I am an independent senior...last year a republican, and find the McCain/Palin ticket insulting to say the least. How stupid does the RNC think people are. The tactics are bad enough but it's a no change platform that frankly is more interested in continuing a ridiculous war than our own people. My vote for Senator Obama will be for 4 years and if he does as well as I suspect I may vote for him again.

Huh? Doesn't she know McCain's own proposed policies? There is a tax credit which is far short of what even a single person would pay for a decent health care policy and McCain wants to tax the entire health benefit package provided by your employer - for the first time ever. McCain increases taxes while Obama is providing middle-class and low income tax cuts.

I guess that why McCain is fixated on the 1960s doesn't want to talk current jobs, the economy, health care and taxes.

John McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts of $1.3 trillion over 10 years to the government programs.

McCain has said little about the proposed cuts, but they are needed to keep his health-care plan "budget neutral," as he has promised. The McCain campaign hasn't given a specific figure for the cuts, but didn't dispute the analysts' estimate.

In the months since Sen. McCain introduced his health plan, statements made by his campaign have implied that the new tax credits he is proposing to help Americans buy health insurance would be paid for with other tax increases.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Sen. McCain's senior policy adviser, said Sunday that the campaign has always planned to fund the tax credits, in part, with savings from Medicare and Medicaid. Those government health-care programs serve seniors, poor families and the disabled.

Medicare spending for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 is estimated at $457.5 billion.

My great aunt in Florida says that all the seniors at the condominium where she lives are up in arms about this... she DEPENDS on Medicare to cover some of the cost of all the meds she needs in her old age -- she's 82yrs. old and barely manages with Medicare and Social Security... since her retirement investments have lost over half their worth!
