I am from the Vietnam era, I was against the Weathermen, the flower children, Minutemen, and all of the kids who were protsting against the war. But guess what, they stopped the war!!!! PLUS, if he had been charged, and we all know that this government does their damnest to try to make charges stick, including lying and making up evidence, that he would have a felony charge on his record and would not be allowed to hold this office. I would trust Mr. Ayers ten times over trusting John McCain, or double that over George Bush when push come to shove. McCain's ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago.

The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.

The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group.

"McCain was a new guy on the block learning the ropes," Singlaub told The Associated Press in an interview. "I think I met him in the Washington area when he was just a new congressman. We had McCain on the board to make him feel like he wasn't left out. It looks good to have names on a letterhead who are well-known and appreciated.

The important thing to note at least in my book is that Ayers is reformed and had in fact surrendered and joined society and contributed to it tremendously. His cause then was good in the sense that he was against the war although the means he showed that was unacceptable to say the least. But he wasn't proven guilty, he is a respected Professor in a refutable University. He is not in hiding. There is a big chance that Obama wasn't aware of his past when they met as he was rather new to the Chicago scene.

I am more bothered by Palin's husband associating himself with secessionist. And that is very recent. Sarah as Governor obviously condoned it by attending their gatherings. I don't know if McCain was fully aware of this when he picked her. But to throw a stone at Obama for apparently associating with someone like Ayers, he better make sure there are no skeletons in her closet as well that could be even more damaging.

I think unless you live in some cave, everyone is fully aware of the distortion here. It's a question of how many actually willed themselves to believe it.

McCain's campaign is treating Americans as if we have no brain and judgement to see through the facade. That's an insult as much as Palin's selection was into this race.
