The question should be "who the heck is Tim Pawlenty"? I guess that "Celebrity POW" McCain needs a total nobody to be his running mate because so many other of his fellow repugnant ones are under the threat of indictment. Yeah must be a difficult choice for the clueless old man who's only choices are Dumb and Dumber or Criminal or More Criminal. I bet he's afriad that his running mate will overshadow him.

Luckily Barack Obama didn't have to worry about picking someone under criminal indicment or worry about his running mate overshadowing him because he's confident in his own abiliies. So funny that the repugnant ones have nothing better than whining about the Doric-style columns of the stage Barack will speak from.

Really glad to see the First Read viewer comment poster is up and at 'em. Must have been a great party last night. Party Hearty tonight FR crew because there's nothing important tomorrow to bother posting about except reporting what great speeches Gore and Obama gave.

I can't see it being Pawlenty. Everything the Republicans said about Tim Kaine is true about Pawlenty. And since John McCain has been WRONG repeatedly on national defense and forgein policy issues over the last 10 years-Pawlenty isn't one who could come in and offer good advise. And with McCain's temper, he wouldn't take it anyway. Pawlenty is like Romney. They'd both go back to the funeral attendee kind of VP. I can't imagine ANY of the names mentioned being his VP choice...well, maybe Lieberman. He's the roll over and take it kind of person...kind of a weak weasel. I was so discouraged when Gore picked him as VP-what a disappointment! And that was my first time to vote Dem of president-previously I'd been a Repub.

Why has no one discussed the approaching hurricane with respect to McCain's plan to increase the amount of off-shore rigs in the Gulf. Already the existing platforms are evacuating, bringing production to a halt and increasing prices at the pump.

What a true disgrace McCain and his campaign are. This is NO JOKING MATTER. The American people are being hit hard right now when it comes to medical insurance and McCain and his campaigns answer is the 'Emergency Room'. I guess McCain'ts answer for the hungry is the 'Food Shelter'. I guess McCain's answer for high gas prices is 'walk'. I guess McCain'ts answer for our poor educational system is 'just read more'.

I guess McCain'ts answer for not knowing how to solve the problems America faces is the fact that he was a POW. I'm sorry Mr. McCain, but that’s not good enough. America needs more than a good soldier, America needs a wise leader and that person is Barack Obama.

We can spend $10 Billion a month on a war, but our nations health its people and the issues we face-- is no big deal, it’s just 'mental'. At least that's what John McCain thinks.

The Repugnants had such poor choices for presidental nominees, the pickings for VP is abysmal. The GOP convention is gonna be hilarious and sad at the same time. I can't wait for the debates. Once the Obama campaign convinces people that McCain is not who he used to be and has become a Bush wannabe, it will be over.

It's not going to be Pawlenty. Pawlenty's from Minnesota where the bridge collapsed not long ago.

Those bridge repairs are financed by the gasoline taxes, which John McCain has suggested suspending for awhile.

McCain would be forced to talk about the bridge collapse and why he supports suspending funding. With Gustav expected to hit at the same time as the GOP convention, it would be a major disaster by McCain.

These family members of POW/MIAs had come to speak with McCain to try to convince him to leave the law alone. Mrs. Hrdlicka gives the following description of what happened:

When he [McCain] realized who we were, his face turned red and he became enraged. He would not accept the letters we had brought, he burst through our group assaulting the niece of Jane Duke Gaylor, mother of a MIA. I followed Senator McCain down the hall asking that he leave the legislation alone and all the while he is denying that he knew anything about the Missing Personnel Act. ...As we reached the elevator he said to me that I didn't know what he had been through ... I then stated I understood what he had been through and David Hrdlicka was still going through it. I had the capture picture of my husband and tried to show the picture to him but he would not look at it. ...The elevator arrived and Senator McCain quickly jumped in -- that ended our conversation. After this incident we went to the Capitol Police and filed a report. We also sent complaints to the ethics committee on the Senator's behavior.

"He went from a smiling, congenial, happy face to a beet red, totally enraged face in an instant," she said. "I have never seen a senator act in this way. We were all dumbfounded how this happened. He threw his arm up, and she goes flying and Jane [who was in a wheelchair] gets pushed aside as he brushes by her. All I see is people flying and I'm behind him [McCain]... This was assault."

I'd love to see a McCain-Pawlenty pairing. Tim Pawlenty was barely re-elected governor in Minnesota in 2006. Rural voters did not support him, and had it not been for an 11th hour "duh" moment on the part of his rival's running mate on the subject of ethanol, I don't think he'd be governor now. He'd fit right in with Bush-style politics, though: He worked hard to diminish the rights of townships and counties to make zoning decisions that blocked mining operations, "big box" retailers, and huge factory farms from invading. He also did a great deal to diminish the power of the state pollution control agency to do anything that would slow the expansion of huge businesses or to prevent further damage to lakes and rivers from every kind of pollutant, including industrial-scale volumes of manure. Another reason he was unpopular with rural voters was because although our property taxes skyrocketed in 2004 and 2005, most of that money went into the Twin Cities and never came back out, and to this day our roads and highways show it. Whatever was done with it, certainly didn't do much for that bridge over the Mississippi river!

Being from Minnesota, we are tired of Pawlenty and would like him to resign to ultimately lose in November. The only problem is his Lt. Governor was the Transportation Commissioner in charge of the 35W bridge inspections - oops - that disregarded key evidence.

National voters should know that Pawlenty - even after the bridge collapse - VETOED key legislation to fund transportation projects that would reinforce bridges and make necessary repairs. Thankfully, the Democrats and some Republicans overrode this veto.
