Mixing it up with people is what Obama needs to keep doing. If he continues to produce the huge iconic events with thousands of the entranced, he risks becoming a symbol rather than a person.

Who he is provides a head start for becoming a symbol rather than a complex capable plausible candidate.

Problem with being a symbol is that the opposition may be able to come up with a simple, likely nasty, but more effective characterization of the symbol and kill his candidacy.

I feel that there is a real risk of this and the risk is fed by those huge events.

I hope there's someone reading this who can either dismiss this fear or better outline what I'm trying to get at.

As if by design, First Read spins for the McCain camp. First by the title - Obama - Un-Paris Hilton Day: Deliberately keeping the McCampaign storyline running linking Obama with someone as shallow as Paris Hilton. Then hinting that they planned to be on the defense while the Senator is campigning in Missouri. Thank goodness most of us who read know that the brilliant staff of Obama's campaign also plans his events in advance.

Hey but kudos for advancing your bureau chief's talking points. It is nice not to hear or read 'arrogant' or 'presumptous' or 'cocky' or 'cock-sure' in reference to Senator Obama on MSNBC shows and in First Read.

How about this news guys? Instead of following George Ayles entertainment style news presentation to boost your ratings,and compete with Fox, just give us the facts.

What a glorius article. It gave me more joy than I can tell you. But these points stood out the most.

1. Obama serving in the rain. (I posted an article weeks ago about having the same experience with my religious leader). I wish we had visuals of our Obama wet, and working hard.

2. The sleek, supremely competent voter registration drive in Denver, and else where. Obama's multi tasking has been phenominal. I am so proud. My candidate, and his people are impressive to say the least.

3. Mike Murphy's assessment of the 'challenged' McCain campaign. All he can do is sit back, (as persona non grata), and cry. Good. He was the one that started the 'hubris' accusations last week.

To K Andrews, NY: Off-shore drilling will do nothing for at least 10 years. And who's to say that the oil obtained will stay here in the U.S. and not shipped overseas? How about if the oil companies begin drilling on some of the 68 million acres they are leasing but doing nothing to develop?
We have to become less dependent on oil and must find alternative energy sources.

New offshore drilling wouldn't produce any usable oil until somewhere around 2010, while putting the economy of my home state, Florida, in serious jeopardy from pollution. Scrambling for ways to use up even more oil while driving SUV's that get 12 miles to the gallon is not the answer, people.

Did anyone who's angry about $4.00/gallon gas notice the news today where Exxon set yet another record for quarterly profits by making 11.68 BILLION dollars? Anyone want to question that? There's your money, folks. And the so-called "reinvesting" the oil companies are doing has been figured at less than 10% of this windfall. Think about that for a while, and consider our feckless leader's energy policies.

For all of you "Drill Now" people, answer one question. Will the oil stay here in the US or put on the world market? The WORLD demand for oil is greater than the supply, therefore, you would need to increase the WORLD supply by 15%-20% at a minimum to lower the price. The Chinese alone will suck up what little increase there might be.

I would like to see ANWAR declared part of the Strategic Oil Reserve and left alone.
