This move, while intended to show respect for the gravity of the impending situation in the Gulf, seems to me to be nothing more than another attempt to manipulate the public into forgetting the hardships they face because of the current administration's agenda and failures.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but it will take much more than some symbolic refrain to convince me to vote Republican again.

Could the storm heading this way be a metaphor for the impending destruction of the GOP? McCain's VP pick, as many of his decisions have been during this campaign, was a reaction to Obama's choice of VP and a way to pander to his base. This choice shows McCain's sad lack of judgment and inability to stand up to people like Rove. This flaw will be his undoing.

Don't forget--McCain wasted several months in the primaries when he had the nomination sewed up but didn't take advantage of it. He could have been vetting his veeps then and announced early, getting a head start on the GE campaigning. Instead, he waits until after the Dem convention (a HUGE success for the dems) and then names someone who is clearly not ready for the national stage.

This decision makes our choice very, very clear!

There were blue skies, sunshine and then a beautiful sunset for Barack's acceptance speech. On Friday before the RNC convention, one of the worst thunderstorms in history occur at the same time he's announcing this disastrous pick of a vp. Now, thanks to all of those prayers of the lunatics that think God is on their side instead of being on God's side, have mocked the Lord and put so many people in danger as a level 4 hurricane rains on, ironically, the republican convention. This is a big deal...no convention, no firing up the troops, no organizing, generally no politicking. Everything we saw in Denver was well planned months in advance and executed flawlessly. The Rs have to ditch most of the meat of thier convention, scapping thousands of hours of planning, and then do something they are perenially bad at, improvise. This turn of events is frought with danger for the Rs, as they try to balance thier exuberance over the quality of thier ticket with the scope of the calamity occurring in the Gulf.
And no convention means no convention bounce.
