McCain handlers had to be worried about the daily gaffes. Having such a limited and undisciplined candidate, I can fully understand why he's on a short leash now.

And a week into it, its working. We haven't seen a gaffe from McCain for days. We've seen some stupid, low road, demeaning stuff of the type that should never enter a presidential campaign - part of the continuing slide toward demeaning the office as well as the opponent - but we haven't seen a gaffe.

Wow, what a shoddy piece of "journalism" there.

He doesn't support offshore drilling. He said he'd accept a proposal with some limited drilling *IF* if was necessary to get major initiatives going for renewable and green energy. He said he'd accept it only in if it was necessary to break a road block in getting a significant overall package passed. He still doesn't agree with it, but is willing to compromise to get stuff done.

They don't pay enough attention to know better. The GOP has "feel good" and "sounds good" policies. They drape themselves in patriotism and the American flag. Ever notice Fox News is nothing but red, white, and blue in all their backgrounds, sets, etc?

I used to be a Republican. I grew up in a republican household. I never followed politics at all but the occasional news cast. This year when I started paying attention... I realized that the GOP were nothing but con artists and disingenuous liars. I've now changed registration to Democrat.

Mia - think of it this way. With McCain now looking competitive in the polls, it will force the media to pay a little more attention to him.

Clearly he's not the guy we and the media thought he was. I doubt he will stand up the scrutiny.

We may actually see a cycle in which the frontrunner gets all the attention, people don't like what they see, and then the other guy takes the lead. If so, the key will be not being the leader in mid October. Its kind of like the game in which kids do the hand over hand thing up the baseball bat.

He also claimed to have "fought for the recognition of Martin Luther King day in his state." He NEVER fought for it, in fact he voted AGAINST it 3 times! He only voted for it after NFL pulled the Super Bowl from Phoenix! Another LIE - Obama NEVER retracted his comments. Not Rich Yet, the bottom line is that if you make more you should pay more. It's the only fair application of a tax bracket. Now I have never agreed with an escalated scale like we have now, but a flat percentage that everyone has to pay would ensure fairness in the tax paying landscape. That being said, there is no way a guy making 2 or 3 million a year should be paying the same dollar amount as someone who makes 25k or less. They may as well not be paying taxes at all.

I don't know why McCain thinks town hall meetings are his greatest venue. He's had some pretty unflattering experiences at them. I just saw a video over the weekend of him completely blanking out after being asked a relatively simple 2 part question. Quite the senior moment.

Also, the New Yorker article on the MSNBC home page is a must read. It makes 2 great points that I completely agree with. Alot of idiots out there think increased domestic drilling is going to solve high gas prices and it won't. And whatever standards and ethics McCain had in the truth department are completely gone.

On Oil drilling - The gang of ten (5 repubs, 5 dems) senators worked for weeks together to come up with an energy plan, that covers all aspects of energy needs, and supplies.
