Joe Scarborough made a mistake live on air. So what.

I remember many years ago I went on a job interview. I had been recommended by some educational big wig in the city I grew up in for this position. When I got back from the interview, this big wig was across a crowded room from me and gave me a look suggesting he wanted to know how the interview went. It went well, but because I didn’t want to yell across the room, I decided to just give him a thumbs up. Instead I accidentally gave him the middle finger. Luckily he laughed it off. (I didn’t). These things happen.

I however do think it is a serious matter when Sarah Palin is being talked about as the savior of the Republican Party. Please keep in mind that according to reports, death threats towards President-elect Obama escalated when she began her rallies. She is not someone who could unite the GOP. She’s a nasty nasty woman. And not very intelligent.

There are many people over the years who have been great at rhetoric. That’s the easy part. People like to be entertained. But they’re not good at governing. These people are only good at trying to find enemies among their fellow Americans.

This is not leadership, as we all unfortunately discovered these last eight years.

While I understand why this is the "conventional wisdom", I don't feel that President-Elect Obama's success is strictly based on a backlash against President Bush.

President-Elect Obama won this election with his steady and intelligent leadership over the past 2 years, culminating in the 3 debates against John McCain where he demonstrated a mastery of the issues, empathy for what the American people are suffering through, and a pragmatic versus dogmatic approach to governing.

THAT is why he won the election, because he was the best candidate. He has worked hard to win the American people's trust, so let's not act like its some sort of fluke in hindsight. Nothing could be further from the truth.

A bit off subject...but I've been wanting to share this since Tues...

I was in Milwaukee for GOTV and one of the last of the thousands of doors I have knocked on over these months was answered by an African American woman who is the sole caretaker for her two elderly parents. I asked if she had voted and she said yes but was wondering about getting her parents to the polls. As we spoke and tried to come up with a solution (they are both wheelchair bound and her father is on oxygen) I was joined by my 3 canvassing partners. We suggested that we would help her wheel her parents to the polling place which was about a block & a half away. She asked for a few minutes to get them dressed so we told her we would be back in a half hour.

When we returned to lend her a hand she was in total disbelief that we actually came back. In the meantime she had arranged for a medicar to help her with her parents. As I was saying good bye she hugged me and thanked me again with tears in her eyes. She told me this truly is a new day in America! You see the 4 of us Obama volunteers were middle aged white women who told her there was no way we were going to let her parents not vote in this truly historic election! The hug she shared with me will never leave my soul!

I was lucky enough to get a ticket to Grant Park that nite and after leaving Milwaukee late that afternoon with very tired feet was there to see and experience the celebration which left me breathless! To my canvassing buddy Pat the Realtor THANK YOU again for that opportunity!!!

I called Robin Carnahan's office on Friday to find out what was up with the MO count. They have not certified (and won't until the 18th); but they are still counting provisional and absentee ballots. Also, once certified, it could still run through a recount. I'm too impatient for this!

Pat, Boston - I think you (and like minded inidividuals) should contact John Kerry's office and tell him to back down on a cabinet position. With the uncertainty of Ted Kennedy's health, it would be unfortunate for MA to lose the seniority of BOTH Senators during this historic time. MA has earned a right to be a leader in the Senate. Good point about Obama being the first sitting senator elected since 1960 and only having a few years in the Senate. It makes me glad he ran now...there's something about spending years in the Senate that makes it hard to get elected president. Part of it is the long voting record, but Obama had a pretty long voting record in the State Senate that opponents could pick apart. I think the biggest problem for sitting senators is that they are kind of in a bubble in Washington and lose touch with the real world if they've been there too long. That makes them tone-deaf to the mood of the voters. I live in Washington, DC and I know firsthand that it's sometimes hard to relate to low-information voters because just about everyone I know lives and breathes politics like me and that's the culture here.

you know, all the poor sports, we won now were gonna rub conservative noses in it is really quite contrary to the message that your candidate was speaking about during this entire election cycle. a spirit of bi-partisanship doesn't start in washington, it starts wherever americans communicate with each other.

Obama was the first democrat i've ever voted for. he got my vote because of his post-partisan approach, and he got my support because the platform he outlined was best for America in my opinion. i'll be the first to applaud him should he succeed in addressing the issues outlined, and the first to condemn him if he doesn't live up to my expectations. The civility we need in our politics starts with us, and the left wing had better understand that compromise starts with the people, and works up into government.

if you don't act with a sense of bi-partisanship on message boards, forums, and other avenues of communication at home, and begin bridging the gap between left and right there, it will never translate into bi-partisanship in washington.

time to grow up for both sides and start finding areas of compromise.

Not surprising to me. The Senate is a terrible place from which to draw a presidential nominee. First because over a lengthy Senate career there will be votes that seem contradictory (because so much crap gets bundled together in these bills). Second, senators debate a lot, and they have track records of being on pretty much every side of every issue. In this respect, there's no end to the stuff to use against a long-standing senator turned nominee. Just ask John Kerry.

The other point is that the two jobs are so different, with the Senate really offering no preparation for an executive position. Would Bob Dole have been a good executive? All indicators point to no. Same for McCain. They both, while successful in the Senate, seem to not get along with large organizations - and as we saw in their campaigns, even when that organization is their own.

Maybe the good news for us is we're getting Obama before he had been a senator for too long.

Trickle down works because it takes requires that the best and the brightest people of our country to work hard and produce goods and service people need. These people cannot do all the work themselves though, so they must hire others to support their efforts. This is why trickle-down works. This is a producer type of an economy.

Trickle-up, i.e., taking money from the producers and giving (re-distributing it) to people that do not produce never works. That is a consumer economy. As more people consume without producing, then the costs of goods and services rises (inflation). This is exactly what economy Obama is advocating. It will never work, it never has.

To Linda in Kansas -- I agree there's still a ways to go for women to be treated equally in this county, but to say ALL liberals and the entire MSM hate women is a major overstatement. Part of what caused Hillary to lose the primaries (and I supported her at that time) was the fact that so many people, especially Repubs but Dems, too, simply hate the Clintons. Hillary came so close to winning that had she run the almost flawless campaign Obama did she would have won. And I can't believe you're blaming "women-haters" for bringing down Palin. McCain should never have picked her as his running mate because she isn't qualified. I don't believe she's as dumb as she's being made out to be, but I also don't think she's the sharpest knife in the drawer, and that's what we need to deal with the current state of the country and the world.

It is actually an advantage for Palin not to be interviewed so often. Listening to the snipits this past weekend reinforce her inability to speak in an understandable manner. I heard over the weekend that Democratic leaders and Obama are all trying to get the money for the auto industry and the stimulus to America on Bush’s watch so Obama and Democrats can place blame on Bush Administration for increasing the debt and it not be on Obama as he goes into his term if it fails.” It was already done before he took over.”
They now know America has a short memory and will be more than happy to blame it on Bush. If it is effective and it helps, they can say they orchestrated it and Obama proved his leadership abilities on the economy. Sound possible?
