To All Americans Who Care About The Truth:

Most people I believe would like to think they make a difference, especially honest journalists. Edward R. Murrow did not go after Joseph McCarthy because of their political differences, he went after Senator McCarthy because he was a liar and he needed to be exposed. And like Murrow, I don’t believe Keith Olbermann went after Senator McCain last night in his Special Comments because of political differences; I’m sure he did it because it was the right thing to do. He went out on a limb when for some unexplained reason, no one but a very few will. It was said many years ago that you couldn’t necessarily define “it” but you knew when someone had it. The word that comes to my mind today is “class”. I’m not sure I can describe it. What I do know is when a person has it, I recognize it immediately. Keith Olbermann shows this country every night what it is.

Whether his program will make a difference or not on election day is not the point. What is the point is that he does what a free and democratic media is supposed to do. Question our government to get at the truth. That is why he has John Dean, Jonathan Turley & Rachel Maddow on his program so often. What we have is a journalist who will not sell out to his viewers. In 2008, we now consider this to be a very special quality. That is how far we have fallen unfortunately. It appears that the more cable “news” programs we have available, the more shallow the “news” itself becomes. The important stories are not covered; instead we get opinions from conservatives who sound more and more like the gang from the Nixon Administration every day. They can’t handle the truth, so they lie. And write letters to NBC complaining about coverage. Evidently what Fox Propaganda does is perfectly acceptable to Rick Davis.

So whether Keith challenges Democrats or Republicans is not important. All we want is for someone in the media to do their job. Keith Olbermann does his job. MSNBC is lucky to have him and we as viewers are too. As I write this, one more word comes to mind when describing Mr. Olbermann - integrity. Considering what we have all been through the last 8 years and what we are yet again witnessing from the right wing (win at all costs and use our veterans, religion, war mongering, lies and exploitation to get elected), Keith is indispensible to not only his viewers, but to every single person in this country who gives a damn.

McCain's obsession with "winning, honor, glory, and winning" is starting to reveal his true motives: McCain is trying to make up for his loss in Vietnam. McCain wants to prove that HE can win.

This is all about McCain trying to make up for the war he lost. He crashed his plane, then got caught and beaten up for 5 years. And we did NOT "win" Vietnam. So McCain is on this quest to prove himself... and to make someone else pay for what he went through.

He is not a warmonger out of a desire to shed blood, he's a warmonger because that's the only way he can address whatever inadequacies he feels about his own performance in Vietnam. Yes, I know he's a war hero - but as a soldier, he did NOT succeed in anything.

That's the problem: For all of McCain's blather about "putting country first," he's actually not very interested in this country, except as the place where he gets the troops to fight his wars.

Under McCain, the nation's infrastructure will continue to crumble. While McCain is busy moving little plastic war ships around on maps in the situation room, the health care, housing, and general economic problems will go unatteneed (unless the problems impact the wealthy.

We need someone who is interested in those boring domestic issues, and it ain't McCain.

You're right. Olbermann's report on the "cone of silence" fiasco was highly informative.

The McCain campaign got caught "protesting too much." When they were whining about NBC bias, they were the ones who inadvertently revealed that McCain was in his limo and not in the alleged cone of silence for the first half hour that Obama spoke. I didn't know that until Olbermann explained it.

Whether or not McCain used this opportunity to cheat is beside the point. He broke the agreed-upon rules. With only a few exceptions like Olbermann, few journalists have any concern for integrity. In fact, they seem to admire politicians (like Karl Rove) who cheat and lie but get away with it.

It appears to me that John McCain has to "win" at something for being in the bottom 5 of his class at Annapolis. His father and grandfather were 4 star Admirals. He almost flunked out. I think there's something to that. McCain frequently has referenced his belief that if Washington hadn't meddled, the military could have "won" Vietnam.

Never mind that most analysts have moved on to now acknowledge that there was no "winning" in Vietnam unless we were willing to commit genocide. We were the outsiders; the invaders - no different than the Japanese or French before us.

But McCain clings to that sense of shame that his efforts were wasted by a national government that wouldn't let the military do what it had to do. He wants to make up for that "failure" now.

Every single news bulletin will note something like, "This afternoon, on his 72nd birthday, John McCain announced his Vice-Presidential nominee." It's a HORRIBLE day to announce anything, because if he has the news coverage, it will be noted that it's his birthday. Otherwise, the media would be focusing on Obama and the post-convention fallout, virtually forgetting about McCain the way they have for the rest of this campaign.

While George McBush is standing on the platform of that oil rig in New Orleans, the people should reflect on what this man was doing while New Orleans was battered by Katrina. What was he doing to help the displaced, the hungry, and even the dead. I didn't hear him make any heartfelt sentiments as he did when he stated, "We are all Georgians." He should have answered that Katrina was US's moral disappointment, but he appears to have more empathy for the Georgians than for the people of New Orleans.

George McBush and the Republican party are an oil slick on this country and it would appear that, according to the polls, the voters are willing and ready to put this War Mongerer in office. America will not survive another war anywhere. Well CR, God isn't telling us when life begins, so we're just going to have to make due with what we have now aren't we? Obama dodged the question. He has voted and supported every pro-abortion bill that has crossed his nicotine stained finger tips - so by his support of those bills, he has said he knows when life begins. Obama is a coward for not admitting to his stance.

I'm curious to see when the timing of McCain's VP announcement is going to be. FR already pointed out the downside of doing it Friday, but the alternatives lead to some interesting scenarios. He could try to hijack the Dem convention by making the announcement in the evening before one of the big speeches (Thursday would probably have the biggest impact and keep the VP news from getting lost).

I'm sure Obama would accuse McCain of trying to disrupt their convention, but I don't think the backlash would really be that bad. Then if the Dems try to do a similar thing the next week it makes them look petty and vengeful.

It might be a pretty good strategic move for McCain although the gamble would be that either there is a negative response to hijacking the convention, or Obama gives an amazing speech that overshadows the Republican announcement.

The safe move would be nominating on Friday, or if they're afraid of the weekend being bad timing they could do it Monday which would take some of the focus away from President Bush at the convention.

Wake me up when the Veep thing is decided. Mclame can sing "Spill here and now" if another Valdeez happens. Throw the Clintons under the bus, and why in God's name is Bill C. speaking at the Convention?!? There's another difference between Mcwar and Obama on Iraq; one wants to take care of the two wars' vets through decent healthcare and a G.I. Bill...and another doesn't. Obama will surely remind the VFW of that in his speech.

I respect what Senator McCain did as a pilot and a POW. That being said, what does that matter when you look at the issues? He is wrong on taxes, he is wrong on alternative energy, he is wrong on foreign policy, he is wrong on the economy and he is wrong on his definition of "rich". I am not sure what he is right on. He is not the man I voted for in the 2000 primary over GWB. He does nothing but pander to the religous right and the affluent in this country. This is one white male former republican voting for BHO and Change We Can Believe In! Yes we can!

Have you ever watched Keith Olberman? He has criticized Senator Obama about his support of the FISA bill - for weeks on end.

Sometimes, if a candidate runs a clean and above board campaign, there is not alot to criticize. You know, like Senator Obama's campaign.

Why is innuendo okay with the McCain campaign, like when they are implying the Senator Obama didn't visit the troops in Germany because he wanted to play basketball. That turned out to be a lie but the media reported it for FOUR DAYS - and the McCain campaign is still telling that lie to this day.

The McCain campaign plays the news media like a fiddle. Remember when they cried "race card" to distract from Exxon having their biggest profit in HISTORY? I do.

I heard all to many "GOP pundits" refer to Senator Obama's demeanor at Saturday nights forum as "professorial" as though that is some how a dirty word. I guess I just believe that someone who brings thoughtful insights, offers you opportunities to learn and make your own informed opinion is someone that I and I hope most would like to lead our country. Americans are not sheep to be lead without having any rational thought of our own. I believe a leader not only shows a way forward, but teaches us why we should follow and allows for him/herself to learn from those he/she is leading. I just don't "get it" that being intelligent turns to "professorial" and that is somehow a bad thing.

I'm a bit confused by the analysis that McCain will pick Ridge - how could he after he promised at the Warren forum that everyone in his admin would be pro-life? It seems he would be telling a huge lie to them if he picked Ridge now.
