I listened on CNN radio to both Obama and McCain as they conversed with Warren. I was struck by McCain's enthusiasm and think he was fired up for this event, likely because it really was a safe and friendly environment for him. I also think Obama did a great job in defining himself in front of this conservative crowd. The biggest unknown is how McCain would perform if the situation was reversed.

It is time that we stop pretending to be ignorant. The Bush administration’s proposed missile defense shield is an offensive weapon. If employed in Eastern Europe as proposed, it would eliminate or reduce the deterrence provided by Russia’s weapons and thereby make the use of offensive nuclear weapons by the United States or Western Europe more likely. We must never forget that others never see us as being as trustworthy as we see ourselves.

If the conflict in Georgia indicates that the Russian bear has awakened and returned, the reason is Bush’s proposed missile defense shield, and to Russia it is the equivalent of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

When it comes to condemnation of Russian invasion of a sovereign nation, the persons with the least standing to make the point are George W. Bush and those who supported his invasion and occupation of Iraq.

About last night...it's clear to see that Obama's Christian faith is real. He spoke with sincerity and thoughtfulness. I LOVE it that two people he listens to for guidance are his wife and his grandmother--two women. I really like the respect for women that Obama shows in his life, his choices, his votes.

I know I'm off subject, but it feels great to know that I'm not crazy. I'm an independent and undecided voter. I thought the forum was supposed to be a conversation with the pastor. To me, Obama came across as a thinker. McCain gave a stump speech and seems to be an opportunist. However, some pundits believe McCain did a better job. What were they looking at? I am praying that somehow our election will be fair and real and that Senator Obama will be our president. I don't expect that the powers that are in charge today would allow that to happen. I sure hope someone at MSNBC is on to the fact that McCain was 30 min. late showing up for the forum with Obama last night. Aug 16. I was watching CNN Rick Sanchez this afternoon and during his interview with Rick Warren Sanchez said that some of the crew (CNN?) saw that McCain was a half hour late to the event. It was stated many times in the lead up to the event that McCain would be in "isolation", not able to hear the questions, and therefore unable to prepare, until he was asked the questions on stage.

The McCain camp is saying that he wasn't listening to the Obama segment. I know that while watching the forum last night I was thinking that McCain was sure quick on his feet with the first questions. Now I know why. Can someone at MSNBC please look into this. The Sanchez show was on at 2p.m.

Promises some groups investments in education, health care and infrastructure while pledging to others that he will balance the budget by 2013.

Portrays himself as an independent maverick while taking millions from big oil and letting lobbyists run his campaign.

Promised to run an honest and respectful campaign while stooping to the worst dishonest Rove style politics in his ads

I hope that journalists start challenging these contradictions and stop portraying him as this folksy charming straight shooter. This is far from the truth

Watching the forum on Saturday, I came away with the opinion that John McCain knew the questions before they were ask. His response and his questioning of the pastor it seemed obvious. Not once did the pastor ask him to stay on the question and stick to the point as he ask Obama.

American are in a sad state if they bought this political speech or stumping in the church for one when the other was told not too.

By the way can someone tell me what renewable energy has to do with dirty oh I mean clean coal?

The more I listen to Senator Obama, I realize that he is who this great nation needs to lead. He shows such intellingence, wisdom and true concern about what is happening to the average person in America. I am not sure that Ameica, is ready to elect an African American, to the office of President. If we let this change go by and elect someone like Senator McCain, I feel that as a nation we will regret it as we now do about President Bush. If Obama is into truth-telling, how about telling everyone that he voted for the Bush/Cheney energy bill (aka Bush energy policy)? Obama twists that action into saying he (Obama) voted for alternative energy and thus McCain voted against alternative energy because McCain (and Hillary) voted against the Bush/Cheney energy bill because it had too many goodies for Big Oil.

Obama lost on the energy issue because McCain got out in front of him. Calling McCain a liar is not going to get him anywhere except sounding like he has a chip on his shoulder for being caught flat-footed by "The Maverick." Very difficult to damage a long-time brand name.
