The decision in November is between McCain And Obama, the Obama camp can get Sen Clinton to support and attack all they want but Sen Clinton is not on either ticket and most people don’t care about endorsements. Also I think this sends a message that Sen Obama and their attack dog Sen Biden are afraid of something. They need to grow up and stop running to Sen Clinton when their in a tough spot. This won’t help them with the hold out Clinton supporters like myself who may stay home in November, this only sends a message that Obama is not ready. If Obama wants the Clinton supporters than he needs to reach out to them himself and stop sending Sen Clinton to do his dirty work. We already know we like Sen Clinton it’s Obame we’re not sure of. Most Clinton supporters feel that Sen Clinton is being forced to help any way. No other losing canidate has ever done as much as Sen Clinton but this will be Obama's presidency and he and only he can make that sell. Whenever he uses Sen Clinton a lot of her supporters feel that she is just being used and will back away from Obama.
First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

Heart just sent a cease and desist order to the McCain-Palin campaign for their use of Barracuda.

When will they learn they can only use country songs?

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

"This morning on JOE, McCain manager Rick Davis wouldn't commit to putting her out to media interviews unless they saw it as helping their campaign. Everything he has done in this campaign has been politically motivated, from abandoning all of his 'maverick' positions to his VP pick, yet everyone just buys his "country first" bullshit without even calling him out on the FACT that the last time he ran he was, by his own admission, about "McCain first", not "country first".
First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

McCain did not talk about the economy, he did not talk about health care and he did not talk about the housing situation. Obama go into the fiery furnace and come out unscathed.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

John McCain voted with President Bush 90% of the time

WHAT CHANGE Will he bring ?

John McCain CHANGED from OPPOSING TORTURE to Supporting Torture

John McCain CHANGED from OPPOSING TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH to Supporting TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH

John McCain CHANGED from Calling the Religious Right 'Agents of Intolerance' to Embracing the Religious Right and their poster Girl

John McCain CHANGED from talking about 'Honor' during political campaigns to Adopting the Karl Rove Play book and the dirty politics of lies and smears

THROW THE BUMS OUT !

DON'T BRING THE BUMS BACK !!

Obama / Biden '08
The Judgement and Experience to LEAD AMERICA

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

McCain botched last night - big time. I thought that the funny is thing about the RNC convention was The Fred Thompson Voice over. When you've lived in a box. Repeat 10 times and add silly statements behind. My favorite movie of all time is O' brother were art thou. Just as silly as Pappi O'Donald's campaign saying , I wish we could get some of that REFORM and CHANGE.That is funny coming from the Republican platform. We are going to give you reform and change from ourselves, with the same policies that we want reform and change from. It simply amazes me that People could buy into that nosense. Just like Palin is mistreated because the Media has asked some really tuff questions. Yet she can be as arrogant when talking about her opponents, then use the sexist card for protection the same way McBush is using The P O W card. I think it is slick but unfunny. Kind of like the scrawny guy on the beach kicking sand in the eye's of the good looking guy. Then laying on the ground holding his own eyes as the girls walk by to get sympathy. Cheap ,cheap polytricksters at it's best(worst).
Choice is simple Obama/Biden or Pappi McBush/Lipsticked Pitbull. The later is more like putting lipstick on two pigs.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

Regarding the shielding of Palin from the media, what the media should do is pack up and walk away - after all, if there isn't a story there, why stay. While not being critical of McCain’s lack of oratory skills one can be critical of the content of the speech. The POW personal story was fine, but is not relevant. Besides, we already knew of McCain’s time in the service and we respect him for that service. But what the speech did lack was substance regarding the issues. It’s clear that McCain is attempting to make personalities the central theme while Obama is focusing on solutions to those issues that are facing Americans today. McCain is staying away from the issues (with the exception of the Iraq surge and a generic call for drilling) because he knows he cannot win the battle of the issues. Prior to the McCain speech the Republican’s attempt to make this race about personalities and not the issues was evident when they sent forward McCain’s condescending, sarcastic and unchallenged VP pick.

I was amazed to hear some of the cudos given to Palin for her speech by the pundits while it also lacked any substance regarding the issues and at the same time exceeding all other speeches in personally attacking Obama. Palin has only been on the scene for a few days, a complete unknown, and here she is in her first real appearance before the American people attempting to crucify Obama when not even in the same league. Frankly, while listening to her speech one thing came to mind. Thank goodness I have not and will not ever work for this woman as she is obviously one vindictive bit__.

If you listened to McCain’s over-generalized positions on the economy in his speech as well as a few generic comments about education every single one was and is identical to those of GWB over the last eight years. Rachel Maddow was observant enough to point out how 4 or 5 of McCain’s economic comments were identical to those taken by Bush.

McCain’s call for bi-partisanship cooperation to resolve issues was pretty lame to say the least. Following the speeches by Thompson, Lieberman, Huckabee and especially Palin, McCain has the gall to say that he is the change agent who wishes to end the political bickering. His surrogates and Palin attempt to crucify Obama for three nights running with degrading and personal attacks and then McCain shows up smiling and claiming he wants to take the high road.

Finally, I am pretty amazed at how the Republicans at their convention appeared to be salivating all over someone who most did not know prior to the person being selected as the VP nominee a week ago. Seemed to me it shows a real lack of maturity and common sense on the part of these people. Oh, I know, they think that anyone who can give a fairly good speech trashing someone else is supposed to be their star of the future. But in their haste to crown Palin the future leader of the Republican party they remind me of a guy who while in Vegas salivates and then marries a gorgeous female he met but one week earlier. Only to find out on the first night of their honeymoon that this gorgeous gal turns out to be a drag queen.
First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

OK First Read gentlemen, if McCain couldn't capitalize on all the months and months of that very hard-fought Democratic primary season (when he had locked up the GOP nod fairly early), then what made you think he WOULDN'T squander last night...??

McCain's whole campaign has been a series of inconsistent messaging, hypocrisy, and missed opportunities to show us what he would do as President. Why should we expect anything different now?

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

McCain's speech was all about him. In Obama's words this elections is "all about you" (the people). Also, his economic policy was all Bush. He doesn't have an economic platform. How do you divorce yourself from Bush and then lay out the last 8 years failed economic policies as your own. He definitely missed an opportunity to prove he knows anything about the economy. Clearly he got it right the first time, he doesn't know much about the economy.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

He won't let her meet with the Press but he's letting her campaign??!! Hmmmm, just how many ways can she not answer the Press as she's campaigning. INquiring minds want to know...

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

The mind boggling issue, is that McCain's camp does not want Palin to do interviews. Double standard and male sexism on the McCain camp. Personally, McCain put me to sleep last night so I didn't hear it all or the spin. The written media described the event accurately. Grandpa giving a speech.

Palin is the story for a lot of reasons. She has to be sequestered because she knows nothing about foreign and domestic policy. It's strange that Liebermann is the tutor. He doesn't get it either. You bet they will keep her away from the media as long as they can. Rove handlers realize how little she knows. It will be the responsibility of the media to ask reasonable questions. Not David Gregory got'ya questions, but fair, probing questions. Also not stupid questions like how to you fix your hair questions.
The third Palin point is Troopergate. Between now and the time the final report is released, there will be eyebrow raising questions about her leadership style in Alaska. In a lot of ways Alaska is still a frontier state and rough and tumble may be the norm there, but not for the rest of the country. It is good (for Obama) that the final report will be coming out before the election. My guess is that there were no laws broken, but questionable activity on her part that will diminish the shine she currently enjoys. The unspoken thought will be, "If something happens to McCain, do we really want her to be President?" That answer will be a resounding NO for moderate, swing voters. The evangelical/neocons will love her, but reasonable, sensible Americans can and will be SCARED OF HER.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

We are experiencing this Bearish market and I see a Mc Cain behind a Bush.
A number of years ago we experienced the failure of the Savings and Loan and again, there was Mc Cain behind another Bush.
When are we going to learn?

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

The RNC Freak Show is scared to have "Sinner" Sarah talk on the talk show circuit because she's so clueless and no telling what truth might slip out that will embarass them. Ofcourse "Skirt Chaser" McCain thinks she's a little child, to be seen but not heard unless she reads a script prepared by her male handlers.

How about her clueless answer of a month ago when she said that someone would have to tell her what a VP does daily? Yes she's just a submissive Stepford Wife who can't think for herself and must be told what to do by her male superiors. Where was her intellectual curiosity and initiative to find out herself? Beat out of her by her false god and her male chauvinist pig political party.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

The quasi-journalism continues on this now lame network. It's a wonder Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw, and Andrea Mitchell would allow their names to be attached to such garbage and lopsided coverage. I think your coverage has actually made me less inclined to vote for the party to which I belong. You all need to get back into the business of reporting news with reliable sources as opposed to blog-esque reporting, relying on blogs written by quasi-journalists (if journalists at all) as sources, and using text-message or internet polling to suggest "news" knowing full well that those results are derived from younger generations and are inherently unreliable. (Often such internet and text-message polls come with Chris Matthews' disclosure that they're not scientific. If not, what purpose do they show other than the composition of your viewers, which already is common knowledge?) Finally, I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to start putting surrogates and former party bigwigs on panels of "journalists" to discuss conventions, speeches, and other political events. They're not journalists. They're one-sided party hacks that offer nothing to the conversation. Certainly no news. These criticisms are not unique to MSNBC, although these days you're certainly at the top of the pile of manure. Tim Russert would be ashamed. Before he died, I did not know that he was the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for NBC news. It's obvious now what a grounding force he was at MSNBC (even when cutting Hillary Clinton out of the race). Your coverage, including these ridiculous blogs, is insulting.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

How DARE they use 9/11 footage to promote their campaign! Ask yourself: Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago? Is our country? The Republican Party has trashed the economy, shoved aside the Constitution, and made a joke of our country for long enough. We cannot continue the same failed policies with the same failed politicians and expect different results.

Republicans can wrap their candidates in the American flag, Mom and Apple Pie all they want. I hope my fellow citizens are smarter than that. Identity politics is a losing proposition for all Americans. We must elect leaders with the best plans to solve our significant challenges.

Every American should be outraged by the Republicans expressing disrespect for community organizers during their convention. Every American who has stepped from a church pew to help the homeless, stood behind a fundraising table at a school, or raced to register voters, should tell the Republican Party that individuals standing up to organize their communities isn’t a weakness. It’s one of America’s most valued strengths and contributions. Senator Barack Obama built a life and campaign on that ideal. Obviously, Republicans just don’t get it.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

WAY to Retro. there Johnny Boy...

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

Wow, who let Mark do the First Thoughts for the day after the Republican Convention?

I don't at all think the speech last night was a missed opportunity. McCain went with a well defined 'this is what I want to do...these are our issues, this is my strategy and this is why it is superior to the oponent's' approach and summed it up with a call to action for all of us.

This speech defined what it means to be a Republican. Service to each other...service in our community as well as our goverment, which is how this country was set up. As a Rebublican I was proud to hear him call us all, as Americans, to action. We are, after all, a government 'by the people, for the people' and in order for it to work properly we must all take personal responsibility. I think he did an excellent job of defining his character, his leadership and executive strengths and his desire to lead us all (which in itself implies that we, as citizens, have a role in this whole thing)in a way that drew contrasts with his oponents without grossly attacking them. He also effectively drew a line between the administration of the past 8 years and his own plan of action. Good Job!

...Then again, I thought Sarah Palin did the same thing!!!

Go McCain/Palin

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

By going on O'Reilly, Obama makes the subtle point that he is willing to do hard interviews, while Palin in MIA. A good way to make the "Ready to Lead" point without saying anything.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

I learned from the Huffington Post that Gov. If that's the case, considering we still can't get any straight talk about policy and reform on real issues from the "executive experienced mother of 5" who can't be legitmatelly questioned on anything of relevance for cries of sexism on how to turn this country around, I wouldn't call that a glowing recommendation for a McCain presidency.

The RNC may have flaunted their shiny new "barracuda" as a force to be reckoned with, but she did nothing to instill confidence in her ability to run this country should for whatever reason McCain become unable to finish the job himself. I do know Palin can be smug, condescending, holier-than-thou, and quick on the sarcasm button but can she sit in a room with foreign dignitaries, allies and foes alike, and prevent a war or diffuse the potential for a nuclear or terrorist attack? Can she increase jobs that won't be outsourced, put more money in the taxpayers' pockets to sustain a respectable quality of life, save families' homes, allow their children to go to college, have healthcare for all, or provide a solution to global meltdown?

Seems to me the "empty suit" rhetoric of the RNC against Obama applies as an "empty dress" for their girl Palin and the fact that McCain allowed her to upstage him for the privilege of gaining "maverick points" within his party with no viable substance other than fire, brimstone, and contempt, doesn't speak highly of his nomination and acceptance as the supposed leader of his party let alone that of this country.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

My biggest impression of the McCain speech, other than the largely lifeless delivery, was how much it sounded like GW Bush speeches of the past. GW was from outside Washington and therefore change would come naturally. GW would save Social Security by privatizing and eliminating it. GW would retrain workers displaced by a changing economy, but like McCain didn't explain how. GW would allow tax money to be diverted from public to private schools, destroying them in the process. GW promised the highest standards ever in transparency and ethics--then delivered the most corrupt administration since at least the Teapot Dome Scandal of Warren Harding. Obama talks a lot about a failed presidency. as far as Bush goes he has been the first to actually lower my taxes, and I am lower middle class, 40,000 a year. I even recieved money back. The only thing Dems promise is higher taxes. I did not like the war in Iraq. but we have it. it had very little to do with 9/11. But I ask How many attacks on Americans especially on American soil do we allow. I don't want to die any more than any body else. The Dems did nothing while American people were bing singled out and killed. The reason we have problems in Iraq is the Dems inpower interfered with the military and turned this into a police action instead of a war. Our country is falling appart at the seams. we have 2 main parties and have to except when our candadate loses. and work with who wins. if we do not, we will see.

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

I would vote for the devil himself, after this Bush/Cheney fiasco, before I would ever cast another Republican vote, not too crazy about the Dems either, but what other choice is there, we need an independent party, that truly supports the middle class, and is not funded by big business. Obama/Biden all the way

First thoughts: A missed opportunity?

The only thing Senator McCain showed is why he would be 4 more years of the same. He blamed ALL our economic problems on the price of oil, if you can believe it!

No, the reason the economy continues to free-fall towards a full-blown recession is because the REPUBLICANS DON’T GET IT!

GIVING A HUGE TAX BREAK TO THE WEALTHY IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECESSION WILL RESULT IN DISASTER! In 2001, George W. Bush did exactly that, and as a result of his failure to provide adequate short-term stimulus, the FED was forced to do his job for him and rescue the economy by dropping rates to THEIR LOWEST POINT IN HISTORY and keeping them there. That, in turn, set up the present problem with the housing industry, while dropping the worth of the dollar into the toilet.

AND SENATOR MCCAIN WANTS MORE OF THE SAME!

There’s only one way out of this, and that is to THROW THE BUMS OUT and put REAL change in place.

THANK GOD for Senator Barack Obama. I'm amazed at how both sides demonize each other and blame each other for everything wrong in our country. You guys put Obama through the grinder the last 20 months. I want Palin to answer questions or the media to make the American public aware that she is isolating herself. Note she is the only candidate that is not on the sunday morning shows. Come on Chuck you have a responsibility to get this woman to answer questions about accusations of abuse of power, flip flopping on the Bridge to Nowhere etc. If Tim Russert were alive I would feel better.
