (and that ain't McCain!)
