The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB).

The U.S. Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s and 1990s was the failure of 747 savings and loan associations (S&Ls) in the United States. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around $160.1 billion, about $124.6 billion of which was directly paid for by the U.S. taxpayer.[1].

The concomitant slowdown in the finance industry and the real estate market may have been a contributing cause of the 1990-1991 economic recession. Between 1986 and 1991, the number of new homes constructed per year dropped from 1.8 million to 1 million, the lowest rate since World War II.[2]

The Keating Five scandal was prompted by the activities of one particular savings and loan: Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, California. Lincoln's chairman was Charles Keating, who ultimately served five years in prison for his corrupt mismanagement of Lincoln.[3] In the four years since Keating's American Continental Corporation (ACC) had purchased Lincoln in 1984, Lincoln's assets had increased from $1.1 billion to $5.5 billion.[4] Such savings and loan associations had been deregulated in the early 1980s, allowing them to make highly risky investments with their depositors' money, a change of which Keating took advantage.[4] Lincoln's investments took the form of buying land, taking equity positions in real estate development projects, and buying high-yield junk bonds.[5]

McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981.[8] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[14] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[6][15]

The core allegation of the Keating Five affair is that Keating had made contributions of about $1.3 million to various U.S. Senators, and he called on those Senators to help him resist regulators. The regulators backed off, to later disastrous consequences.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

Will this revelation that Palin was for it before she was against it, hurt her or is the new media darling made of so much teflon? If anyone has a reason to be outraged it's the American citizens for having to put up with continual lies and obfuscation of the McPalin campaign.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

She should have voted present.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

THIS IS IMPORTANT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdJUCU1UH2w

PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO. The GOP duo will lead our Country to complete chaos!

We've had 8 years of lies, deceit, and war... we need an intelligent, rational person with wisdom to lead our Country, it's time for change, Obama/Biden will bring about change we can believe in.

God bless America

Obama/Biden 08/12

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

Just because you say it enough times, it still doesn't make it true.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

Terr, Chicago.
The McCain campaign has NO HONOR.

They will do and say anything to take your minds off what is important.

They do not have any real talking points on the issues that are forcing the American people
to live in their cars were once they had lovely homes to reside in.

They are not talking about how we are going to pay the Chinese back every $$$$ that we have barrow
for the WAR that shouldn`t have not been waged in the first place.

They are shelling out false statements and ads and the media just print them as though they were true.
It is pretty obvious that the media is a dog for the right wing NUTS that have ruin this country standing
around the world.

What I don`t get is that if they continue to print, show video clips, voice what they believe and not what
the facts are, that we will as a WHOLE COUNTRY will all suffer for it.

Kind of like when a terrorist and I do mean home grown, blows up a city in which he lives
And his family lives, where the hell do you think you are going to run to?

Do they not see this for what it truly is or is the media so DUMB that they alone will hang us all?

I do not claim to agree with all of Obama policies and plans, but they are far more better than
What has happen to US(A) in the past 7-8 years and now it seems that we are just DAMED if we
are looking for the same in the next 4 years to come.

I see that the media keeps asking Obama the same questions over and over again.
Not so when it comes to McCain.
My belief is it that they know that he will just keep the SAME OLD POLICIES as the bush administration?

There is no-way that Obama can get away with the stuff that McCain has been getting away with.
His attacks are nasty and it`s great for them (the media) as it gives them some sort of high.

Joe Scarbough (spelling it correctly doesn`t matter to me) is the molding example of the racist media
Behind a lot of this B.S.
Pat Buchannon (again spelling it correctly doesn`t matter to me) has the look of the KKK when he
talks against Obama.
Andrea Mitchell, should be ashamed of herself she has no back bone and the same with Meka.

The only female reporter I trust is Rachel Maddow because she tells it like it truly is,
she does not push her views on us, she just reports what is out there.
Keith Olbermann & Chris Matthew are two other reporters that just tell it like it is.

This lip stick B.S. is another reason why we can`t get to the issues at hand.

The McCain campaign should be discussing the following.......

Tell us how your policies will change the directions of America future for the better..........

Give us some information as to where we are headed in this new world that is here.......

Tell us how we will compete with China now that we owe them every dime we make..........

Give us answers as to what Iraq will do with all that OIL that you & bush have falsely sent to WAR over our SONS & China? What does she know about the US economy? How would she select appointees to the Supreme court?

How will she deal with the unemployed and under employed middle class? What are her views on trade - free or fair? How will she rebuild our depleted military? What will she do to take the strain off an overly burdened reserve force?

No, instead McCain trots her out as an accessory and has her stick to the script. And so far, the press has let him and she get away with it.

Like John McCain I served my country in the Navy in the Vietnam theater. In fact I commanded a standby search and rescue landing party set up to retrieve downed pilots.

He also has not stated his position on the above issues.

No way does he get my vote.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

One thing that the Republicans have been so good at and Democrats dont seem to have figured out yet is the Conversation Control. It's like when two brothers fight and one of them rushes to their mother and claims "he hit me with a bat!" Now, whether the kid is lying or not, the mother is going to turn to the other brother and ask him whether he actually did do that or not. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how he defends himslef as long as he is responding directly to that question. That's what republicans do too. All these talks of bridge to nowhere, lipstick-accusations are meant to keep everybody in that conversation. Mind you, we all haven't talked about the eight years of republicans/Bush's failure post-conventions. But, we have been intensely talking about Sarah palin and her shinanigans.

What democrats need to do is get control of the conversation. Let's avoid Palin and keep doing what we were doing pre-convention. Our focus should be McCain and his judgement, his old policies and dangerous views. The Key words here being JUDGEMENT, OLD, and DANGEROUS. If we have to talk about Palin, we don't need all these scattered fact-finding pointless talks. Use one word - EXTREMIST.

Lets get control of the conversation and let's keep the attacks SIMPLE.

Palin repeats dubious 'Bridge' claim

This is woman is simply a fraud....The BIG QUESTION is when is the Media going to do their job and call this BS for what it is?
MSM, do you love that the citizens of this country be taken as fools and continously be lied to?
