Is it really a debate if one of the parties decides to ignore the questions?

Gov. Palin did not debate, she ran out the clock by reading talking points and making wild claims that Senator Biden could not let go unchallenged.

If winking at the camera, acting like a caricature of “down home folk”, and creating your own alternate reality is what America is looking for, the Gov. Palin was the clear winner.

As a woman, I was embarrassed that a sister would have so little self-awareness that she would consent to be part of some things for which she is so very very woefully unqualified - being a candidate and participating in this debate.

As a voter, my decision to vote for Obama was more firmly supported when I pondered McCain's unfathomable reasons for choosing Palin who is, simply, the worst candidate for anything that I have ever seen. That is going some as Kay "Baby" Hutchison previously held that position in my regard. Kay "Baby", however, at least can present herself as a more serious person than this twit. When I consider all the choices McCain had, I am simply amazed. Yep - sure makes ME feel better to think that McCain's reasoning skills as evidenced by this VP candidate choice would also be the skill set used to deal with the economy, Iraq, and, OMG, "bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran".

As a citizen, I am even more disgusted with MSM who rated Palin's performance so well with the acknowledged reason that she didn't f**k up as badly as predicted. For pete's sake, the woman said and did nothing - NOTHING - that in any way at all demonstrated that she understands enough about anything that would qualify her to be a cashier in Wal Mart much less hold the 2nd most important position in the whole frickin' world.

I am an independent with conservative leanings and I just cannot understand how anyone with a straight face can support the McCain/Palin ticket. I voted for McCain when he ran against Bush for the R nomination but that McCain no longer exists (if he ever did.)

I have reservations about Obama but I have absolutely NO reservations in saying that he is a far far superior choice for President.

The more I listen to Joe, the more I am impressed. The more I listen to Palin the less I am impressed.

Joe came across as genuine and steady, deeply knowledgeable and exhibited a willingness to offer perspective on any subject. When Joe spoke, it was to 95% of the American people. In a stroke of irony I found that Joe Biden is actually the true “Joe six-pack.”

In severe contrast was Palin’s strikingly insincere and unsettling performance heavily laden by the inability to deter from scripted talking points. For style, she either painted on overly thick charm, was disturbingly evasive or engaged in rehearsed combativeness. Simply put, reviving the images of Sarah Palin the real person and Sarah Palin the performer I can only view her as erratic as John McCain. Neither do I trust.

Looking forward to Troopergate!!! You know, the investigation into ABUSE OF POWER that Sarah Palin was for, before she was against it.

"Simple" Sarah proved beyond a doubt that she is unfit for command. She is power hungry as she wants to expand the VP powers, yep "Darth" Vader in a skirt.

Why does she hate the English language so much? She mangled so many sentences and fluffed them up with so many unnecessary words that she was barely comprehensible. It seemed her favorite word was "also". For a communication major she certainly has a failure to communicate anything beyond the most basic simplistic talking points.

Joe Biden defintely tamed the Shrew with his clear concise answers and he was never afraid to answer any question thrown at him while the Shrew had to evade most questions and just wing it with poorly memorized talking points. She proved she does not play by the rules and she will break any law if elected.

I agree. The bar was set so low for her that she could have walked out there with spinach in her teeth and they still would have said she won (as long as she didn't spit it on anyone).

Essentially, all she did was regurgitate standard GOP talking points and recite what she was taught in her "debate camp". If that's what the GOP calls "winning", then she pretty much excelled. But I don't think that she's convinced anyone that she's ready for the VP spot. She certainly didn't do anything spectacular for her ticket. All she did was redeem her own career.

Next debate: Obama vs. McCain on the 7th.

I understand the general line of punditry this morning that Palin exceeded expectations. I just don't think she did well enough.

What I saw was a continual run-on sentence of babble. Is that too harsh? Well, can anyone tell me any points she made? The thing that struck me last night was after nearly every response she gave, I couldn't tell you what she had said 30 seconds later.

For instance, consider the response from which Chris Matthews determined she wants to expand the constitutional powers of the vice presidency. How you can determine that from her rambling non-answer is beyond me. Maybe I'm just not intelligent enough to get it.

And that's even giving her a pass on not answering the questions asked. To some degree, all politicians do that, though maybe not to the same degree as Palin. But I can give her a pass there. I can't give her a pass for throwing out non-sensical stuff like she did. I thought she sounded like a high school student trying to impress a college official during an entrance interview.

After the VP debate, which Palin clearly won, I was astounded to find out that Joe Biden told at least 10 untruths (for you on the left coast, that means LIES) about John McCain's voting record and more.
There goes Biden's credibility. Part of it came out last night and more will today.

No respect for Rachel Maddow. She's just a biased female version of biased Keith Olbermann. I thought she was better than that. Pat Buchanan stuck his finger in her face and said "you know she won, admit it."

Sarah Palin might as well have been a Disneyland automaton singing "its a small world after all." I was appalled by her lack of depth or breadth on any issue, her constant failure to answer at least 10 questions, her continual adherence to the talking points and her failure to show even the slightest command of any given topic-even energy which she is a self-proclaimed expert! Since the low bar set for Sarah Palin was that she didn't p*e on the floor, throw-up on Joe Biden or Gwen Ifill, fall of the stage, or say something amazingly stupid like she did in the Couric interviews, she passed that low bar test. But that's not a low bar I'm comfortable with when it comes to the leaders of the free world. This is not a low stakes exam folks-this is the highest stake test in the world. She failed that miserably. Her folksism were very annoying and distracting. I don't want some one LIKE ME to lead the country, I want some one BETTER THAN ME! And as a working woman in my 40s I find Palin to be an poor example of a working woman. When I think that McCain could have picked some woman like Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Olympia Snowe, Christina Todd Whitman, or Susan Collins, I start to question everything about his judgement and his ability to lead this country in such a time of crisis and conflict. Quite frankly I surprised so many pundits failed to bring any of this up! This debate made me even more comfortable with my choice in Obama/Biden.

Well, as was pointed out - She didn't set the stage on fire. Good for her. She also didn't answer anything! She was rude and indignant most of the time. As a woman, I found it revolting.
I heard several comments last night that Joe Biden was boring in the first half of the debate. Who cares? Are the candidates running for Vice President of the United States or the next host of American Idol?????? Is it boring to answer questions? Is it boring to have knowledge of issues? Is it boring to be able to put together and correctly inunciate a sentence - or even an entire thought with several sentences?

1. Palin was well coached and well rehearsed. (Must have been the creek).
2. Palin evaded questions she could not answer. (Wanted to get 'all that prep' in, even if it was pertinent to the question!)
3. Palin is the 'great manipulator'.
4. Palin gave no depth and substance to her answers.
5. Palin exceeded expectations, which were so low to begin with, that this doesn't say much, does it?
6. Palin was SILENT when Joe Biden said that John McCain is NO MAVERICK. Cat got your tongue, Gov.Palin?
7. Where is Palin's versatility that she consistently failed during the recent interviews? Where is her intellectual ability? THE MEDIA SHOULD INSIST ON PRESS CONFERENCES.
8. Palin shines when she has to smile, deliver a script and be the team's cheerleader.

BOTTOM LINE....PALIN IS STILL NOT QUALIFIED TO BE VP, NO LESS PRESIDENT.

If she thought she fooled the American people, SHE DID NOT.

Aside from his winning and attractive smile, Joe Biden was obviously a class act. HE IS THE CLEAR WINNER OF THIS DEBATE. PERIOD.

To even suggest that Palin's answers were right let alone on topic, and then say she did alright are to suggest you have lowered the bar of expectations so any uninformed rock can run for VP.
I can't imagine any other country in the world where a person with as little knowledge as Palin could run for an office as high as VP.
Just yesterday I spoke to a store clerk who hadn’t heard a Palin speak yet she wanted to vote for her because she was “so cute and smart”. I believe even the least educated person in most any other country would have learned about the candidate before making such an important decision.
The USA is in the mess we’re in because of people like that clerk that want to vote for Palin because she’s so cute. Americans should be embarrassed to act so stupid, but then being so stupid means you don’t even know how stupid you are.

I watched the debates with quite a bit of anticipation to see how each candidate would do. I think it was a wash. However, as an undecided voter, Palin did nothing to swing my vote. I did not like her folksy approach and her trying to be cute with her words and her look. We need someone who is serious about helping get this country on the right track not someone who will wink in the camera and smile pretty. I don't appreciate someone using that tactic as though I am stupid. I also didn't appreciate that she said she wasn't going to answer the questions the way the mediator and Biden wanted, well guess what, I as the public wanted to hear the answers to those questions, not just whate she wanteed to discuss. I was concerned when she discussed more power to the VP role - for someone with her light experience to say that she should have more power scares me. As a woman, I am all for women having opportunity but lets at least make sure they are qualified for the job otherwise it just steps us back 20 years.

i was glad that Palin didn't embarrass herself.

Biden was the clear winner of the debate to me for one reason: he answered all the questions put forth to him by the moderator, and had rebuttals for the vast majority of Palin's attacks. His knowledge of the issues left no doubt that he is ready to be president, while Palin's constant dodging issues and not giving examples of how McCain/Palin would differ from Bush/Cheney.

i also found Palin's view of the Vice Presidency to be rather uncomforting. Biden was spot on about Cheney, and i think Palin wants to emulate Cheney, which is absolutely unconstitutional as Joe pointed out.
