All this talk of Lieberman as McCain's VP choice is distraction. Lieberman and McCain, if you take both of them at their word about what they believe in (which is a stretch, I know), agree in only one area--hawkish national defense, all war all the time. I think Lieberman may say just about anything to get the attention he thinks he deserves, but not even he would want to be part of an administration that will, like its predecessor, swing to the far right once in power.

Also, Charles Fairbanks was elected VP on the ticket in 1904 with Teddy Roosevelt and later was nominated for VP in a losing campaign with Charles Evans Hughes. The Hughes-Fairbanks ticket lost to Wilson-Marshall in 1916.

It would be really disappointing to me if McCain chooses Lieberman as his running mate. If he did so, that would mean that the Republican party has zero Republicans on their presidential ticket because McCain certainly does not qualify as a Republican.

As a Democrat and Obama supporter, I am hoping that McCain picks his good buddy Joe. It wil drive the hardcore conservatives nuts, driving more of them into the Bob Barr camp. It will also push Lieberman further away from his former party and hopefuly lead to him being stripped of his committee chair. It seems to be a win/win in my book. Plus, Lieberman's continued support of John Hagee should work to keep the Rev. Wright issue off of the table during the general election.
