Obama has said that this is an improbable journey and that is an understatement. 19 months ago, NO ONE expected this Black dude to get through the primary much less to become the Democratic nominee. He has gotten where he is mainly because of White people; let us not underestimate America. Yes, there are people who will not support him and may even vote against him because he is Black, but many of those same people voted against him in the Primary. I have faith in the American voters, the majority will vote for their best interest and for the person they feel can help to heal us as a Nation and help to heal our global reputation.

Can someone please note that there is a difference between "misleading" and outright "lying". For example, it is misleading to say that Chuck Todd is the worst NBC political director to have a red fu-manchu in the history of US politics, given that he is the only NBC political director to have a red fu-manchu in the history of US politics. It is a lie to say that Chuck Todd is an African-American, muslim cleric. To mislead is to put a slant on a true set of facts (e.g. NBC political director, red fu-manchu, history of US politics) while lying means that you totally disregard the facts. See the difference? Please stop trying to be "fair and balanced" by turning this into a tit-for-tat exercise.

The Bush/McCain plan calls for privatizing Social Security for 50 year olds who have planned their entire worklife with specific expectations and paid for financial advice from experts who could tell you what your benefits would be so you could make decisions about investments, etc. That is absolutely disgusting. What is your goofy definition of "young workers?" Under 60????? Any changes in Social Security must be grandfathered in with new workers in their first real jobs. Socking it to anyone already invested in the system is more robbing from the most vulnerable to comfort the comfortable. Obama is correct in his scare strategy. Social Security is an example of good government that has worked and paid off. It is not a dinosaur that should die. The myth of disaster is phony and counts on no one wanting to pay a little bit more for a huge pay off. These are the same folks who just bought us 3 trillion in new debt, that we never asked for.

TK in MD. If the myth of disaster in Social Security is phony explain to me where the money to pay benefits is going to come from when the system goes into deficit in 10 years? There is no money in the bank! It is already spent by the current and past administrations. In 2017 when less money comes in than is needed for benefits they have to start redeeming all those treasury certificates. The money to redeem them has to come from current (i.e. 2017) tax revenues. Social Security was great when we had 10 - 12 workers per retiree. Now its 2 - 3. If you want the system to continue you have to bring it back into balance by delaying the age you start paying benefits. That's demographics not partisanship.

That's also why McCain said the way SS is funded is a disgrace, not SS is a disgrace.
