And today the stock market will start it’s recovery without wasting $700 billion taxpayer dollars. The bailout is just another Republican grab at the less fortunates money. Are people going to lose money? Yes, but for the most part these people didn’t earn the money they are losing anyway so excuse my lack of concern. Not exactly a consensus for either party. At least the Repubs in the house were always uncomfortable with this bill. The Dems are p/o’ed because they bragged about having a bill. Pelosi started to blow it this weekend when she released the outline of the negotiated bill in partisan terms. If this was really about us and our money (us=taxpayer), then the tone and rhetoric would not be sound bites like “we have to protect their money.” They stopped by one of “us” the day they took office in DC - ALL of them. I think the medicine is worse than the disease. Let the markets sort this out and we will all be better off in two years. When could you say that about a government program of any sort.
The bailout: Rejected!

MSNBC please git rid of GOP Morning Joe !!!!
The bailout: Rejected!

Yesterday, Bush called nearly every member of Texas's Republican delegation, GOP aides said. Public to get loans for cars, mortgages, etc., my oldest son contracted to buy a car eight weeks ago; he put down $2000 and lined up a bank loan to cover the balance. Yesterday, he went to the bank and, lo and behold, picked up the check. Same interest rate, same payment, no problems. Of course, he has a good credit rating, having made on time payments for his previous car loans, and not carrying a balance on his credit card.

As for falling real estate values, most of the 'lost' value is on paper. People should not have been cashing out the equity on their homes to use to gamble in the stock market, take vacations, or pay off their credit cards in the first place. I have zero sympathy for those in the position of being 'upside down' on their houses. I will, however, offer this: in ten years, the value will be back; real estate eventually increases in value, because they're not making any more dirt. Likewise, the stock market will recover, as it always does. Does anyone remember 1987? I don't recall Reagan injecting the Federal Government into that crisis.

I do believe that the Federal Government should do something because it was the policies of the Clinton Administration that pressured banks to lend to risky borrowers in urban areas; however, in an attempt to spread the risk banks created their own pool of risky borrowers by encouraging real estate speculation. Real estate became a giant Ponzi scheme; these are always fated to collapse.

It remains to be seen what the congress will come up with to take the place of the bill that failed. It bears remembering that members of both parties voted against the bill; it behooves both parties to come up with a plan that can be supported by both parties.

The bailout: Rejected!

Has Nancy gotten the egg off her face yet? She couldn't deliver 40% of her own party! Voting against any regulatory measures (McCain sponsored bill is one) and forcing lending institutions to issue subprime mortgages (ACORN Housing and Obama) are directly to blame. Bush), and they pretty much said in no uncertain terms that they really don't care what their Presidential Nominee (John McCain) has to say either! especially since it appears, by the most recent polls, that he is not going to win anyway! So why risk their political careers to save any of their butts, one is leaving office (thank God) and the other is sinking his own campaign with "STUPID" and irratic decisions (aka...Palin)! Now normally i would take enjoyment in seeing the unraveling of the GOP, and lord knows i REEEEAAALLLLYYY want too, but it comes at a much greater cost to my children, and hopefully one day grandchildren, to sit back and enjoy! Something has to be done in the short run in order for us to deal with this problem in the long run. So i will hold off on my jubilation for the time being and pray that something is done quickly, before my child who is 15y/o, get's ready to start planning and searching for colleges to attend, and maybe, just maybe, i can get him a car to go to college with, I HOPE!!!!! NOVEMBER can't get here quick enough, i hope that i never see another Republican administration in my life time EVER AGAIN!! This is shameful! For weekly paid individuals it will be deducted weekly in the amount of $250 per week, and so on. If there is 5 pay periods in 1 month the auto draft can only take out 4 payments. This is something payroll for that firm have to deal with.

3) If the individual is a business owner, their payment comes directly out of their bank account and their business will be held as a guarantor for the mortgage.

4) No executive can make more than $250,000 annually. Pay increases will be capped at 3%. Any executive who desires to receive more than $250,000 per year, need to submit a proposal to congress and they have to vote on it.

5) The bailout will have a 25% interest rate for the banks and once it is repaid in fully a portion of it has to come back to the people. this can be done as an economic stimulus check of $600 per person with $300 for each child.

6) All the banks receiving bailout assistance cannot outsource any part of their business overseas. All their employees have to be American citizens.

7) If these banks have overseas office they have to pay a higher corporate tax, an additional 10% for not having 80% American staff.

8) All executives making more than $250,000 will get a salary cut to reflect the new salary of $250,000.

9) All executives retiring, resigning, or being laid off will only get 1 month severance equivalent to a month's salary of the $250,000 annually.

This may seem harsh, but the reality is, they want my money, they need to account for it. Too many people are losing their jobs because they are using people from India to be customer service representatives. Enough is enough; you want USA assistance you have to pay dearly.

Thanks
Ruth
The bailout: Rejected!

Look at the way these lying republicans are latching on to an insiginificant speech given by the House Speaker. I don't have $700 BILLION to spare - do you? And, now after we have lost $1.1 TRILLION in the stock market yesterday, we really can't find the spare change.
3. It appears that the stock markets will recover at the opening. Those who don't watch the markets on a daily basis, don't know how superstitious and fickle they are. The markets are behaving erratic because of fear. If we know where the bottom is, we can plant our feet. With a bailout or without a bailout, according to Rober Reich yesterday, we will be in a DEEP RECESSION next year. Thus, why throw $700 BILLION toward saving the financial industry when it doesn't appear that it will help.
4. If we have $700 BILLION to spare - throw it my way. And toward healthcare, energy, education, infrastructure, social security, veterans, seniors, children, disabled, indigent, and on and on and on...
5. With all the talk of certain calamity, no one has convenced me to give my dime to those to whom I believe created this financial crisis. It makes me wonder who will face the harshest days ahead. I believe that most "Average Americans" of which I am a part, have already begun facing their own calamity. We've been through this before and we can weather the storm.
6. It's time we became a creditor nation again. Not only with our government, but in our everyday lives. Older Americans remember the Depression. There was no credit. We have become a nation tolerant and encouraging for individuals and corporations to borrow not only beyond their means, but WAY beyond their means. What happend to working and saving to buy what you wanted?
7. Tough medicine is hard to take, but effective. A placebo bailout plan won't cure our economic ills. It will help a few to feel better, but overall masks the ailment. Let the economic conditions guide us out of this fiasco. There will be a day when the tides will turn and we might once again live on easy street. Maybe this time though we will put in caution signs and guard rails and a policeman or two to navigate the narrow road.

The bailout: Rejected!

Both components of our economy are suffering; the financial services sector (the tracks on which our economic train runs) and more importantly the producer/consumer sector (the engine that pulls the train). The bailout plan that was rejected really only offered relief for the financial services sector. Democrats need to assume more of a leadership roll; re-write the bill adding relief for producers and consumers and then properly educate the public as to why it needs to pass. In this way they reach out to Republican legislators through their constituents. Since Bush and his team have proven inept in educating the public, the Democrats should use their most recognizable figure as their spokesperson Barack Obama. The Democratic bill should be just one component of a strategy aimed at rebuilding our economy to the point when it was at its greatest strength; from the years 1948 to 1962. What gave it its strength then was a large, productive and fairly paid middle class.

The bailout: Rejected!

My husband wants to by a Cadillac for cash. He will not because he can not be sure of a warrantee or parts. I think the whitehouse should use some of the 700 Billion and save this industry. The unions have given much to help, they are just trying to break the union. I am not pro union always, but this should not be blamed on the workers, this all started with wall street gambling.
