The biggest gamble McCain took was making Sarah Palin his VP choice. Not only does this show what kind of judgement he has, it shows you he will do anything to win this election, including putting an unqaulified bimbo on his ticket. This woman is a joke and McCain's campaign is a joke.....not something we need when the country is in the dire straights it finds itself in due to the past 8 years of an incompetent, "but I could have a beer with" president Bush and his administration. With Obama already up by some 5 to 8 points, I consider this a pretty dumb move. In my mind Obama has way more to lose if this election turns into a "Who's Who" of tainted connections, relationships, and associates, past or present. Granted, Obama does know that the general media has and will probably continue to ignore all his tainted relationships, both past and present. But just in case they do begin to investigate (i.e. actually do their jobs in a fair and objective manner), Obama's clear ties to William Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, the liberal group Acorn,....etc will present a clear contradiction to his promise to usher in "new" politics to America. His credibility is already low after lying out of his promises to do town hall debates and take public financing. But if the media ever did concentrate on those tainted relationships and the not so successful projects he did (with Bill Ayers) as a community organizer, it could perhaps move many independent voters away from him who today are leaning toward him.

The DNC knows that advertising McCain's penchant for gambling and his ties to casino lobbyists will give his fundamentalist christian base pause for concern. It will definitely hurt him among the fundamentalist independents (if there are such people). It may not substantially decrease McCain's numbers with certain segments of this hard-core base, but it will definitely create an air of hypocrisy that McCain can't afford at this point in time. This is DNC ad not an Obama ad. Remember during the primary when McCain refused to condemn some scurrilous RNC ad saying that he didn't control them. Paybacks are hell. The ad is definitely dark and suggests that McCain has nefarious dealings. Who knows if it is true. He did it once with the Keating 5, he could be doing again. The whole gambling and tribal gambling issues were wrapped up with Abramoff who went to prison. Tom Delay was proven to be connected but is still running free. McCain's proven connection is in leading the coverup, supressing evidence and slowing the investigation until after the 2004 election.
