With all the chaos taking place in the media, it gives us a chance to hear a complete and clear message from Obama. No choppy sound bites to analyze and twist. He appears sincere and concerned about the state of our economy. He places blame where it should be placed - with Washington. He discusses his plan to help improve our current situation, giving several of his ideas. This is very convincing, and two minutes goes pretty fast since it's filled with substance. We know that is a false statement. I will borrow a phrase from Richard Clarke. Barack Obama's 'hair on fire' warnings has been out there for many, many months. He proposed legislation in 2006/sent letter to fed(Bernanke) over a year ago/spoke to Wall Street at least twice. Meanwhile, McCain and his economic brain(Phil Gramm) has been Mr(s) De-regulators.

Plan to Strengthen the Economy
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/

3/24/08--
Almost one year ago to the day, Barack Obama sent a letter (below) to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson urging them to convene a homeownership preservation summit. Today, Clinton is proposing essentially the same thing.

One key difference, however, is the diversity and representation that Obama called for – not just some of the same people who helped to create these problems or have a direct financial industry stake in the outcome: “I urge you immediately to convene a homeownership preservation summit with leading mortgage lenders, investors, loan servicing organizations, consumer advocates, federal regulators and housing-related agencies to assess options for private sector responses to the challenge.”

March 22, 2007(Barack Obama sent a letter to:

The Honorable Ben Bernanke
Chairman
Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
20th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20551

The Honorable Henry Paulson
Secretary
U.S. Department of Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Washington, D.C. 20220

(Nasdaq) New York, New York | September 17, 2007
Remarks of Senator Barack Obama: Our Common Stake in America's Prosperity

READ full remarks/watch video

http://www.barackobama.com/2007/09/17/remarks_of_senator_barack_obam_24.php

9/16
video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlZt5iN96iM

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

Poor Hillary. I don't know how you "go after" a 72 year old. There's plenty of ammunition Senator Obama can use; I just don't know if he wants to be that aggressive with Senator McCain.

Maybe Obama can make this election not about McCain, but about the GOP and how they have literally run this country into the ground on so many levels.

But of course, Senator Obama can't come off as "elitist" even though it is McCain who has those honors. Is tagging the word "elitist" on Obama an excuse for people in PA, Ohio & Michigan not to vote for Obama? Are they just plain racists and will not, under any circumstances, vote for an African American?

Chris Matthews I have heard, keeps saying "Obama can't connect with working people". What does this mean? Is Matthews making excuses for people in his home state who will not vote for an AA? Don’t miss the Politico story about the Republican Jewish Coalition commissioning a negative poll about Obama in some battleground states. “The poll asked voters their response to negative statements about Obama, including reported praise for him from a leader of the Palestinian terror group Hamas and a friendship early in his career with a pro-Palestinian university professor. Some Jewish Democrats who received the poll – including a New Republic writer who lives in Michigan – were outraged by the poll..."

Were they outraged at the poll or disturbed by the truth? Not one thing printed here is not true about Obama. Fact is, there is much more!

"Meanwhile, Clinton supporter and DNC Platform Committee member Lynn Forester de Rothschild (wife of international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild) holds a presser announcing her support for McCain."

Pretty telling when your platform chair bails!

Here’s McCain’s, which his campaign says will be televised nationally: “You, the American workers, are the best in the world. But your economic security has been put at risk by the greed of Wall Street. That's unacceptable. My opponent's only solutions are talk and taxes. I'll reform Wall Street and fix Washington. I've taken on tougher guys than this before.”

And, John will do it! He has a proven record of taking it on. Palin has done the same and she has overhauled a state government and taken on the oil industry so has the know how. It is interesting that Biden and Obama answered questions about Wall Street yesterday by answering with tax cuts for middle income. What the hell does that have to do with Wall Street? Taxes didn't cause the problems. And, when are people going to realize where the mortgage crisis comes from? Dems pushed for "homes for everybody" and pushed banking into making loans to people who should never been approved for a mortgage. And, now, Obama will have us bail those people out so they can keep those homes. NO THANKS, Obama. You want to take and take and take. As Margaret Thatcher said, "The problem with socialism is that at some point you run out of other people's money". Wake up, Obamatots. It can't work. Put higher tax on the small businesses who produce the most jobs. They either have to raise prices or fire employees. When that happens, it will take care of any tax relief Obama is promising you. And, now, Wonder Boy who has PROMISED his tax cuts WILL happen immediately is saying that might have to be delayed. He's a liar. Palin and the McCain campaign's handling of the Troopergate issue is taken directly from the Bush playbook - stonewall, blame partisan politics and wait for the story to die. It appears they have even embraced the idea that ignoring a subpoena is perfectly in line with American values. It is my understanding that if the court mandates my presence there, I have to go regardless of the motivation behind it. Since we are innocent until proven guilty in this country Palin and company should cooperate and let the State of Alaska bear the burden of proving she did something improper.

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

Obama is also proposing eliminating taxes on seniors who make $50,000, I think he should go a step farther and eliminate taxes on the first $50,000 of workers earnings, this gives a big incentive to WORK and will give WORKERS more $$$ to spend for necessities and things they WANT and this $$$ would be spent in their local communities which would provide profits for local businesses and more jobs for local workers.
retired union man, ibew (Sent Wednesday, September 17, 2008 9:49 AM)
----------------------------------------------------

Actually I like the Fair Tax Plan...it taxes consumption rather than income. It would refund an amount to compensate for the poverty line, but would expand the tax basis to include people who buy goods in our country and illegal aliens.

Unfortunately that quack Mike Huckabee was supporting it so it didn't get a fair shake.

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

Why are the Republicans trying to interfere with ethics investigations despite Palin's voew to cooperate? Capitalism is viable and we will survive this current crisis, like we have others in the past. McCain long anticipated the need for economic reform based on the greed and avarice of big business (well before Obama) was even in politics). McCain's desire for reform is in marked contrast to Obama's quasi social engineering which challenges the basic fundamentals of capitalism and suggests a major overhaul of the system. This might work in Russia and other socialist countries, but not in America.

In terms of the overall reporting that comes out of this website - McCain can do nothing right and the liberal bias where facts are contrued to favor Obama and the cult of personality that surrounds him is appaling and reflects journalism at its worst!

One last thing - I would not discount Palin's influence so readily and assume that we are back to Obama vs. McCain. There are still two months to the election and compared to Biden (who could be replaced with an hollogram), Palin brings a fresh voice one step removed from the Washington establishment and the liberal elites that want to dominate politics. In so doing her influence may restore respect once again for traditional moral values.

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

We chopped off the head of the feared regime in Iraq and now are dealing with the headless horseman. What is emerging is the fact that the national discussion that needs to be had, is that we're talking about fundementally different directions for this nation and society. These philosophies include, but are not limited to, points like a) terrorist acts are symptoms of power struggles that have complex causes. These can not be solved by force alone. b) That we are part of a community of nations that needs to work together to solve global problems. We need to stop going it alone all the time c) The quality of our environment affects us at so many levels. We are not separate from the natural world. d) Energy policy is affected by, and affects, all of the above. Independence is an exercise of national will. e)Successful economic policies are those that benefit the greatest number of people not the fewest. 'Trickle down' was tried and proven wrong during Europe's feudal period.

Just some thoughts for the day....

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

a $1000.00 rebate? what these rich polticians on both sides don't realize or can't coprehend is $1000.00 won't do squat to get most of us hard working Middle class people out of the holes we are in. It is very simple:if we have not been bogged down in this Iraq war and have avoided trillion dollar wasted in fighting the war which is going to end in status quo where another religious faction is going to rule the country ,we may have the money and the focus to avoid the diasters in the Wall Street, provide heath care and generate jobs. The republican party ideology has led us into this quagmire and economic diaster, dreadful division and made us weak in defence and it is mindboggling that some people think that this party and its candidates deserve another chance!Something seriously wrong here!

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

You know as an independent, I have to wonder why I keep hearing all these socialist comments and how they are bringing down this country. I may have missed something but for the 34 years I have been on this earth and in this country, I have yet to see a socialist power in charge... so that being the case if you are going to make a blanket statement about socialists killing this wonderful country I suggest you take out a history book or two and point out to me all the socialists who have made all these changes here.
I was favoring McCain until the Palin pick, now it just looks like his maverick claim to fame is the definition that states a maverick is an unbranded cow...definitely not someone who truly bucks anything anymore.

First thoughts: Has the worm turned?

Palin's tanning bed powered by tax payers money.
