Republican strategist Karl Rove said on Face the Nation Sunday that he expects presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama to choose a running mate based on political calculations, not the person's readiness for the job.

"I think he's going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice," Rove said. "He's going to view this through the prism of a candidate, not through the prism of president; that is to say, he's going to pick somebody that he thinks will on the margin help him in a state like Indiana or Missouri or Virginia. He's not going to be thinking big and broad about the responsibilities of president."

Rove singled out Virginia governor Tim Kaine, also a Face the Nation guest, as an example of such a pick.

"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished," Rove said. "I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America."

Rove continued: "So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States."

Yes, the real problem with Tim Kaine is that he's only been governor of a large state for three years, and before that, he was only the mayor of a mid-size city. This, of course, made him "undistinguished," unprepared for national office, and the very idea of putting him on a national ticket was practically ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to see similarities with 2004. Kerry tried to reason with logic and intelligence. Bush went with emotions. He won because of the "Don't confuse me with facts! My mind is made up!" mentality that appears to be running rampant again in the RNC.

Seems easy to live my platitudes, labeling, name calling. Saves you from having to think for yourself, which in turn could result in the "liberal" button being stuck to your pointed head.

It also seems silly to me that the RNC is blaming the Democrats for all the ills that have befallen our country and the world. How convenient! Haven't the Republicans been in power for the last eight years? McCain's been in politics for 20 some years, why couldn't he "fix" things before? Especially with a Republican President and Congress?

The reason? He doesn't really care about leading the country. He just wants to be President at any cost. He's totally in it for himself, same as Bush.
