A Moment In Time-

To Democrats, Republicans, Independents:

I’m not sure what the average age is of all you guys who post here. However, if you remember back in July 1969, you must recall the pride you felt as an American when we landed on the moon. Who could ever forget that night with Walter Conkrite, who was almost speechless when the words “the eagle has landed” was broadcast all over the world. It is one of the most historical nights in our nation’s history.

I think August 28th will be one of those nights as well for our country. When Senator Obama walks to the stage for his acceptance speech, this will once again be a moment which will show how our country is continuing to progress ahead in this new century.

So I hope regardless of what party you may belong to, or which candidate you may have wanted to win, that you all take a moment to recognize the significance of this election. And I hope as well that we all will take a moment to reflect on all those who in the 1960’s especially, sacrificed their lives to make this happen.

This election is as much about us as it is about Senator Obama and what we the people have fought to accomplish and will continue to accomplish. That is what the United States of America is all about.

In 2008, we’re passing the torch. And what better candidate to pass it to?

P.S. - Be proud of yourselves, Hillary & Bill Clinton supporters. Very proud. You made this happen.

Why isn't First Read posting anything mentioning how McCain's speech on Georgia had sentences taken out of Wikipedia word-for-word?
Does quoting Wikipedia on a foreign policy issue show experienced leadership? If Sen. Obama had made a similar move, it would be a huge story. Why isn't the press asking serious questions about John McCain's leadership? He has essentially the same foreign and economic policy positions as Bush, and he has shown a similar failure to choose tough executive decisions over loyalty to friends (eg. Charlie Black, Phil Gramm, and Randy Scheunemann). Sen. McCain needs to explain how the same morally and politically bankrupt policies that have run our country into the ground over the past eight years is a remotely acceptable plan for moving forward over the next four.

In most cases, the having domesticly produced equiptment for the military, is just good sense. It may suddenly not be in another country's "best strategic interest" to provide parts, at some point.

Hey Pat, you make a good point but the "Big Picture" here is that something as American as the H-D motorcycle is something John Sydney McCain III thinks would not be the "best deal for taxpayers". This is not just about the redneck riders but all of the middle-class, middle age riders who could not afford the H-D when they were young. Seen "Wild Hogs"? No? I didn't either but I heard it portrayed some of the feelings of middle-ages guys hitting the open road on the H-D motorcycle.
The median age of the H-D rider is 46.7 sand the median income is $83,000 so the target group is obvious.
Bottom line is this is an American made product that McCain said was not good enough before yet he panders to the biker element for political points. Average H-D riders should be able to see through his buffalo chip.

Neither Party or candidate will attempt to fix anything. Both parties are only concered with how much PORK the can steal. Nothing will change until the 2 party system is destroyed and the electoral is abolished. Direct Democracy is our only hope or our country will vanish in the next 100 years.
