One of the Republicans own has left the titanic and only the Low Information Voters remain on deck. As evidenced by the rhetoric being shared today by so many McCainiacs. (My new term for dyed in the wool Repubs who will follow right on over the edge).

T. Boone Pickens = incredible wealth = Can't Drill Our Way Out of this = Alternative solutions.

Our oil reserve will be a joke and obsolete in 10 years; but it makes me laugh at the "defend it at all costs" approach by Repubs. I liken it to the drawer full of Chuck E. Cheese coins in my son's drawer. He's 14 and a half and if I mentioned taking him to Chuck E. Cheese to 'spend' them, he would be mortified. Mostly because he held them long past their useful life.

I say we drain the oil supply as quickly as possible; because until it is gone, about half of the electorate can't even FATHOM alternatives, they just want to be sitting on the stock pile. I don't believe for a minute that 'he who holds the oil holds the power'; but apparently the right wing seems convinced. From my vantage point, 'he who holds the politicians, holds the power'. That's been oil and the repubs for 8 long years. I want out of this desert. Sooner rather than later would be great for me.

Hopefully, MSNBC can find some objectivity this week and report accurrately on these two candidates. McCain doesn't have ANY new ideas, he is only engaged in character assination and with the help of MSNBC has been somewhat successful.

Hopefully the people will see thru this by November and make the only reasonable choice. VOTE FOR THE SMART ONE - OBAMA!!!

Who cares where the oil comes from? Its all sold to the world market at world market prices! Even if we produced 100% of our own oil we would still be paying the world market price, which we have almost no control over from the supply side as long as the nation of Saudi Arabia exists.

I saw the speech. It was a great speech—full of information and good points—the kind of speech a thinking and intelligent person would give.

And it seemed doable, I really feel that we Americans are strong and powerful.

I just came back from vacation and saw folks already dealing with the gas crises. I saw many Priuses, folks walking, riding bikes to the store and mall. All looking determined and ready to adjust. Folks are learning to top off their tanks to get better mileage, etc.

Agree with some of McCain's comments about our dependence on oil and the need to shake ourselves of this addiction but then come back and ask what McCain has tried to do about it over the last 30 years as a member of the Senate. Why all of a sudden does McCain call this a crises and thinks he has the answwers when he has had none for the last 30 years. Hitting hard on those donations to the Mccain campaign by big oil is another way of getting the voter's attention.

T. Boone Pickens is 100% for drilling. You need to familiarize yourself with his whole plan, not just the commercial where he says "We can't drill ourselves out of this."

He says we need all domestic resources exploited to reduce dependency on foreign sources. He supports drilling offshore, he supports drilling in ANWR, he supports a role for nuclear power. He supports using abundant natural gas (requires drilling)resources and environmentally acceptable uses of vast coal reserves. He supports use of the vast central U.S. wind corridor.

T. Boone Pickens also wants to make money. He'll own a lot of windmills. He is market oriented and sees an opportunity combined with a desire to use our own energy resources.

Senator Susan Collins of Maine would be happy to corroborate this. He said it to her in a recent senate hearing. Saw it on C-Span. Not that hard to find.

Both candidates should embrace Pickens' plan. But all of it, not just a sound bite that appeals to Clara from Kansas City.

New drilling will not drop gas prices. Most oil companies will tell you that a majority of the areas inspected for oil in the gulf have turned up dry. Not worth their time drilling. Additional oil does little good unless you also build new refineries that will cost millions and that will be funded through high gas prices at the pump. Current refineries are functioning at full capacity.

New drilling although perhaps forstalling an eventual lack of oil due to competition wit hChina and limited supplies world-wide, etc. is a temporary fix. But as to any immeidate relief or as a long term solution it is a political gimmick. Instead of listening to politicans do some research. The only viable solution is some sacrafice (although it will hurt) from the Amercian people and an immediate and serious change to discover viable alternate sources of energy.

I'm also thinking that earth moving machines (highway construction etc.) probably won't be running on electric or wind power anytime soon. I think it takes great big diesel powered trucks to haul those massive wind turbines to their locations. Will you make an exception for that?

If you think increased domestic production will lower, your price at the pump, check out Alberta, Can.,the largest supplier of U.S. oil. The price at the pump in Calgary was $1.25 to $1.30 per liter last week when I was there. That equates to $5.30 per gallon!! Higher than we pay. Bottom line is that off shore drilling may help the bottom line of the oil companies, but why would anyone think that they would all of a sudden to an about face and lower the price to the consumer..It won't happen...reducing our use of oil is the only sure way to reduce our price.....
