Indeed, it is a really huge step for us, since President Bush won the last two elections by a margin of more than 20 % points to less than one-tenth of 1 %. It’s showing that Oregon wants to change away from partisan-ship and divisiveness coming from President elect Obama's vision .

Utah, like most states, counts all the votes in the state before they give out electoral votes. Obama lost the state, he just won a county. And let me guess, you're one of the Obama voters that believed the Republicans controlled both houses of congress.

I'm so hopeful that within my lifetime (I'm almost 50) the faction/sect of religous fundamentalists will completely lose their voice in government and politics. There is separation of church and state for a reason. I'm a christian, but that does not make my beliefs right for you or any body else... they are simply my beliefs.

Salt Lake is a tiny light of progress surrounded by a very darkly red state. This isn't really a surprise to anyone I know here. In fact, had Bush won this city, I would have been genuinely surprised. IN reality, I only a couple planned to vote Republican in this cycle (disclosure -- I am not Mormon, and most of the Republicans are hiding in that community). My suburban neighborhood was saturated, absolutely saturated, with Obama signs.

Morover, realize that Salt Lake City proper has elected Liberal Democrats as Mayors for twenty some odd years now. In fact, our last, Rocky Anderson, is known world wide as being one of Bush's most vocal critics.

As a mormon in Utah, I voted for Obama. Do not just look at SLC. Obama won two counties in Utah. This is a big thing - shows how well people responded to his message. Also note, other counties were much closer than in previous years.
