And Quayle probably had more sympathy and cross-over support.

I know I felt for him a little, thinking that the negative perceptions about him probably exceeded the reality of the situation. In Palin's case, I don't get that sense. In fact, if anything, I suspect she hasn't received the public ridicule many of her statements deserve.

So, while she like anyone is free to run in 2012, I'm just not prepared to think of her as a serious player in that race.

At this point, Romney and Huckabee seem to be the top tier, and of course, anyone might emerge in the next couple of years.

But I will predict this - if the one who comes out with the GOP nomination only reflects the meanness, nastiness and lacking integrity of the evangelical side of the party base, that won't play at all with independents, and the GOP will lose a golden opportunity to take the White House back.

I say that because the economic conditions the next president will have going in will most likely lead to what is seen as a failed presidency. Assuming Obama wins, he'll be vulnerable in four years. The economy is that bad, and poised to get worse. The Republicans would be smart to nominate someone who isn't McCain-Palin small, mean and petty.

Huckabee could be the guy. He has the background to keep the evangelicals behind him while running an honorable (as in not completely Rovian negative) and centrist campaign.

But let's get through this next week before worrying about four years from now.

Palin: Looking to 2012?

Happy you brought Palin up! Run for what? She has no experience, no mind of her own, not even a classy family or style! Just like McCain has been saying about the whole $150,000+ on clothes, she got thrown into this race and wasn't prepared fashion wise or intelligence wise! She will fade away after they loose.

Palin: Looking to 2012?

hilarious.....bozo the clown 2016!!!!

Palin: Looking to 2012?

This woman is leaving behind her a sick feeling in the pits of stomachs, conservaive and liberal. The republicans know if they let this woman scratch her way to the top of their party, they are lost. The part of the republican party that is in love with her are the worst, extremist of all negative types. Low information voters , voters with a lack of education and extream religious views. The real conservatives, the smart people who sit in the back ground and make money cant stand this bimbo. They thought they could control her because she is stupid,(like Bush). Not Sarah, no one can control her, she is going to stupid all over the place and no one will remember her name
in 2012. Forget her ,shes trash

Obama/Biden
marty

Palin: Looking to 2012?

It will be interesting to see how she fizzles while running her own campaign so that the delusional people who still believe that she is qualified to run anything can finally see for themselves what kind of a leader she would make. Also, wouldn't she have to keep her job in Alaska before she could be remotely considered as a viable candidate for 2012?

Carlos Jean-Gilles
Saint Louis, MO

Palin: Looking to 2012?

OK I screwed up. I always said women are a bane and good for you know what! Hey, she's eye candy. I wanted Joe but everyone was screaming and blah blah blah about this and that and all I want is the big chair. What is wrong with this country?! Maybe I should get dual citizenship like all Bush and Cheney's buddies. There's gotta be a country I can win somewhere.

Palin: Looking to 2012?

Once upon a time John McCain’s albatross was George Bush...then it was Sarah Palin...then it was George Bush....then it was Sarah Palin. He inherited George Bush...he chose Sarah Palin!!!

The fact that John McCain invited this barracuda into our living rooms has diminished him. And now this barracuda has left McCain in the dust and she's begun her bid for 2012, there is no doubt.
