I, like most of us here @ First Read, have been following politics very closely for years, and I had long ago come to the conclusion that the most clueless, empty headed & meanest politician I had ever seen was Senator Elizabeth Dole. Lindsey Graham, #2.

It is quite possible John McCain now has top honors. He has not presented one new idea in this campaign to convince me of why I should ever consider him as our next president. Not a single one. All I see is a candidate who has used a combination of divisive politics, fear & war mongering, manipulation, city vs. rural Americans, educated vs. uneducated Americans & just plain outright lies.

Karl Rove, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter & the entire cast of Fox Propaganda - it's payback time. You all failed miserably with your un-American activities. We're bigger than you & we're smarter than you. The country does not belong to you. See, we get it. Your "conservatism" is a code word for "racism".

It's the 21st Century now, so get used to it. And in the meantime, catch up on American history. You just might recognize yourselves when reading about some of our more uglier moments. Because that's what your legacy is going to be after all is said and done.

And it is true that one of your pals, G. Gordon Liddy, as part of the Nixon Administration, was all gung ho for bombing the Brookings Institution. Isn't that something?

Now that's what I call un-American.
Powell says he will vote for Obama

God bless you, Gen. Colin Powell!!! You've put us over the top!!!

Normally, I'm not emotional in any way, but this morning, when Gen. Colin Powell gave the most brilliant, insightful, and glowing endorsement of Barack Obama and laid out the most common sense reasons why EVERY AMERICAN should vote for him, I couldn't help but well up with pride at what courage and passion he displayed. Gen. Colin Powel is a great American hero and probably the most respected moderate Republican in America.

How anyone could continue to listen to the disgusting, vicious smears coming out of the McCain campaign, or even consider voting for John McCain, after hearing and digesting the very clear and crisp endorsement of Barack Obama from such a great and good man is simply beyond me! McCain represents the same failed polices, same old philosophy, same dangerous temperament, same ridiculous lack of intellectual curiosity that George W Bush displayed over the past 8 years. Barack Obama will be a break from all that nonsense. He will usher in a new era of hope, peace, and prosperity. It won't be easy, but he can put us back on the right track. He is, quite literally, our last great hope!

America may be down, but do not count us out. Hope is making a comeback and positive change is blowing our way!

GO OBAMA/BIDEN '08

Powell says he will vote for Obama

What a surprise. When asked about experience and that running a campaign was quite differant that sitting in the oval office making decisions, Powell stated that he has watched Obama educate himself over the last two years.
I guess the assumption is that Sarah Palin could not educate herself over the next two years, as vice president, to take over as president if needed?
I believe that Powell's endorsement was tilted by race. I have a lot of respect for Colin Powell. It must have been a hard decision for him to make, since the policies of these 2 candidates could not be more different. McCain is right on energy AND the economy. WAKE UP people. McCain stood up and condemned the practices
of Fanny Mae & Freddy Mac in 2005. It was liberal Democrats, led by Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank who for years - including the present year - denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.
It was Dodd, Frank and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae Freddie Mac.
It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd & Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today's financial crisis.
Yet, today, what are we hearing? That it was the Bush administration "right-wing idealogy: of "deregulation" that set the stage for the financial crisis.
THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE. A LOT IS RIDING ON THIS ELECTION. DO WE REALLY WANT NANCY PELOSI AND HARRY REID TO HAVE FREE REIGN TO PUSH THEIR POLICIES THRU?

(For more facts on this subject check out Thomas Sowell's website tsowell.com).
ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION? Could I have sat in the congregation of Wright's church and listened to the hateful rhetoric for 20 yrs? It turns my heart upside down to listen to it for a few minutes and I'm not prepared to be led by a man who has no more common sense than that. What does this say about his judgement of people?
Powell says he will vote for Obama

I wish a poll had been taken which asked the American people what they thought about Colin Powell before he endorsed Obama. If those thoughts have changed due to his endoresment, then regardless of all he considered in making up his mind, the racists will believe it was due to race, and the conservatives will consider him a traitor to his party. Either way, they will now try to sully and tarnish him. It is pretty much all they know how to do.

He is respected by the leaders of this country, including McCain, and others. When faced with the "facts" of WMD's he had no choice but to sign on to the war, like almost every other leader, all of them snookered by the bush administration.

I think those who would start attacking him, his judgement, and his character due to this endorsement are the same ones who have soaked up and reveled in all the hate that has risen to the surface during this campaign. They have displayed the true ugliness in themselves, having found an outlet that, for once, provides them with a specific focus instead of the generalized disgruntledness at their ordinary, empty existences.

And these are the people who want me to vote for whom they feel represents them? Not a snowball's chance in...
Powell says he will vote for Obama

Not only does Obama thank General Powell.
