The Republican Party is famous for keeping members loyal. But in Oregon, at least, that no longer seems to be the case. First Oregon GOP Sen. Gordon Smith promoted his ties to Barack Obama in ads. Now a Republican candidate for the House is endorsing the Democratic candidate. The Politico reports:
A guy gets 70% of the Republican primary vote, and how does he repay his party? By endorsing Barack Obama for president and the Democratic challenger to an incumbent Republican for Senate. At least that's how Joel Haugen, challenging Oregon Rep. David Wu, decided to thank his party's leadership for their support.
Haugen, a businessman and Army veteran, is running an uphill campaign in a district Wu has held onto against good Republican challengers. So instead of embracing fellow Republicans in a state that's moving increasingly left, Haugen is falling in line with Obama, and he's is listed on State House Speaker Jeff Merkley's website as a backer; Merkley is the Democratic nominee against Senator Gordon Smith.
The endorsements aren't something Haugen is hiding. "We certainly understand why people are so surprised to see" Haugen backing Obama, the campaign writes on its website, citing the Democrat's positions on foreign policy and the economy over John McCain's.
But Haugen's is a position that causes the Oregon Republican Party some heartburn. The state party is continuing to offer tacit support for Haugen's candidacy (though they're not returning his phone calls) while local party officials have shut him out of some events, PolitickerOR reported over the weekend.

Obama's upbeat tone hasn't had much of a positive effect on the tone of 90% of his supporters here, who believe all Republicans to be sub-human.

He's a politician, he raises money from big influential groups in large amounts via bundlers, he makes speeches, he changes positions for votes, he distorts his own record, he has suspect associations, he has flaws and weaknesses, he is highly partisan, he acts in certain ways to get votes and as a Democrat uses the tried and true method of accusing opponents of methods he himself employs.

He's a more interesting and polished John Kerry, without the military experienced. He co-opts, triangulates and bends with the political winds.

Mc Cain criticized him for "looking too Presidential" and there-fore pre-sumptuous, especially in Germany.
And for wanting other countries to "like us".

Obama is applying to be President, as with ANY job, wouldn't one WANT to LOOK the part of the job they are applying for !?!

Tim Pawlenty is personally liked throughout Minnesota however many of us in Minnesota would not see him ready for the position of vice-president. Governor Pawlenty has had a "no new taxes" pledge that has resulted in raising "fees" throughout state and local government that have caused lots of hardship; he,as well as the federal government)has been resistent to putting in the necessary funding for infrastructure to avoid tragedies like bridges falling down; and he has picked some very, very unpopular people in his administration (former head of Education and the current Lt. Governor - who also had been the head of Transportation at the time of the bridge collapse). There are actually Republicans that wouldn't vote for a McCain/Pawlenty ticket to avoid having the current Lt. Governor as Governer! As a life-long democrate I agree with McCain that Tim Pawlenty has a bright future ahead of him in the Republican party but I cringe at the thought of him being in a position so close to the presidency any time soon!

John McCain has received two million dollars from the oil industry, and now he want to give them a four Billion dollars tax break, when they are raking- in record profits on the shoulders of America. So, John McCain said, “Our dangerous dependence on foreign oil has been thirty years in the making, and was caused by the failure of politicians in Washington to think long-term about the future of the country.” What John McCain neglected to mention was that during those thirty years, he was in Washington for twenty-six of them. And in all that time, he did little to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Not to mention, that out of the last twenty eight years, twenty of those years, our nation energy policies were manipulated by an oil man in the Whitehouse representing his party interest (George Sr.12 years. George Jr.8 years) that have all but destroyed our Country.
Here is some straight talk. When John McCain was running in the Republican primary he never mention or addressed anything about this nation energy problems. After the primary, he saw that Barack Obama energy position along with his other ideas was getting footage so he flip-flopped, and quickly turned into Mitt Romney. The Straight Talk express at its best. Although Jack Cafferty is one of my favorite reporters in the media today, they are wrong! So here my question to you: Why do Jack Cafferty and Politico David Paul Kuhn and Kenneth along with countless others in the news media find it so amusing to report on Barack Obama supposedly flip-flopping and gaffes, when John McCain have twisted on more issues to have started a tornado with his silly shenanigans, then any Politician in recent history beside Mitt Romney, not to mention his long list of gaffes. Yet, they fail to give equal negative coverage. Can I be sensing media bias? After all, Barack Obama has received 72% negative coverage, when they have reported on him. WHY? America has to stop acting like they don't know the difference between right and wrong. Thus, John McCain campaign is represented by lies instead of real ideas and he has a serious character issues to say the least!
Finally, there are those who say that John McCain’s new ad depicts Barack Obama as trying to present himself as a messiah, well I beg to differ. No...repubs see the world as have and have nots...and it is better for them to be the haves. Just look at their policies for the past 8 years and the slow stranglation of the middle class and eroding economy.

While I am sure there are some in the party that genuinely want to do good, they are not the ones in power and they will never be the ones in power as long as the repub party continues its s.o.p.
