I don't recall the Republicans having anything close to a 60 seat majority in the Senate during any of that time period. Things like SS reform and banking reform got filibustered out by the Democrats. On most other things though, there was solid support from the Democrats for the Republicans plans on things such as the war and tax reductions.

The republicans are in the same situation they were in when Barry Goldwater (Az)ran for POTUS and lost. It took 16 years before the republicans won again. Add 16 years to those in the GOP and they will all be older than McCain. Sarah Palin will be old and grey. here in Texas, we'll elect almost anything that runs as a Republican. It doesn't even have to have a pulse. Example: our greasy Governor Goodhair Rick Perry, who (despite his unpopularity) got reelected in '06 with something like 34% of the vote.

the republicans ran this year on the ground that they are not democrats, and they lost, big time, because they gave no reason why we should vote for them...rather, we've been given proof of every reason not to vote for them, and to vote for the dems...face it, the dems fix up repuke's messes. Considering the DNC put $0 into his campaign and he was heavily HEAVILY underfunded and he was a Democrat running statewide in Texas, I'd say Noriega should have gotten beaten by about twice what he did.

I'd hardly call anything about the Cornyn campaign "strong", except for the stench of his hypocritical black and white "post partisan" ads.

Cornyn is a sacrificial lamb. He's being setup to take the next big hit in 2010 and they'll bring in someone else in 2012 in the hopes of making some gains back.

It won't work since your talking heads: that stupid Hannity, the ugliest, snappish, questioner Greta, big fat wind Limbaugh who pleads more chaos, holier than thou Dr Laura, and don’t forget the other huffy, Laura and petulant Ann Coulter will not ask for democrats and other interest groups to join forces with republicans unless these groups will conform to their selfish ideologies.

Mark my words petty partisan-ship is in decline; whether they and you agree/perceive it or not. Hands off tax cuts, our military President Elect Obama and continue Washington’s new, changing agenda. Sixty is the magic number you can’t deny.
