Sudden thoughts and second thoughts

Why do people refer to foreign and national security policies as McCain’s strength when his positions are wrong? Shouldn’t that be a weakness? He claims he has ‘the record’, but his record is wrong. He claims he has the experience, but his judgment and track record are wrong.

Why is the MSM setting Palin up for success tomorrow night? Don’t lower the bar for her. Don’t lower the expectation game for her. Let her stumble. Let her make mistakes. Just stop telling us she only has to survive to be successful. If she is as good a debater as many are claiming, prove it. Just don’t declare her a winner because of style. I hate that.

Is Election Night going to be over quickly? I can foresee Obama being extremely close to the 270 mark before polls close in the Pacific Time zone if some of the trends hold true. There are plenty of websites where you can play the numbers game yourselves. Don’t settle for what pundits indicate. Go by your gut feelings, base your predictions on what you have seen or heard, and plot out the Electoral Map as you see it. Do you think the pundits have your home state pegged correctly?

I hope and pray Obama has another mega event after the last debate; something in the 70,000 plus range. Security must be a bear for these events.

Does anyone know if by law early voting results can only be posted as soon as polls close in that state? I was told the early numbers you see at the closing of polls represent the tally of absentee ballots or early votes cast. Aren’t you dying to know what the early voting in Ohio indicates?

I've been saying this for months! The new voters that are most likely to vote for Obama are the same voters who only have cell phones therefor are not being contacted by the polling companies! It will be a landslide for Obama next month.

With all of these 'game changers' (aka distractions), I am simply amazed that the long view is wholly lost (though I know it's naive to be amazed in this way).

McCain engaged in contemptibly unethical conduct with what was then the biggest financial scandal to hit the country--the S&L bailout and his role of one of the Keating Five. His response to his Earnest John Gimme Another Chance plea was to jump wholesale into the financial deregulation of the Gingrich congress which disassembled any semblance of regulation by the 1996 telecom dereg act and the 1999 Glass-Stegall repeal. Riding high on the hog (not the lipsticked pig), this led not only to the obscene Enron affair, which was muffled only by his banty-rooster call to empty the national treasury by borrowing gazillions of dollars from the Chinese and Indians to start the war in Iraq---which has, of course, made the country more unsafe than it has ever been---defining safety in all ways. Now, after admitting he doesn't know squat about the economy in January when debating Romney (where McCain interestingly took a jab at Romney's wealth, while McCain has never disclosed his own via his apparently sticky-fingered wife), he waddles to the podium less than two weeks ago and declares that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong." This, from the 'maverick' who was so scared of losing office that he has named as his replacement a younger, female version of Ted Baxter. (She claims to be Joe Six Pack. I know Joe Six Pack and like Joe Six Pack. But I want him working on my car, building my roads, and maybe being my neighbor. He has NO business appointing federal judges, directing the generals of the world's mightiest army, or conducting affairs of state.) He of the thirteen cars and seven homes who has (and does) shill for the richest lobbies in America has NO business running for this office, let alone holding it. You forgot to deduct the amount of people that voted for Bush in 04, but will not vote for another republican in 08.

Also, Chuck..I am amazed when I work around town and literally hear teenagers talking to others about politics and believe me they are engaged and pumped up about this election. Just like any other American.

My three older children are now of legal age and voting in their first election. Their generation carries with them a color blindness that was not seen in past generations of new voters, thank goodness. They also grew up in a home with a parent who was very vocal about what we should be doing as a nation to help people from the bottom up. The top has already got what they need in excess. I don't tell them who to vote for but they sure are influenced by me. It's Barack Obama for me as well as them. I never had a real issue with John McCain, he just doesn't get what the majority of us are up against. I don't think he ever will, he's a wealthy republican. I would have voted for a republican when I was younger, now I just realize they will vote along party lines and that in essence is against what I believe is right for the rest of the world.

If what you say is true and the new young voters will vote for Obama, they do not have the same philosphy as the older generation of freedom to the people. Most younger voters have been indoctrinated by the Socialist professors and others in colleges and universities around the country. Look for the next attempted game changer to be Sarah Palin going on the attack in tomorrow night's debate. When asked by Couric about debate prep she responded with an answer that her coaches had given her a lot of "good information" about Obama and Biden's records. I anticipate full pit bull mode Thursday night.
