I'm trying to decide why it's so important that Obama make a statement on these attacks. He'll be president in less than 2 months but he obviously thinks he's president now.

While Rice updates Bush on the situation, Barack has to stick his nose in it. Something America better get used to, including their lives.

These attacks are another cold reminder of how bad terrorism is in the world. The Government of Pakistan has not done enough to fight the war on terror. The concern here internationally is, how this incident will effect Pakistan-India relations. My guess is that it will have an even more negative outcome, and the escalation to force could occur. The scary situation here is that both countries have nukes, and are not afraid to use them. This situation for our military forces in Afganistan, just became a whole lot more dangerous. This is a situation that we need to keep a close eye on. Big time!

The favorite targets of Islamic incitement to hatred are still Israel, the United States, and India. India has suffered the longest and partition did not end the problem. How then will further partitioning of Israel end this sort of mass murder? Think again. Heartfelt sympathy is a good start but we need new thinking about hateful ideology and how people pump themselves up to kill and die for causes.

Are we prepared to look for ethical flaws, cold-heartedness, psychological manipulation and institutional abuse in Islam and all the so-called great religions? Dare we to speak about the flaws in corporate values or secret US military operations like the Bay of Pigs or the overthrow of the Iranian democracy?

Professor Obama has a lot to teach us and how he frames the issues and who he includes in the discussion --and decisionmaking --may help us take constitutional law to the next level of international decency.

How do we tell other countries to separate Church and State when one of our national parties makes out the other's candidate as allegedly "non-christian" and only Colin Powell speaks up against that? How can we try to stop hate-filled preaching in mosques on other continents when the vitriole of anti-Obama ranting filled our cyberspace for weeks on end?

And what about international treaty responsibilities and making the United Nations into something that really works on universal principles? It would take real Obama leadership to get us talking honestly and openly about the unintended Islamic dominance of the UN General Assembly, the archaic structure of the Security Council, the ad hoc structure of the Quartet, the G-8 and G-20.

And when will we finally get around to discussing the anthropocentrism that allows us to ignore the human destruction of the global ecosystem as if the only life that matters is our own?

It would not be enough to just talk this time.
US should decide if it is serious about fighting terrorism.

This has happened before. Just look at what happened after 93 Bombay blasts. Dawood Ibrahim the master mind is still free and lives in Pakistan.

World always asks India to exercise restraint when these things happen.

Question- How many more people have to die before the World realizes that the root of all terrorism problems is Pakistan. Just look at where all the terrorists (911, Iraq, Afghanistan) were trained - It leads to one place - Pakistan (Apparently US Ally on terrorism)
