Isn’t the fact that the leaders of Iraq have clearly expressed they want us to begin withdrawing troops the only condition on the ground that matters? What other condition trumps this fact? We have gotten rid of Al Qaeda (Who were not even there to begin with) and established a working government in Iraq. Iraq is now a sovereign nation and they have asked us to begin withdrawing troops. I say we honor that request as it is in our interests to do so. There is no reason for us to use American tax dollars and American lives for nation building at this point. We have a real and serious threat growing in Afghanistan that needs to be addressed. We can no longer hold Iraq’s hand as they slowly move toward political reconciliation. That is something they will have to work out. We do however need to look after the SAFTERY OF OUR OWN NATION which is being threatened by the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
