If she is so gung ho for special needs children then why did she slash Alaska's budget for Special Olympics? She's just pandering to get elected and once she's in office she'll drop the additional funding for special needs children. Way too late for any repugnant one to say they care about special needs children when they've consistently cut funding for this group.

Does this for some reason appear to be more of a policy appeal for a Palin ticket in 2012 more than something for the McCain/Palin ticket to enforce when they are in office. My question is where has the funding been for children with disabilities over the last eight years.

And to flat out state that this influx of funds would not be part of the spending freeze that McCain is so adament about says more to what McCain said of Obama. He stated Obama would say anything to get elected. Sounds a lot like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

I think this "policy" speech was more a setup for the next election cycle where the "base" for the Republicans will look for a Palin head of the ticket. Don't be surprised if that ticket sounds alot like the Bush 2000 ticket.

She can start that in the state of Alaska in November and if it works then the lower 48 will adopt it. We were supposed to fully fund No Child Left Behind also but you see were that ended up.

Even if you can send you child to the school of your choice, how do you get them there? How do they get home? Does the school supply transportation or does me or my wife have to quit our jobs just to drive our children to school each day?

Why can't the school in my area be fixed?

Actually - All special education classes need to be fully funded by the federal government so as to free up the money spent by states. States need to pay their teachers and staff more in line with their years of expensive education and spend more on the average student. As it is right now too much of each districts budget is consumed by special education at the expense of 90%of the average student. Let's get fair: if the federal governemtn is going to mandate more special needs classes, they need to pay for it. Who in the hell made Palin an expert on or the lone supporter of children with special needs. There are bloggers on here who have raised children with special needs for years and know more about such childrenand their needs in their little finger than Palin could ever hope to learn in that empty brain of hers.

She is using this issue and her child born six months ago wit hdowns syndrome to gain sympathy votes. That is obsolutely clear.

Every American with any common sense and a heart supports children with special needs and are willing to see programs funded for these children. That is except those who think spending 10 billion a month in Iraq is more important.

The more I watch this woman and listen to the garbage she spews the more sick I get of her. And for those who still support her, go talk to someone who has spent years raising a child with special needs and then you might understand the issue and how these children always need our help, along with the thousands and millions of children starving to death in this world.

She loves her son, obviously, but I have a bit of a problem understanding how Sarah Palin is so "experienced" with special needs children's issues. Her son is only 6-7 months old and she has spent three of them campaigning. Where did she stand on advocating for this issue *before* she knew she would have a Downs Syndrome child?

Still, to be fair, she has more experience with this than she does with virtually any *other* issue. Let's see if she pursues it back home as governor starting Nov. 5.

Let's not forget that Ms. Palin ELECTED to bring a Down's baby into the world. Most couples faced with this prospect, and the expected enormous burden on resources (theirs, others), have the moral courage to let go of their damaged fetus, although the hurt must be tremendous. The same reality bears down on families that decide not to squander Jamie's college education fund on grandpa's last 6 months of life. Economics forces its way into medical decisionmaking, and I think Sarah Palin is operating strictly from a position of moral comfort. She's holier than thou. "Sure, Todd and I decided to have a special needs baby, and you guys can help us care for it, right? You betcha!".
