We're sitting here waiting for the 9:30 Red Sox/Angels game and we're watching Countdown w/Keith Olbermann. Boy his show is so insightful. It is so obvious that a lot of work and research is put into his program by his producer and researchers.

What this tells us is the tremendous amount of respect Keith must have for his audience; he obviously understands his responsbility in getting it right, despite what we hear all day long from the right wing.

He has been the glue that has held us, the anti-right wing citizens together as we inch closer to November.

Some people believe the election in 11/06 gave us our voice, gave us our strength to fight back hard against all odds with the vast right wing talking points media. A media which is blasted throughout the country 24/, especially on the radio.

I beg to differ. I don't think it was the election in 2006 that made us dig in; I think it was the road Keith paved for us all, beginning well before the 2006 election, with not only his commentary, but his top notch guests as well.

OMG.... wow... ummmm... wow. You see the problem is too many Americans make up their mind before the candidates are even named. "I'm voting Republican" no matter what. The Republicans trot out a crazy, knee-jerk "maverick", and a VP candidate so horribly unqualified it's scary, and the voters try to find ways of justifying their decision, instead of looking at the hard facts. Obama may be less experienced, but that point is nullified by his vision for the country, his calmness under fire, his heart to really help the average american dig themselves out of the hole that has been created. To think that Americans will vote in a Republican ticket, after the 8 years you went through with Republican policies, with the VERY shady Republican McCain and Palin, who offer up no concrete plans on how they will help the average American, when you have the choice to vote for a thoughtful, intelligent, hard-working, calm guy like Obama, and his intelligent, thoughtful, extremely experienced running mate Biden, is beyond scary. STOP voting out of stubborness and pride, and look at the policies, plans, demeanor, thoughtfulness, and track records of the parties involved. Somehow Republicans have managed to convince the American public as the "wholesome" party, with a "higher" moral ground. Look at the candidates, and tell me which ones better fit this bill... wow... I can not imagine how any one single person could vote for McCain/Palin. I can't. I'd like to talk to them, and see why they possibly could, with a clear conscience. Well, good luck on November 4th.

People voted for Bush because he was a "nice guy", he was folksy with leaders of other countries and then stabbed them in back right when he needed them most. He's a "gut" decision man as is McCain. They both remind me of high school boys who have never got over getting away with bad behavior because "boys will be boys." I don't want a president or VP who acts on hunches, feelings, and anger. I want intellegence, reason, calm and forceful yet able to negotiate from their own inner strength not like a bully. That is why I am convinced that Barack and Biden are the best team. And after the VP debate I am more convinced. With Barack wanting Joe as the strong person he is as a true partner, I can see no other choice. Barack is an individual. I liked this information a lot, very interesting. I know a lot of people like this, they seem to like Obama but something is holding them back. As some one who really wanted to vote for McCain at the beginning, a current military member and a conservative independent I think these people are a good micro snap shot of the white working class view in conservative leaning states like my home state of Michigan. Missouri is like New Hampshire. I don't understand why they vote the way they do. But they seem to be barometers of the opinion of the country despite going against conventional wisdom. I've never been able to figure that out. Are they in a bubble? Are they isolated from the bigger issues? Are they more attune to the bigger issues? I can't tell.

I'm not going to declare a bias here though you can probably guess where my loyalty is. I just wonder who will be the best advocate for American values in the future. Who will best represent America in the world arena for the next four years. Which candidate is set to address the current economic problems? Which Candidate do you want to address foreign leaders? What experience do you think is qualified for Commander-in-Chief? Which candidate's second-in-command do you want addressing the previous questions? Honestly. Step back and take a good look at the candidates.

Good focus group. As an obsessed follower of this year's (and past year's) campaigns. I've watched Missouri sort of take a back-seat as a battleground state, and have had my pride hurt a little bit by its loss as a bellweather, also. The only little bit of original commentary I'd like to offer here is that this state is just a bit more purple this year than most commentators (or very puzzlingly, polls) rate it. Youth turnout is going to be through the roof this year. I wouldn't exactly call myself neutral in this campaign. I'm a firm backer of Obama, but I will say that with running two small businesses I haven't had much volunteer time to spend this year. So I really haven't spent much time urging friends to register to vote, etc. Nevertheless as many as two dozen long-time associates of mine have registered to vote this year for the first time ever. Really very non-political and typically cynical (for lack of a better term) youths. They are SWORN to vote this November for the first time ever. Also, and this is a trend that has solidified just since the economic meltdown, the working-class residents of my South St. Louis County neighborhood have been breaking for Obama like waves against the shore.
Lastly, and this is in case one of my heros Chuck Todd should happen to read this comment. Toddster, in the Western part of the state its typically Missour-ah. Here in the Eastern part of the state we stick with Missour-ee almost exclusively. Columbia and Jeff City are where the two terms really kind of start to "either-or" on you. But aside from that everything else you've ever said is absolutely brilliant. Hahahahaha.

A lot of white people in Missouri are afraid of or despise an intelligent black man like Obama, in the Debate McCain couldn't bring himself to even look at him (it literally drives them crazy to find themselves in a position like this)and so they do everything to raise the bar for him and lower it for their own, and that only makes this candidate become stronger and better, this man is different, he is special. Secondly, the country is got to be in bad shape for them to even consider Obama, you've read the article. But time is teaching them a lesson, they're starting to realize that they keep getting conned into wars, loosing they're lives, jobs, pensions, savings, health-care and homes by people in their party who act and sound like them. If you're poor, a baby boomer, didn't go to college, or dropped out of high school and you can't find a job, you don't want to lower the bar and vote for candidates (actors)just because they're trying to look and sound like you to get your vote, you can't eat and pay the bills with looks and sounds, you need money and someone you can count on who's going to help you get some of it. Missouri it time to stop voting for actors, and vote for a roof over your head, food on the table, an education for your children instead of just wars and a job to support your family and health-care. If we were to get a transcript of the debate we would see that Palin has a great problem in constructing coherent sentences. She broadcasts rather than speaks, meaning she vocalizes some key phrases that are programmed and she just replays them over and over. There were numerous times in the debate I could actually not understand what she was saying because she mangles English so badly and she streams from thought to thought without logical transitions. As far as her folksy, down home manner, that may have played well this election cycle had not George Bush saturated the market with that east Texas plainsman humor over the last 8 years. Also, my wife watched the debate in Spanish on Univision and she said that Palin sounded very uneducated and even weird at times, since obviously a translator has to rapidly understand what she says then convert it to Spanish. Palin says so much nonsense, it has to sound really bad when translated to a foreign language.

McCain loves to "have his cake and eat it too." He suspended his campaign, but attended the debate anyway. He sucked up to Clinton supporters, but chose a conservative running mate. He claimed to be fiscally responsible, but favored spending $10 Billion/month in Iraq and still voted for the $800 Billion bailout. He promoted a "maverick" image, but also boasted about voting with Bush 90% of the time. He vowed to "change" Washington, but hired Washington lobbyists to run his campaign. The simple conclusion is that McCain may be consistent, but he is consistently two-faced, saying one thing and doing another. His loyalty, faithfulness and truthfulness are certainly not a given. In contrast, Barack Obama is solely focused on bringing the country together to solve our problems. McCain/Palin is the ticket that "scares" me; Obama/Biden will definitely get my vote!

It will be interesting to see if some of these "so called" blue collar or strongly conservative areas will show the maturity to even consider voting for a black candidate with the name of Obama.

This is not a claim of racism but that of overcoming the cover of the book, and the rumors and gossip designed to appeal to the worst rather than the best in people.

The Republican Party that Senator McCain represents has failed to make this country at every level. A protracted engagement on foreign soil under the guise of a war on terror, huge increases in energy prices, a greater reliance on foreign oil, the loss of jobs and the shattering of the financial markets.

I still find people living within 10 minutes of downtown Cincinnati who don't even know Obama is half white, not to mention Christian.

This election has exposed deeper racism than one usually sees. I think a lot of people out this way have never been confronted with the idea of being led by anyone but whites, either in their government or work. Now that they are, ugly preconceptions are revealed.

Before the vote McCain said the Financial Rescue Bill was critical. Yet less than half the Republicans in the House voted for it. So much for his leadership of the Republican Party. If McCain is elected, why should the Democrats in Congress repeat their recent act - of saving a Bill put forward by the other side? I just wish I could predict the electorate in my state. I have some very good friends in very rural Missouri. They are college educated professionals and voted for Bush 2000, split on Bush 2004 and are both for Obama this year. But I know they are not representative of their constituency in middle Missouri. It is literally a tossup. Claire McCaskill has represented the rural vote well and I know they like her; but entrenched perceptions of Obama may very well prevail. That is the problem with 'whisper campaigns' and blind e-mails. It sets a perception and regardless of fact checking and debunking; Opinions are formed.

Given this, Obama has far surpassed even the most hideous of claims about him.

This is your wake up call America. I am putting aside skin color, age, temperament, experience, and every other nasty comment I've heard for over a year and voting whom I feel will lead this country out of this mess, re-establish our credibility in the global world, bring back family values, focus on the middle class, or should I say, focus on people of our great nation. I think it's rather obvious who has been demonstrating this. I have to put aside my fears, vote for who I feel will deliver change we need. We have to get out of the problem, the Republican Administration, into the solution, a new administration. I do remember the Clinton years. We had economic prosperity, jobs, a deficit that wasn't astronomical. Life was good.
The next pres is going to inherit a huge mess. I want intelligent decisions made, not knee jerk decisions. I don't anymore agree with the shot from the hip attitude. I want someone with experience on foreign policy, which is sooo important.
