He was simply welcomed with open arms, no questions. For 19 months the guy's warts have been completely ignored. Perhaps it's time we start looking at those too?

My Husband and I have been Registered Republicans for 45 years and fully planned on supporting the ticket this year as well.

My son has been a Community Organizer in Boston for the past 5 years and done tremendous and important work helping the less fortunate. My Husband and I are very proud of him and until last night were proud Republicans as well- but we've NEVER been so insulted in all our lives. Imagine if one of your children's chosen career was fed through the meat grinder the way ours was!!!!!

We were sitting there and the entire convention felt like it was mocking us, our wonderful son and the choices he's made in his life - to try and give back and make a difference. I'm embarrassed to say this morning the whole thing had me in tears.

This concept may be laughable to most in the GOP but it's not to us and we support him 100% and we could never support a Party that so willingly mocks members children.

Furthermore, I found the tone of the whole thing to be rather Sophomoric and had virtually NO substance at all - especially Rudy G and Palin.

We wanted to know more about Sarah Palin and instead got negativity and condescending attacks from WHO exactly? Who are you- we still don't know except that you can insult others- many of them!

This whole thing came off as preachy, very divisive and just plain nasty.

Must admit that I feel terrible and ashamed that I would support a ticket and a Party that so freely tossed people like my son under the bus for Political gain?

Or is that just the way the GOP feels about Citizens that aren't up to their high standards of making a living? Who really are the elitist here????

Either way- the attack on Community Organizers may have initiated it and although if I relied on the speeches we still have NO Idea where Palin stands on the issues but- do know that she can recite snarky remarks that were obviously provided for her.

What are her plans ideas hopes- who knows?

Certainly the very limnited info that has been provided on her positions is quite enough for us - this woman is WAY too far Right, even for us lifetime Republicans. This is the direction the GOP wants as a symbol of the future? This is the direction you want to take the Party? Creationism in School, Iraq is a 'task from God', Abstanance, No incest or rape options, Ignore creationism, greenhouse effect is a myth and on and on.

Our youngest son (a Dentist- is that better?)- is a ardent Obama supporter and has been Campaigning here in Richmond Virginia for him for months. Today we are going to join him, not just because our son and thousands of others that work in the Social services, was ridiculed but because in our hearts we've known for a while that THIS time- It's the right thing to do! We will work with the same conviction we did for IKE way back when to get a ticket elected that we feel is representative for ALL (or the vast majority of) the people. We will try and convince close friends relatives and people at our Catholic Church to do the same!

I would have never in my wildest dreams thought this would have happened - that my own Party would make me feel so badly, completely ostracized and like the butt of a cruel and unnecessary joke. In the bigger picture, however- It has become abundantly clear to us and surely to some other Moderate Republicans and Independents-, that the Pat Buchanan and Rovarian Wing has won out!!!! These weren't the values and principals of the Party I supported, not even close. Last night my husband said to me- "President Reagan would be ashamed" and you know what- I bet he's right!

We are done buying into the GOP hate and scare machine and urge any open minded and realistic Republicans to do the same.

My Agency receives more than 50 calls per week for utility and rent assistance, and the number of calls from elderly widows and veterans have more than doubled in the pasrt year. In New Mexico, the fastest growing segment of the population that is homeless is children under the age of 5. Any candidate who minimizes the value of work done at the grassroots level is not just out of touch, but is, frankly, a moron. Former senator Paul Wellstone said "We all do better when we all do better" and that sums up the underlying principle of the Obama campaign.Palin is so mired in her own self-righteousness that she cannot - or will not - acknowledge that Mayors and Governors aren't the ones helping people every day - we need an administration that supports local, grassroots community building - thankfully, there is a ticket that will do that - Obama/Biden.

I've been listening to all the Palin hoopla for the last several days and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon, loving her like she's the best new ice cream flavor at Baskins & Robbins. That is what the media is going to do to her and McCain has already made the media the enemy; i.e. reat the Time magazine "interview" he just did. He has taken a calculated risk, knowing that his campaign needs to work outside the box in order to stop the Obama steam roller. Not a bad thought but his thinking is way flawed and won't work. If we had to vote tomorrow maybe he would stand a chance but with 60 days to go he will be at his peak tonight and then it will be all downhill. You made fun of his speech and the columns behind him. You made fun of his comments about people clinging to religion. You made fun of his lack of experience, and you got a standing ovation.

Congratulations.

However, I must point out that in fact in your speech you offered nothing. You offered no depth, no vision, and no plan for the future. You support John McCain. We get it. But what are you going to do with your role in the Vice Presidency (that is, after you learn what the job entails)? What are your thoughts on the economy, on healthcare, on the war in Iraq (which your son is about to go fight in). What are your plans for the mortgage crisis, the emptying of social security, and most importantly what are your thoughts on National Security?

You claim to want to fill Hillary Clinton’s role in this campaign. Well Governor Palin, Senator Clinton you are not. I know where she stands on issues and I know what she believes in, and from what I can tell it is everything you stand against.

Perhaps this was not the time for you to let us know your plan on any of these issues. Perhaps this was a speech for you to tell us who you are. You are a Hockey mom. That’s great. But what are you offering my country. Why are you running for office?

Perhaps we have to wait for your debate with Joe Biden so you can actually tell us anything of substance. For your sake I hope you are ready. You said you are ready for a challenge. And a challenge is what you will face.

I voted for Bush in 2004 because of national security, and I voted for Gore in 2000 because of his character. Gore was always decent and he proved he put country first when even though he fairly won, he stepped aside.

In other words I am an independent woman. I hate party politics. I forced myself to keep an open mind about Palin until I heard from her -- against a huge tide of logic, she is plainly inexperienced, and against a huge tide of vetting news about how hypocritical she is personally, about earmarks and the literally hundreds of millions of our tax dollars she has squirreled away up in Alaska.

If I was a Democratic, then I'd be in PUMA. Party Unity My U-know-what. May the best person win, and in their case, Obama won, didn't he. Hillary, eventually, took it in stride and she is standing up for her issues. I'm proud of her for that, not for "party unity."

So it came to last night and my mind was pretty well open. Palin completely lost me, and the independent girlfriends in the room with me, and my mostly conservative husband. We believe in common decency. Obama and Biden have given McCain and Palin both all the respect in the world. In turn, she insulted both of her political opponents and in turn, she insulted me and I suspect, most other independents.

McCain obviously made a hasty, poorly informed decision. She obviously belongs nowhere near the top of our government. Palin was like a partisan revivalist, like a cheerleader shouting "beat 'em, thrash 'em, kill 'em, trash 'em."

Partisanship is not reform, dividing this country is not a change, and it is not American. I would refer Palin to our most fair founders George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, to our great compromisers and keepers of our union Abe Lincoln and Henry Clay, and to the independent, decent, American choice in this election Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

The Republicans are great at smear tactics, ridicule, and "misleading" the American public a la WMDs, Iraq was involved with 911, had ties to Al Qaeda and all the other half-truths & unsubstantiated accusations regarding Obama.

Community Service is of utmost importance to those who need a helping hand, i.e., food pantries, homeless shelters, woman centers to escape abuse, etc., etc., which gives people HOPE letting them know someone is on THEIR SIDE, unlike the Republicans who seem to be only concerned with the wealthy and powerful.

The constant ridicule of "community organizer" will come back to haunt the Republicans who, after all are the ones who are out of touch with REAL Americans.

Sen. Obama, the longer the Republican convention has gone on, the better you look. You are educated in the law and know the Constitution and will certainly uphold and protect it much better than the anti-education, anti-expert McCain and his VP pick. You have a long record of work and advocacy on behalf of constituents -- first those you organized, then those of your state senate district and then those of Illinois. For all of Sen. McCain's talk of "honor" and "service", he never talks about the last 35 years of his life (after his time as a POW)...it's as if he has amnesia or wants to reinvent himself and leave out those inconvenient 35 years. And notice that there aren't many Republican Senators standing up there on the stage with him -- he depends on Sen. Liebermann to give us an account of his Senate career. Are all his Republican "friends" discredited, or has he made enemies of all of them?

Hers was taken so well because of timing and what the Repuks needed to hear at the moment and as a result McInvisible looked like the running mate. He's a small minded POW.
