Although I don't necessarily agree with the senator's politics, Mel Martinez is a class-act. Best of luck to him and his family.

It should be exciting to see all the Repubs fighting for his senate seat. Jeb may have a problem getting much of anywhere on the national stage due to his infamous brother, but a lot can happen in 2 years.

Good move, and a good start, for the Republicans. Martinez is yet another "centrist" Republican. One of too many. We see what Republicans trying to get along with the very Liberal Democrats has done for the party, gotten more Democrats elected. Florida has a deep bench of Republicans that can easily take this seat in 2010.

How was he "punished" Stacy? By being welcomed back to the caucus and given all but one chairmanship back to him? He wasnt even forced to give up the other chairmanship. He was asked to step down so the administration could bring in some new blood and he agreed. In fact it was Obama himself who made sure Lieberman was not treated unfairly due to his support of McCain. It's a well documented fact Stacy. You should inform yourself before passing judgement.

Though the Bush name is poison on the national stage, Jeb is still a credible possibility in Florida. His handling of the 2004 hurricanes and his popularity in the Hispanic community are just two reasons why he may be the strongest Republican candidate to fill the upcoming vacancy. And even though Obama won Florida in the general election, the Florida Democratic party lacks any big name candidate with statewide recognition, especially with Alex Sink (Florida Chief Financial Officer) recently stating that she would run for re-election for that office. She may re-consider with today's Martinez announcement. It is still 2 years until 2010 but I really do not see any Democrat who would be competitive with any of the above named Rebublicans.

FR - Maybe I really never paid attention to the media before as much as I did doing the very important presidential campaign.

But, now that it's over and PE Obama has won, I am finding myself becoming very annoyed by the speculation being done and the fortune telling attempts being made by commentators like - Chris Matthews, etc.

Then I say- it’s not a bad thing, but when I watch the Chris Matthew show, people like him began to do a bit more that speculate. Chris does something more, he speaks as if, what he says has happened or will happen... it is weird and upsetting sometimes.

Or he tries to stir up a story in hopes of being the first journalist to predict something.

I just hope Chris and others like him do not loose their way and remember that if we the people want a psychic or a fortune teller - we could easily call a 900 number and talk to someone that claims at least to be an expert in that field.

Please, just report the news - don't try to make it.
