When together with my 8 siblings & dozens of cousins were kicked out of the house to "go out and play" while visiting our relatives in the Back Bay when we were just kids, we would come home at nite and tell our parents that we spent the day climbing fire escapes up to the roofs trying to find the Boston Strangler (at the time he had strangled someone across the street from one of my cousin's house).

I am first and foremost a pragmatist. If Franken prevails and if Begich can somehow find 4000 votes in three precincts and a recount, that would give the Dems 58 Senators, and they need to cut a deal with the two "Independents" to get a filibuster proof majority.

On the other hand, such a scenario is highly unlikely. In that case, we need for Harry Reid to borrow some of President-Elect Obama's "spine of steel" and enforce discipline within the caucus. Senator Leiberman is not a "Democrat In Name Only", he is a Republican masquerading as an Independent. I would hope he has defied the party and caucus leadership for the last time. With 56-57 Dems, there are other highly qualified Senators to take those Chairs of Committees.

I am not sure what action should be taken against Sen. Lieberman after his actions during the election campaign.

I feel what was most sad was his positioning to defend his unbendable position on the Jewish/Palestinian issue. I feel he reflects the unwillingness to work together for a resolution to the situation in the Middle East.

The parties involved need to first except that the past is that and what they are arguing over is land. What if someone drops a bomb on it, and then what are you going to fight for?

The parties need to except that each side has a rite and that neither is 100% right. Learning to live together in peace is the key to peace for all.

I doubt that those parties involved will every change for themselves and their children to live in peace.

As an avid Obama supporter, contributor, and voter, I am not happy that Senator Lieberman supported John McCain. However, I think he subjectively had just and sufficient reasons to do so. He has known John McCain as a friend for a long time. I think one of the reasons for Obama's huge victory is in trying to unite us all. And as angry as I am with Lieberman I've been preaching that the Republicans need to bring their party back to center and get rid of the hate-spewing lies, smears and distortions. I think Lieberman needs to look at why he even wants to caucus with Democrats. I think if he wants to continue to caucus with Dems he owes Obama a huge public apology. Everytime I saw Joe Lieberman at the McCain rallies with that grin on his face I actually found it repulsive. I use to like Lieberman and have great respect for him, but to be surrounded by these conservative racist who are probably anti-sematic was just to much. Hearing Palin talk about who does or does not love America more and all the other ugly rhetoric is so divisive. The fact that she criticize science and fruit flies etc and thinks the Republicans will support and fully fund aid for children or anyone for that matter with disabilities shows she is not working with a full deck. Lieberman supported this ticket to win and it is a disgrace.

The question would be will he do as he says "I pledge to work with President-elect Obama". Understanding that because he could not retain his seat in the Senate as a Democrate he went Libertarian but only the next two years will show what will happen for him when he is up for re-election (I think this is right). I don't believe that the character assanations should not have been said and with watch all of this unfold it became very clear to me that there were those out there (Palin - starting this) that tried to instill hate in our country. Have we reached a point in our Democracy where someone can't have an honest difference of opinion without being personally attacked? If so, this is sad for our nation. Joe Lieberman is a thoughtful, intelligent, and above all, honest public servant. Many of the people savaging him on this page seem to forget that he was abandoned by his own party because he didn't embrace the consensus Democratic view opposing the war in Iraq. You can argue that his position was wrong, but it was honestly held. Joe Lieberman supported McCain because he is a close friend and honestly believed that he was better suited to the job of President. Wouldn't it be nice if more politicians occassionally set aside party labels to support candidates and positions they felt were more qualified? This to me is the essence of someone who can be truly bipartisan, which is what we need more of. Indeed, this idea has been a major plank of Senator Obama's campaign, so why attack Lieberman for practicing it?

I always see Lieberman as a lucky charm. He was useless to GORE in 2000 and at least he pays us back by joining McCain. He is going to get the boots in the Senate in next election (Mark my words) and his name will go in the garbage can of history.

First, although none of us will be making the decision, I am concerned when I hear all of you call Joe Liebermann traitor and say ugly things about him. He switched allegiances and lost; we will never know what his motivation was. We only make guesses.

My first concern when President-Elect Obama declared was that he was too young. I have always believed his heart was in the right place, but worried that he would make some early JFK-style mistakes. The Cuban Missile Crisis is the closest we've ever been to nuclear war. Joe Liebermann echoed this concern about Obama, and it was at least part of the reason he supported McCain.

Ultimately, I was proud to cast my vote for Obama, having watched his steady, thoughtful style, and I pray that he makes good decisions and helps us create a better world.

Joe Liebermann has created his own problems, so don't heap more on him. He'll reap what he sowed without your help.

Have some compassion. Think unity, not divisiveness. Otherwise, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

I'm Jewish, I can assure you I'm not anti-semitic (A person who is prejudice against Jews wouldn't be racist, or have "personal racism" as you state, they would be anti-semitic). A person can not like Joe Lieberman for reasons completely unrelated to his faith. I can assure you many practicing Jews aren't fans of Lieberman. And many nominal Jews (Jon Stewart) hold him in very low regard.

Most people who are upset with Lieberman believe Joe only cares about Joe (and Hadassah). When he lost the Democratic primary, he ran as a 3rd party candidate. In late 2007 after he endorsed McCain, he was asked why, and in a moment of candor he let it slip, none of the Democratic candidates asked for his support. It was about Joe. It's always been about Joe. Our shared religion has nothing to do with why I don't respect Lieberman, and your assumption that others criticize Lieberman because he's Jewish, when not one post had a single anti-semitic comment reveals more about you.
