You guys in the MSM really need to define exactly what a "negative" ad is. I've always been of the opinion that a "negative" ad was one where one person attacks the others characters or lies/misrepresents their positions. But if you go after your opponent on legitimate issues, then why is it "negative"? It might be an "attack", but there IS such a thing as a legitimate attack ad.

It just seems like you should be making a distinction between ads that are flat out lies/misrepresentations/character assassination and those that are address legitimate points of difference between the candidates. One is acceptable, the other is not. But rarely does the MSM take the time to draw that distinction, and lumps them all together.

Those of us who THINK can see right through him, while those who FEEL ignore anything about him that disturbs their vision of the man. Before Obama supporters begin screaming that McCain is also running negative ads, let me state that it is not the ads that are disturbing, it is the lie of omission about running them that is the problem. I think Obama's ad buys have been great. I am happy I live in a battleground state and I have seen most of them. I am very proud of the way he's run his campaign. I went ahead and read the 40 page .pdf rebuttal to Corsi's novel. Yeah, whatever. I'm embarassed for Matalin. I have never agreed with her position; but I used to think she was principled about them. I guess not.

I am ready for Obama to be back on the trail. 10 more days to the convention, and I can't wait.

Beware of Barna's categories. 40% of the population self-identify as evangelicals, but the Barna folks only count 8%. They made their own definition, and decided that out of every 5 people who call themselves evangelical, 4 of the 5 are mistaken.

Barna findings on evangelicals are therefore much smaller than they sound. YOu'd think 61% of evangelicals was just under 25% of the country (61% x 40%) but it's not. 61% of Barna evangelicals is less than 5% (61% x 8%.

Obama runs just as many and just as harsh negative ads as McCain. He's nowhere near above the fray, and, in fact, it's typical Obama doing his best to hide his dirt while making everyone believe he's flawless.

It's easy to lose one's religion at an early age when first the priests & nuns ask that you all hold hands and pray and ask that we thou shalt not steal & love thy neighbor. Then the next minute they're telling you what a miserable worthless sinner you are because you didn't shovel the sidewalk or you got caught cheating by eating a hamburger on a Friday.

8-9 years old listening to this hypocrisy can no doubt leave a kid a little skpetical. It doesn't mean you can't grow up to have a kind heart and live a good life. It just means there are hypocrites everywhere, especially the local neighborhood church.

They're supposed to have religion in their lives over @ Fox? Never in my life have I heard such hatefulness as I have when I listen to O'Reilly/Hannity, et al for all of 2 minutes.

The Republicans are a bunch of hypocrites when it comes to "religion" or anything that is valued in this country. Even though GWB is perceived as a stauch Christian, the man has not demonstrated true Christian characteristics by the way he has governed. He has allowed torture both at Gitmo and Abu Gherib, have unfairly fired lawyers because they are not been Republican enough, and countless other things we don't even know about at this point. In other words, the Bush Administration has effectively slimed the entire political process to the point it has reduced the US to be a laughing stock around the world. America's credibility, thanks to pious George Bush, is shot all to heck.

Bush's boy, McSame, doesn't even show that he has one religious bone in his body and it will be interesting to see how rehearsed he will come off at this faith forum on Saturday. He certainly won't be able to keep all the Repub talking points on gays, guns, and God straight for that long. Poor John.

I don't blame Obama one bit for not sharing his every move with the MSM. One, that gives his ads time to sink in with voters before the MSM denigrates them on McCain's behalf. And two, the ads can linger in the air for a while before McCain's attack dogs get a chance to make a statement to their "base," the MSM.

The MSM is an adversary toward Obama, not even a neutral party. I think that's why we're seeing Obama reach out directly to voters more (for example, text-messaging his VP choice rather than publish it in the MSM).

Finally, there was a poll that came out this week showing that Obama is winning every "religious" group EXCEPT evangelicals. I guess it would have overshadowed McCain if FR had included that fact?

funny, i've been saying the same thing about Bush and McCain for a couple of years... It has been proven that they care nothing outside of increasing their own power, influence, and bank accounts.

i was a big McCain supporter in 2000, and now i can't wait for his sham of a campaign to be over and his time in the spotlight to pass. Obama must be prepared for an evangelical ambush and has to share his Christian devotion using language (terms) that evangelicals understand! His (Obama)background is more evangelical-like and charismatic than McCain! McCaine has shown no Christian tolerance and has NOT taken a stand against the negatives ads that most of the time misrepresents truth!

Why would any rational or reasonable person use Bush as a model for Christian living? Read the "Bush Tragedy". He used the "born again" facade to get the Vote. His own conversion is nebulous. He stated that Billy Graham converted him while they were taking a stroll on the beach near the Bush compund. Billy Graham doesn't recall the conversion nor the walk on the beach.

Grant it, McCain was indeed a POW and that is appreciated. But how much more mileage will he pull out of that experience?

What strikes me as odd is that according to the Bible, discernment is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The notion that a Christian can tell the difference between good and evil. Yet all these evangelicals voted for Bush and it is pretty clear that Bush does not have the religious values that people thought he had. In short, he has not run the country like a Christian president. The point to all this is that it is time for Evangelicals to not knee jerk and vote Republican, but stop for a second, look at the man who has Christian values and vote for a leader who has family values, and asks for wisdom to do the Lords will. The Washington Post wonders if McCain may have been too aggressive on the Georgia situation?

Give me a break. The hot head spouted off that Americans are Georgians. It is an amazingly stupid thing to say, not only because it exceeds the bounds recognized by every other presidential candidate throughout our history but because it basically says Russia is currently committing acts of war against the United States.

This isn't rocket science. If Americans are Georgians, and Georgians are attacked by Russian air and ground forces, then Americans are attacked by Russian air and ground forces.

McCain says he doesn't want to reignite the Cold War. Well, he's saying - whether he realizes it or not - that we're now in a hot war with Russia.

Now as to why the media hedges around the issue by wondering if maybe McCain went a little too far is beyond me.

As for reality (i.e., the land in which McCain is a stranger), we all can see where this is probably going. We'll probably end up trading missiles in Poland for some guarantees of recognition of Georgian sovereignty, in language that doesn't address the breakaway areas.

What more appropriate type of ads would you run against a Negative candidate of a negative Party that for the past 8 years has had negative results. The media and the right often criticizes Obama and democrats in general as people so clueless that they will bring a knife to a gunfight. When we bring a gun then the winning starts on cue.

Before Obama supporters begin screaming that McCain is also running negative ads, let me state that it is not the ads that are disturbing, it is the lie of omission about running them that is the problem. Just another example of how he is on every side of every issue.

Obama's cheap shots at Hillary and playing cards with Bill, shows Obama is a mean spirited person. Obama can backstab people with a smile.

I am tired of Obama/Britney playing to every disgruntled freak in America.

Obama seems to have a history of being surrounded by some scary people.

I am not impressed by Obama aka the new Britney drug use in university.

I hope some of the Obama supporters will take a step back and really think about the lies from Edwards. Barack H. Obama has told lies about his personal associations, and supporters want to pass it off, because it doesn't matter. CHARACTER does matter. If Barack H. Obama has the gall to lie to us about his minister, there's probably not much he wouldn't lie to us about. I also hope for some of the younger voters that your eyes are opened. JFK was a great speaker, inspirational but he had the morals of an alley cat. ( Of course, that ran in the family...look at Teddy leaving that woman to drown.) Barack H. "You guys in the MSM really need to define exactly what a "negative" ad is. I've always been of the opinion that a "negative" ad was one where one person attacks the others characters or lies/misrepresents their positions. But if you go after your opponent on legitimate issues, then why is it "negative"?"

In answer to Comment No. 2, I have the answer for you...it is because even Evangelicals DO NOT want to pay higher taxes. Baby...it's all about the money...and trust me...in many many cases..has nothing to do with God.
