Those who write off the 2008 election by saying that Republican candidates weren’t conservative enough are in denial. They are political ostriches, refusing to acknowledge that the country and the electorate are changing and that old recipes don’t work any more.

more than any other issue was the creation by republican operatives ten years ago...a news site that has sincerely warped American news...where the battle for the truth has swayed so many.

Good for Charlie Cook, for he is exactly right. I used to be a Republican when they were fiscally conservative and socially "live and let live". The evolution the Republican party into the regressive, cultural divisive party that it has become is an anathema to right thinking people.

If the Republican party clings to the right wing regressive views on society, science and the like they will be left in the dust bin of history. They need to encourage the James Dobsons to leave and form their own party.

Every time I hear McCain refer to Theodore Roosevelt I want to throw something at the tv. TR was a scientist first and foremost and would never have understood how the Republican Party wants to head back to the 1800's when there are so many discoveries waiting to be made. TR also abhorred those who put big business over people's needs and that is why he formed the Bull Moose party. TR may be McCain's hero, but trust me when I say that TR would not consider McCain to be his.

I see the GOP splitting into two parties. The more moderate party with people like Crist and Pawlenty, and the extreme right-wing being led by people like Sarah Palin and Pat Buchannon. While this will temporarily result in the Democrats being the dominate party at least through 2016, this will also make way for one of the finge parties like the Libertarians, the Green Party, the Bull Moose, etc., to come to the forefront, and effectively end the "two party" system.

The bottom line is that the Republican party as we have known it is dead and waiting to be burried.

Last night I saw clips from Sarah Palin's speech/press conference???? on Keith Oberman and she is no more prepared than she was in the beginning. It is honestly painful to watch her anymore. The media continues to give this dolt a free pass, but that aside, Palin has not only proven to the American public that she’s not credible for the national office she was a candidate for, she’s also proven that she’s not credible as a state level politician either. For those that think otherwise and still believe that wrestling is real, please wake up…..look into her resume claims, most end up along with the “Bridge to No-Where” as being distorted and over emphasized….. She apparently snowed the paltry number of voters they have in Alaska into thinking she was some type of renaissance from corruption only to replace it with her own brand of abuse of power……

What has not been addressed enough, even by the venerable Charlie Cook, is that a sea change in the electorate was coming anyway--except not until 2012 or even 2016. Obama accelerated it. This is not by any means the Democrats high water mark or the low point for the Republicans. This is history rolling over the populace--America is a very different place from when the republican ideology evolved from 1964-1980. That is now two generations old. History has passed them by.

Florida Gov. Crist is a far more likely prospect for being the GOP standard bearer in 2012 than Palin (SarahSixPack.com). Her flame will burn out in the coming months as hard right pundits and pols recognize that she simply cannot be sold to the broad electorate -- she's too dim witted and unpolished, and she's tainted by this last campaign. Has anyone read what Minority Leader Boehner has been saying? He wants their party (GOP) to be the check and balance of Obama so he doesn't lead our country into Socialism?
