So my question is this to the McWar Camp and the GOP; are we the United States occupying Iraq? They do not want us there and the McWar and the GOP are not listening to the Iraqi people and there leaders. So what are the reasons for our occupation in Iraq’ according to McWar and the GOP? I never thought the US would take this approach for expansion of democracy, political gain and for oil. It will be a sad day in America if we continue to force our values and ideology on this country.

The mind of a lawyer and the tact of a diplomat. What I have noticed in the TV footage is that Obama and Petraeus work well together. Obama's management style is to listen and Petraeus will say what is on his mind...without the fear of being bullied by someone like Bush or McCain. The next two days will be huge for Obama..The Israeli/Palestinian Issue tomorrrow and the Tower speech in Germany on Thursday.

Nice to see Obama coming around on some of this Iraq stuff. I'm also sure that he is completely responsible for the positive trends there.

Good to see all the subtle backtracking, too. "Responsible withdrawal" means no timetables and reflects the Bush administration position. That is, we will remove our troops as the Iraquis assume more responsibility for themselves. Makes sense to me. I think he's very sincere and admirable in his acceptance of the idea that we need to to stay until the job is finished and the Iraquis stand on their own.

Or we can go back to the early 70's and "Vietnam" them.

Yup, this guy really is the black Bill Clinton. Adopt, co-opt and triangulate. And glide on the breeze wherever it takes you.

I'm so proud of Senators Hagel, and Obama.

Both of their statements are good to hear; tonics for the mind, and spirit. Hagel is knowledgeable, level headed, and fair. I really like him.

I'm glad that Obama is speaking with consideration for Palestinians, as well as Israelis.

Senators Clinton, and McCain are completely partisan in their rhetoric favoring Israel, as though other races, and creeds are less than human. That is not right.

We will get further, and perhaps all the way to peace in the Middle East, when we decide to engage recognizing the fact that we are all 'The Children Of Adam'; (so I believe).

I’d for one like to thank Barack for what he’s doing overseas. I can’t remember the last time we had so many world leaders and citizens of other nations as anxious as they are now in hearing what one of our premier political figures has to say.

Not to mention when he speaks, he actually knows what he’s talking about and is able to construct constructive and articulate statements. I’ve grown accustomed over the past eight years of people domestically and abroad running from the presence and words of these ‘politicians’. Barack appears to be genuine in his ability to actually want to hear the concerns of these individuals.

It will be amazing or should I say less so, the criticism he will face for being liked by those other than left of center Americans or those disaffected by the last eight years. Who knew being liked around the world would be such a bad thing.

Obama is more electable and qualified that McCain.

Let's hope his I/P policy finds its way to "evenhanded," despite the fact that, as Dean discovered, the Israel Firsters will blow you away if you dare to utter the verboten "e-word." I certainly dont expect him to utter it, knowing that it is perennially the silly season when it comes to our govts'/media's behavior around the I/P issue. The hypocrisy is off the charts.

He said both sides need to look in the mirror. Then he gave an example of what each might see. The Palestinians, he said, need to deal with their internal conflict (we know that means form the govt the US and Israel will allow, ie, democracy is window dressing, Hamas may not win, despite the votes) and then he went on to Israel. Thing is, I cant recall what he said they would see, only that whatever he said, it didnt sound like anything ... which is why I cant recall it, I guess.

Anyone recall what Israel ought to see in the mirror, according to Obama?

I have to say that I am very surprised at Andrea Mitchell's apparent bias on this Obama trip. It is in the tone of her voice and the words she chooses. Granted, she prefers the fact that McCain is more of a peer to her, however, that doesn't mean it is ok to dismiss McCain's tripping over nouns or geographical locations on a regular basis, such as the border between Iraq and Pakistan - which is non-existant. Your deference is showing.
As for the Obama-rama - who created this? the Dept of Defense did all the planning and filming while in Afghanistan and Iraq - not the national media. So get over your little selves.
