Sudden thoughts and second thoughts

Do you think Palin will fade away quickly after next Tuesday?

What will McCain do for the remainder of his Senate term; whimper or fight?

Would Hillary have been in the same position to win as Barack is now, considering the economy? Is she in line to be named Secretary of State? Considering Joe Biden is no spring chicken anymore, would Barack ask her to be his VP candidate in 2012? I could foresee a progression from Secretary of State to VP.

Hasn’t this been the most exhilarating political season ever? I thank all of the regulars here in First Read for sharpening my debate points. My first ever presidential vote cast was in 72, and this by far is the most important election in my life. Nothing comes close to this year.

Take a look at the Republican Legacy. The oil profits from ONE company posted recently, almost 15 Billion profits for one quarter people, not a year!

I forgot the trickle down, like we'll ever see any of this, maybe "Joe the Oilman" will. The madness has to stop. The republicans don't deserve any more chances.

That's the telling line from the piece. Obama is spending the day in two smaller states; one where his lead seems insurmountable at this point, and the other where it would be a nice to have, but probably a bridge too far.

This day could turn into the storyline. If Obama wins, it could be a day people turn to in making the case it was never close down the stretch. If somehow McCain pulls off the come from behind, this could be the day people point to as an anecdote for how Obama lost it.

Most of us in Tennessee are all "bushed" out, just hope everyone goes to the polls and provides mccain with the shock of his life. I'm ready for my home state to turn back to its original blue. for those who are not familiar with Tennessee history, the most hated governor/politian in Tennesse History is Gov. William Brownlow, a republican during reconstruction (and it had little to do with the civil war or the outcome - it had to do with his irrisponsible fisical policies), 2nd moste hated a democrat, Ray Blanton, 3rd most hated, a republican, Don Sundquist. So two out of three of our most hated were republicans. Don't know why they color us red, we should be blue - but then again money talks and the gop is only about the money.

CHuck NY: I have enjoyed your sudden and second thoughts throughout the campaign.

I don't see the polls moving much and if they are steady through tomorrow, the margin is too large for McCain to make up any difference. I assume a majority of the undecideds will sway to McCain, but who knows.

I've been a fan of Charlie Cook for some time. He does not put himself in a position of saying "I'm sorry, I misspoke." There is some comfort when he calls the election for Obama.

I'll be making comments on Monday, but Tuesday I will be GOTV for Obama in Indiana. Damn, it will be close here! The Obama ground organization has been fantastic. I've met a lot of very nice organizers in the Obama campaign. The GOP are still running ads in Indiana, but everyone is desensitized to both McCain and Obama ads. The only undecided voters I've talked to are Republicans who normally would vote for John, but do not believe Sarah is qualified and are conflicted. It's not about Obama, it's about Sarah.

FR: "The Defamation Lawsuit: In North Carolina, Kay Hagan (D) is now suing Elizabeth Dole (R) for defamation after the North Carolina senator ran a TV ad suggesting that Hagan said the words, 'There is no God.'"

Elizabeth Dole has just surpassed every example I can think of, so now in my mind holds the title for sleeziest campaign move of all time.

She should be sued, should lose, should be required to publicly apologize, and perhaps should be forced to pay a hefty amount of cash. If she wins the election, and I was on that jury, I'd suggest an amount equal to six times a U.S. senator's annual salary, plus an amount equal to Hagan's remaining years of life expectancy times a U.S. senator's pension.

These candidates won't stop the shameless lies until there is a real cost associated with them.

I doubt the polls are closing too much, probably just the media (and by media I'm mean everyone, not just certain networks) trying to spice up the election more to get more people to watch their networks and read their blogs and newspapers.

While the media probably doesn't want a fiasco like Florida eight years ago they probably hope on having people watch their Election Night coverage for several hours to increase ratings, and having the race called at 9:00 or so won't help them. The media just likes the drama because it attracts people to watch them, a blowout is just plain boring.

While McCain may be closing in some polls and may pull off a win in one or two battlegrounds it won't be enough to pull the upset off.

Halloween Surprise! Yesterday an African American community leader stated that Obama is not BLACK. He is half white and has NO Slave Blood in him. Obama's winning by a landslide.

It's not like the old days, you can watch the election in real time now, and Florida already has over 40% of it's 2004 total in the bag. And it looks to be a Obama blow-out, maybe 54-46 in Florida alone.

YOu might as well get used to the fact that there's a massive landslide coming up.

I saw McCain this morning - touting Joe the Plumber as a real hero, as his idol? Is he nuts? The Infomercial was TOTALLY worth it. A couple of my college friends - old school Republicans (OK, TX) are now voting for Obama after much soul searching (and cajoling by me,...). They both cited the infomercial as bringing them a level of peace with their decision. They feel that commercial humanized the entire issues (paraphrasing). Yippee, granted they both live in states that it probably won't matter,...but at least it persuaded.

Also, while Republicans might want to paint Hillary as the scary one, NOTHING is as scary to me (and both of the above friends) as Palin being a 'heartbeat away'. She is Bush with lipstick and even less education and National or International awareness. Seeing Russia from your state really doesn't make you qualified to negotiate with Russia over nuclear disarmament. Your self confidence is great, your self awareness is stunningly lacking.

It's coming down to the wire, fellow Obamaniacs. Polls are pretty much all over the place, but they're generally looking good for our team. Now's the time to put it down and bring Obama a victory on Nov. 4th. Get your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else you can grab to the polls. Make sure your vote counts (bring ID, or a bill with your home address with you to the polls). Don't let anyone intimidate you out of voting, don't let them tell you you can't vote (get a provisional ballot if necessary), and STAY IN LINE NO MATTER HOW LONG IT IS.

Now that Obama has a large lead and the election is near he is telling supporters that the hope and change that he said would happen will not happen as quickly and prosperous as he made it seem. Now after elevating everyone up into believing his hype he is bringing them down to the real world. Does Obama ever keep his word? First he changes his mind on accepting public financing, then he changes his position on NAFTA, and now he is booting papers off his plane if they support McCain which doesn't seem to show much "reaching across the aisle" and bringing the country together. And of course he is now taking away the "hope and change" that his campaign has been about for the last 2 years and saying that it may not happen like he made everyone believe. This guy is all hype and no substance. And in 1 to 2 years you will regret electing him president (after he raises middle class taxes).

Here on the West Coast, one has to get up pretty early to post anything on First Read. For me, I will be so glad when this election is over. I feel almost sick to my stomach when I think that McCain might win.

As far as intimidating voters goes, it's a little more difficult to do when your ballots are mailed as all ballots are in Oregon. I don't think that I would like the voting machines that are in some states after hearing about the "glitches" that have been happening. Of course, one can't believe everything they hear on the news or read on line or in the newspaper. Just look at what some are saying about Obama--a lot of nasty stuff.

Now and then some posts are really thoughtful and don't call other blogers names. Those are really appreciated. Just as nasty attacks by the McCain camp turn me off, so do the nasty personal attacks by some blogers, whether they come from Republicans or Democrats. That said, have a nice day First Read.
