Its definitely McCain's fault, hes the one that started with the britney spears ad. and is in the back and forth with paris hilton. hes also the one who ran that ridiculous ad saying obama is to blame for gas prices...come on.

What does a reporter expect to hear. That either candidate would take the blame for the tone of the campaigns. Some times you guys in the media ask the stupidest questions. Why don't you just acknowledge and confront McCain for setting the negative tone as you already know is true and move on from there. And remember that Obama is the front runner. Neither McCain nor the media have any say as to what type of debate forum Obama wishes to particpate in. And as a front runner Obama certainly might not want to particpate in "joint" town hall meetings with McCain who would use them to tell stupid jokes and try and use his humor to mock Obama. Obama understands that this election is much more important and serious then listening to McCain foam a tthe mouth with his weird and silly humor and innuendos.

McCain should thank Obama for not bringing larger crowds to him via town halls. If any measurable quantity of people had been present for anything he had to say, there may actually be press coverage for Mr. Gaffe a Day. As it is, the press didn't really spin against McCain until he crashed the party at Sturgis and offered his wife up for Ms. Buffalo Dung.

He's had a lot of 'lucky breaks' do to his diminished turn out. Be careful what you wish for mr. McLooney, you just might get it. Oh wait, that's right. You don't dictate Senator Obama's schedule. That must really tick you off that you thought you could 'bully' him into letting you lead the campaign trail. I am proud of my candidate for not granting you credence. You haven't earned it.

I like how Obama mentioned that each campaign has control over its message and has responsibility for what is said. IMO, Obama has shown much greater control over his team's message, keeping it more positive and more focused on the issues.

McCain lies again above, when he blames Obama's camp for the town hall meetings not taking place; he fails to mention that Obama made a counter-offer, and the negotiations ended there. Apparently, if you don't play McCain's way, you don't play at all (kind of reminds me of the current administration's attitude!). How about some compromise?

I think McCain needed to do something to get the media to pay any attention to him at all -- so he started running what I think were 'funny' , albeit negative, ads. The ads were supposed to indicate that he sees Obama as a celebrity and not as qualified as McCain to be president. It worked. The media finally started giving McCain some attention. The amount of money being spent by Obama on TV ads here in south Florida disgusts me. I would have much preferred to have Obama and McCain doing the ten town hall meetings (and I think Obama would have won, but it would have given McCain free coverage, but since Obama is the one who reneged on the deal to do public financing.....) and Obama and McCain could have saved millions of dollars on TV ads that mean nothing. Maybe those millions could be put to better use. Maybe those millions they're spending on these campaigns could be used to rebuild a bridge or a road, or start a food bank for the homeless, or fund something useful to the public. It makes me sick.

McCain (and Cindy)are the ones who said McCain would NOT run a negative campaign and what have we seen so far? Nothing but negative. Between that and the Republican controlled media types who constantly give Teflon John a break on his memory lapses, how can we get a fair assessment of this guy? Anyone hear Andrea Mitchell last night refer to him as the "odd" uncle that everybody wants to invite to their picnics? About made me gag. Yep, he's the creepy old uncle that I made sure stayed away from my kids at the family reunion. Andrea Mitchell is far from being fair. She one of those bitter old Hillary woman supporters who can't get over the fact that Hillary didn't win.

Unless the press does more equal reporting, including the Libertarian and Independents the campaign will favor McBlinky because he is inane and being given a free ride. We have four candidates when you include Barr and Paul. I consider three of the four qualified mentally and physically. Yeah, because the McCain camp didn't edit Obama at all by failing to note that the tire pressure statement was one part a response to a question on what individuals can do right now, AFTER he finished a long speech fully explaining all the steps to his true energy policy- development of energy alternatives, investments in technology, developing new green industry to revitalize the economy, etc.

As you have had a front row seat to this election, is it not your place to tell us at whose door all the negativity should be laid?

Please don't pretend that there can be a subjective finding. Senator Obama has challenged Senator McCain's policies, positions, and record.

McCain, his surrogates, and pundits with republican sympathies, on the other hand, have relentlessly attacked Senator Obama personally.

Obama made Moveon, and General Clark back off from criticizing McCain. McCain has largely let the hounds loose on Barack since his triumphant overseas tour.

To say that Obama is the cause of the negative tone of the campaign is outrageous. Just because Obama didn't want to debate in a town hall meeting before the convention doesn't mean it is his fault. Was there ever anything agreed to on these town hall meetings? Can we at least out line the issues that need to be covered?

John Sydney McCain III threw his campaign into the gutter (with his bus) when the first ad of the general campaign was him accusing Obama of being responsible for the oil crisis. Ugly, despicable and a LIE. He has since continued down that low road and will never drive out. He loves it down there my friend.
