Second night thoughts

I get the feeling we are being funneled into Barack’s acceptance speech. He has been given a huge relay baton to carry forward by Michelle, Mark Warner and Hillary. Nothing has ever surprised me by how capable he is to meet the challenge.

Gov. Schwietzer of Montana was fabulous. His remarks left everyone in stitches, and he was a good lead for Hillary.

Hillary should be proud. She could not have been any better. Good for her. Probably the most compelling comment I have ever heard “did you just vote for me.”

Mark Warner had a significant line when he said W failed to capture and challenge our potential as a nation.

It will be a busy night tonight. I wish I knew the lineup. I better get the DVR set.

When too much talking and pontificating is going on, I switch to PBS for live speeches. Do you?

When tv & radio commentators spent months & months attacking Michelle Obama with their endless ignorant racism, of course Mrs. Obama had to re-introduce herself. Monday night was the perfect night to do it. And if you had any kind of an open mind, you would come to the conclusion that she was outstanding. And a lovely, lovely person.

We have 2 choices. We can watch hours & hours of speeches (which after a while gets to be boring) OR we can listen to commentary. C-Span has non-stop coverage of the speeches, for anyone who prefers to hear them.

I thought Senator Clinton did an outstanding job last night.

This is what I have learned this week from the commentators - the male Catholics aren't going to vote for Senator Obama because of affirmative action. The females aren't going to vote for Senator Obama because he's not a woman. Lovely.

These people are NOT democrats. Neither are 90% of the pundits you listen to on tv. That much is obvious. Don’t listen to them. Turn them off.

They do not have the best interest of the country in mind. They just want to cause trouble within the Democratic Party. They are not worth 2 minutes of our time.

Eric, you're so right. I still say if you want REAL CHANGE then we need to vote out all incumbents and start over from scratch. I still would like to see term limits inCongress. Until we do that, these PAC and lobbyist alliances and their deep entrenchments will remain a problem. If they don't have term limits per se, maybe they could make it that they can serve two terms consecutively then have to stay out one or two. If they had to go out into the real world once in a while, perhaps, they'd better understand what's going on and what people want/need.

Yes, Hillary did a wonderful job in uniting the two, when she mentioned Bill and the great job he did in the past, priceless. Awe, that was one of the coolest moments of the night. With that said, some people still will not vote for Barack. Did they not hear the other stories? Some of those people were "regular" Americans telling the stories of losing their jobs, healthcare and pentions. Are people this stubborn that they can just ignore their fellow Americans and let them suffer more?

Hillary will be fine, she and Bill have enough money to retire if they want, right now. Some people will ingore their fellow Americans cry for help and still vote McCain? And these people are supposed to be patriotic? This is a sad state of mind and I feel sorry for them.

I sincerely hope the comments from Hillary's campaign staff about 2012 are not true. If so, how can we trust Hillary and Bill to earnestly support Obama for 2008?
Hillary's speech last night was a major positive step that was undermined by a few disgruntled staff members in a NYT article.
If they are truly serious about saving this country, and not their own narcissistic ambitions, Bill's speech, no matter the topic, will have to make that abundantly clear.
I feel bad for Hillary. It is obvious that her staff and Bill have betrayed her. Judging from the speech last night, it is equally obvious that her staff from Mark Penn, Bill Clinton, and Howard Wolfson, on down to her lower level workers, did her a grave disservice in representing her campaign.
Bill can rectify this situation tonight; but only if he puts our country before his ambition; and he can muzzle his staff afterwards.

I have never been a Clinton fan. That being said, I did like her speech last night. Thought she did better than I had expected.

However...

I disagree with KO - it was not a "grand slam". I had a nagging feeling after the speech and wasn't "wowed" - thought that feeling was just because I wasn't an HRC fan and those signs were a little presumptuous.

Listening to Moron Blow this morning, though, I have to agree with Mika, Craig Crawford (article) and Mike Barnicle. She SAID what she needed to say, but it wasn't personal.

I noticed that the speech was still about her - "I'll never forget...I have fought for...etc." It wasn't about what Obama was going to do. She still called McCain her friend. Was that necessary?

I do agree with Rachel in that it will move those who can still be moved. To those "followers", nothing short of a coronation will satisfy them.

In this day and age of the “Information Highway” you would think that people would be more informed about issues and policies and not look at the surface qualities in a candidate. When Kennedy and Nixon debated in 1960 in Chicago the people who listened on the radio thought Nixon was the better candidate but people who watched on television thought Kennedy had won the debate. Before you all go off on Nixon, this is only an example of how people are easily swayed by looks and visual charisma.

Which brings me to this years election, a charismatic person doesn’t mean he will be a good president. He is considered a “rock star” not a politician. His speeches have a lot of great sound bites like a rock star has great songs.

He would make a great friend, neighbor, President of the PTA but as a President of the United States he has no substance. How many here have actually said I want Barack Obama to be president because I believe in his policies and they are…..? From the posts I have read they are mostly anti-Hillary or anti-John.

Why is it ok for Obama or the bloggers to vilify Clinton for voting for the war when Biden did the same?

Why is it ok for Clinton to be ridiculed for things she has said when Biden was accused of plagiarism in law school and in 1987 while running for president?

Why is it ok to have demeaning nicknames for McCain but not ok to debate Obama’s vague policies? Is he for or against Nafta? His he for or against off shore drilling? Is he for or against FISA?

I know most people won’t change their minds. I know I won’t change mine because instead of being swayed by the television mystique I listen with my ears

As to last night at the convention, the speeches and Hillary. These folks who are saying she did not do enough obviously got the RNC talking points. She did her part and praised Senator Obama, it is now his job to sell himself.
Please, please, please just keep reminding everyone of the Women's rights, what will happen to them, the backstop we will take (perhaps 100 years), the courts, and more of Bush's policy. He (McCain) can deny that is his policy, but it is not his record!

After Hillary's stirring speech last night I'm anxiously awaiting Bill's speech tonight. I really hope he brings his A Game tonight and blasts the repugnant ones for turning his budget surplus into massive budget deficits just so the richest and greediest could have tax cut welfare. I hope he enthusiastically endorses Obama and proclaims that he is ready to lead.

I switched from CNN to MSNBC in November of 2007. I now have not watched Morning Joe in 1.5 months (I find out that it is still rabidly anti-Obama from the internet). Why? All America saw last night the reason so many of us are so passionate about Hillary and the job she would do as POTUS.

This morning I can't help but feeling bittersweet and I still do believe, in my heart of hearts that SHE was the best candidate suited for the job, on day one.

With that said- this still semi-bitter, yet pragmatic (over 60 Female working class Democrat) will come aboard and support Senator Obama & Biden. I do so with a heavy heart yet a clear conscience.

When it's all said and done - Hillary is right -
WE are the ones that have to live with these choices that are made after the Campaigning is over and the same problems are facing this Country.

I really do believe more of the same and perhaps even worst, would be on the way from McCain & Co.

For the good of my Grandchildren - I will follow Hillary's lead and urge my fellow voters to do the same.

The question: "It seems as if the Democratic convention so far has delivered on every single thing they've set out to do. How do you counter that?" Rudy: "(deer in headlights pause) NO!! What an incredible speech and woman. ! I have NEVER been as moved as I was listening to her last night. I have been a Hillary Supporter from the start and I will ALWAYS be a supporter of hers. for almost 10 mins she stood before that crowd of her supporters and and listened to their thunderous applause. She spoke so eloquently and strong, and such passion for the American people, You could feel her love-and passion for us and this country. That is the only woman to ever move people the she can ONLY do ! This morning I am still covered with goose bumps just thinking about her and that speech.
Why can't Obama have a 1/10 of her passion and drive. He just doesn't have that passion the reaches out to you like she does. The pride that was beaming in Bill's eyes was so true and heart felt. I even was moved to tears, and for a man that is hard to do. Obama just doesn't have that heart felt passion. I just hope and pray that she can forgive and run again. I pray with all my sole that last night wasn't her swan song as has been reported. If there ever was a President, folks you saw her last night. I bet Howard Dean is just sick today, realizing they put the wrong person up in this election. It saddens me to know that we will have to endure four more years, before ( and I pray she will ) she will run again.
I have never been so moved and so energized by a person as I am with her. Obama will never be able to give a speech like that. Hillary we love you more now than ever before. Last night you gave the largest part of your soul and put in the hands of obama. That was the greatest show of courage anyone could done. To know that you should be accepting that nomination not obama and to be so graceful and polite as you watch your and our dreams slip away. After listening to HRC's terrific speech last night and then Chris and Keith's effusive praise about it, I was stunned to tune in to Morning Joe and listen to Mica and Joe complaining about what they think she didn't do. Now, I've heard all the complaints about Moron Joe (and have largely agreed), but I expected better from Mica. I don't guess the outlyers on both ends of the Democratic spectrum -- the rabid Obamanites and rabid Clintonites -- will EVER be satisfied.

Did anyone catch Bill Clinton as Hillary came on stage last night, mouthing "I love you, I love you" as he clapped for her? Quite touching. I believe that much of his over-the-top behavior, including the word that he won't attend Sen. Obama's speech tomorrow night, is based in his utter guilt at the way he has treated Hillary in their marriage. Could it be that he's not so much against Obama as he's trying to atone for the past?

Bottom Line – Hillary and Her Supporters:

I appears that some Hillary supporters did not get the message from Hillary last night. When asking those who supported her "was it about me" or was it about those examples of people needing help like the Marine she referred too, Hillary was asking her supporters not to disappoint her by sitting on the sidelines and not supporting Obama.

If some Hillary supporters feel like jumping in a river or to go drinking or to skip Obama's speech Thursday evening, or not to support Obama, then won't they be disappointing Hillary? And if they are so committed to her and love her so much as they say they do then I ask you, why would they want to disappoint Hillary? Is it natural to disappoint someone you love when you have the control and power not to disappoint that person. Where does reason exist if one intentionally disappoints someone they love.

Once again. I agree with Hillary regarding some of her so-called supporters. It was not about her. It was about their own self-serving petty and selfish desires whatever they might have been. And if they are willing to disappoint her although claiming to love her, then they also could care less about that Marine or that single mom raising two kids while battling cancer, or those without health care, or women’s rights, etc. And if this is how they feel then win or lose this election, we don't want them on our team.

Hillary did great last night and she is to be commended. She clearly showed that unlike some of her supporters she has the strength, intelligence, toughness to say ok, I lost the nomination and it may even in the eyes of some have been stolen from under my feet, but I am going to buckle under and continue to fight for what I believe in and that includes supporting Barack Obama. Hillary showed last night why she has ” class” and some of her supporters who continue to deny Obama are clearly showing that unlike Hillary, why they have none.

For those of us who have supported Sen.Obama since the beginning and who have been aghast at the behaviour of the Clintons during the Primary, this continued focus on them has got to stop.

The media has a responsibilty to report happenings not opinionate on what they see thru whatever prism they are looking at events. Last night, Hillary Clinton, gave a good speech, said all the right things about the campaign. However, make no mistake, she is looking out for herself and no one else, and tonight, Bill will do the same.

They are both extremley selfserving people and I am disappointed that the Obama Campaign has given them so much time on the agenda. It is time for them to move off stage, this continous attention by the media is destructive to the objective of winning this very important election.

The MSM including MSNBC is being taken for a ride by the Clintons and the Republicans so much so, I rarely watch TV anymore and when I do, I come away with the feeling you guys are trying to make news rather than reporting what you see. I will do my own interpreting.

And Hillary... my god... She kicked McCain's butt last night. Her staff, though, has always been her Achilles heel.
