This is one store that needs to go away ! They treat their employees like crap as it is. I can't go in this store without an employee saying how it's frowned upon if they do this or that. How WalMart doesn't listen to their ideas and questions and how they are a horrible employer. If I were Wal-Mart I wouldn't want to be unionized because maybe then it will held to some form of a standard to make for better work environments. I'd keep some of these other retailers around and get rid of Wal-Mart.

Off-shore drilling is another gimmick just like the tax holiday! In fact, the highway tax has to be raised in order to meet the demands of the highways and roads. How many times to people have to hear that drilling will not bring prices down because we won't get oil for 10 years? How many times do people need to hear that we already have areas to drill that are not being used? This is another gimmick pushed by mccain to get people off the right track while mccain does the bidding of the oil companies!

This is an outrage!

Can this really be good for America when a retailer as big as WalMart can threaten it's employees on how they should vote??? I don't think I'll be giving them my business anymore. If I were an employee there I would look into the legallities of this kind of tactics but obviously do so behind closed doors if I didn't want to lose my job. How terrible it is to have to work under these conditions. Obama has said nothing in his campaign speeches indicating he would sway employees to unionize.Did these same threats come up under Bill Clinton's campaign? Shame on WalMart for these threats/blackmail.

Isn't it interesting that on Iraq we have the one trick pony McCain saying surge surge surge. and on Energy policy we have McCain saying drill drill drill. Simplistic obsessive talking points meant to drown out rationale discourse. It is ridiculous that with the size of Iraq that the addition of 30K additional troops that the americans pacified the whole country. No surge troops ever were in Anbar. It is the paying of the Sunni's and theunilateral cease fire by Sadr that caused the lowering of violence. Where are the retired generals we can ask whether 30K troops could pacify the entire country? As for energy, it is also ridiculous to think that offshore drilling is the solution. Notwithstanding that no oil would enter the market for at least 10 years, lets remember its a global market and the oil companies will sell it on the market and not use it here exclusively. We should be asking how much of the oil from the Alaska pipeline goes to mainland USA. Lets have that discussion when we talk about offshore drilling and where the oil goes!

The reason why we may want to open the possibility for drilling wells and ultimately increasing the availability of oil on the world market might have something to do with the fact that oil consumption is growing and the available supply will dwindle causing prices to increase at an excellerated rate.

It may well be that nothing will be produced for 10 years but when it is it will be produced in a world economy that will be demanding more and more oil.

By the way, a high oil price encourages the development of alternate energy systems. Oil producers fear an inexpensive alternative to the use of oil and will do what they can to prohibit research. The most effective means available to them is to keep oil costs below the anticipated costs of alternate energy and that means an increase in teh amount of oil on the market (they pump more oil greater supply for a current demand).....But if there is no research or even threat of research then there is no motivation to keep the price down.....

Maybe you should read a little more and spend less time writing and posting in triplicate.

Unions are a scam. Granted years ago when people were slaving in 130 degree factories, working for almost nothing on 15 hour shifts, Unions were needed, but in this day and age they are nothing more than scam artists. My brother worked for Chrysler and has been laid off for 18 months and he STILL gets 80% of his pay, and he has another job in the mean time! This is rediculous, and the "union" is still collecting Union dues and whatnot from this NON-working Union member! They aren't needed these days and more times than not have their "Members" are inslanely overpaid to do their jobs. Here in St. Louis, If I understand correctly, when building the new stadium for the Cardinals the Brick Layers Union, required the brick layers to lay a mere 12 bricks an hour. After some research AN APPRENTICE brick layer can lay upwards of 25-35 bricks an hour, and a master can lay 60-75! AN APPRENTICE!!!! So why are we willing to pay these men (with tax dollars for the stadium) when they are working at a snails pace, and could have had it completed MONTHS sooner than it was?!?!?!? What a joke.

I love my Wal-Mart, they have great deals and great sales, but unionizing would mean much higher costs for the products that in this economy people can't afford to pay.

Those poor Wal-Mart employees. When my husband lost his job at Gulf Oil after the T.Boone Pickens takeover, he, and I worked a bunch of menial jobs for about 7 years. We drove school buses, sold Tupperware, worked in home health care, and at stores such as Wal-Mart- you name it. Working for a bunch of part time employers deliberately keeping their employees hours under 25 per week, in order to escape having to offer health care benefits is a social, and financial purgatory.

Bush, and McCain have proffered service employment jobs, (of the fast food kind, etc.,) as proof of rising employment over the course of this Administration. I find their lack of a fair assessment despicable.

I pray that folks will be blessed to escape such a plight, as we have, should Senator Obama win this election. I pray his plan for green jobs, and a new infrastructure will improve the quality of employment for menial workers.

Both FOX and CBS had articles today with this quote: "Obama wants to persuade price-weary consumers - read that as voters -to take the long view and not jump at a short-term fix" And you point out: "John McCain has found at least one issue where he enjoys something of an advantage over Barack Obama: offshore drilling for oil," the Detroit Free Press adds. "With gas prices way up this summer, polls in battleground states, including Michigan, have consistently found strong support for offshore drilling."

Where do they get this sh*t? EVERY credible scientific and trade (meaning big oil) group and our own energy department has estimated that even if we start drilling TODAY, not a single drop of oil will hit the market until 2017 and then it will be priced as the market dictates, based on demand. How can any thinking person contend that 2017 is a short-term fix?
It is outrageous for them to make such contentions that there is a short term fix to be found in drilling, especially given that independent analysis has found that our nation''s capacity to REFINE oil is the biggest obstacle facing the supply side of oil.
Everyone should be outraged that so-called news organizations like CBS and FOX (forget the Detroit free press) are insulting your intelligence by making such wildly inaccurate statements and injecting them into the political debate. The energy policies of this country will be in the hands of the next president and the American people should be armed with the truth when they decide who the next president should be.
The notion that quick fixes can be had and that if you are not proposing a quick fix or a gimmick that you will be hurt politically is ridiculous. Here's hoping that the American people are smarter than that but it appears as though CBS and FOX is betting that you are not. They are doing you a great disservice when they refuse to report the truth and continue to push propaganda.

Why isn't the fact that when Congress voted on making it mandatory that if they drilled for oil in Anwar the oil would have to stay in the US and be sold to Americans - and McCain voted AGAINST THIS. Against keeping the oil here so that the price to Americans would go down!! We don't have a gas shortage - have any of you waited in line for gas??? We just have greedy oil companies and the value of our dollar has gone down thanks to Bush and his spending. Do you really think that drilling off shore oil will mean your gas prices will come down? This oil will be shipped over seas and we will be charged the same as we are now. Also, why haven't the oil companies drilled on the hundreds of thousans acres - some under the sea - it now leases?? Can't you see - the Republicans know the Dems are against off shore drilling and they are using this to cloud the issue and try to win favor with the voters. Get Smart America and don't fall for it. Biased, of course it's easy for you to say for someone to get a new job. Did you forget that people are losing their jobs all over this country? And Wal-Mart. Sure, you love their "great deals", but that's at the expense of people who are scheduled part-time so they can't get medical insurance. They cheat people out of their overtime. Haven't you ever wondered why they have 30-40 checkout lanes but only 4-5 open at one time? Because they make their store managers to be low-staffed!
