He may have had a TIA. This is something similar to a stroke but often is undetectable and the victim may or may not ever have another. We found out about them when my mother had one. The cause is unknown. If he takes care of himself he may never have another one. No one can be sure. Perhaps it was brought on by stress. One would think it very stressful for those in the Bush Administration right now.

Either way I, for one, am glad he is doing better and wish him continued good health.

Methinks Mukasey has a different definition of "justice." It's one thing to say that it'd be dangerous to free the detainees (now that we've tortured them), and quite another to call it "justice" to keep them in prison without any legal grounds. What about the rule of law that Americans are so proud of? Can't wait to get Eric Holder in as AG to whip the DOJ back into shape. I didn't like Ashcroft, the AG in Bush's first term, but he was a saint compared to incompetent Gonzo and this clown.

It will be good to see this individual go very quickly. His version of "justice" is very immoral, and criminal in nature. The Bush-Cheney Justice Department is in name only. This department has crossed lines of humanity, morality, common ethics, and dignity. Holder is going to be very busy next year, and the mountains of corruption over the last 8 years will be shocking. Holder, and his new staff had better be sure that no documents are being shredded. Holder will need to start building up criminal cases against Bush, Cheney, Mukasey, and Gonzalas. Justice delayed is justice denied. If justice is not applied equally to every citizen. Then it is not worth a thing. No one, no matter what their position, is above the law. That is fact America!

The terrorists, or "detainees", will be released to go where ever they please to go. You'll then be seeing them getting killed off by US troops as they resume their terrorist activities, well, at least for the next 40+ days or so. After Obama gets in office, hostilities will end. At least US hostilities. The terrorists will be still be walking into hotels, killing civilians, and blowing up things. I'm sure we, the US, could meet with them somewhere, and talk this stuff out.

Its time we faced what we have been doing for the last 5 years, torture, illegal imprisonment, kidnapping, The geneva convention has been a a55 wipe
for this corrupt administration. GWB and Dick Cheney
should be tried for thier war crimes. I do come from a military family, I have strong feelings for our military men and women and can only imagine how we would feel if our familey members were snatched off a battlefield and imprisoned for life, A lot of the men
at Gitmo were sold to us by drug lords in Afganastan, for whatever reason. We have to get to the bottom of this mess, one of the worst made by Bush and Cheney. We dont even know who is a terrorist and who isnt. We still have to find a way to let the innocent go home.
And of course we cant let them go inside the USA. They must go home, and if they wernt terrorist I am sure they are now, so we will probley be fighting them on another battleground, still we have no choice but to do the right thing. As I said the Biggest mess made by the sic Bush and Cheney.

The War on Terror

Those four words are what is wrong with America's approach to these radical groups. Terror is not a region or an individual."The war on terror" has created a culture of fear in America. The Bush administration's elevation of these four words into a national mantra since the horrific events of 9/11 has had a pernicious impact on American democracy, on America's psyche and on U.S. standing in the world. Using this phrase has actually undermined our ability to effectively confront the real challenges we face from fanatics who may use terrorism against us.
The damage these four words have done is infinitely greater than any wild dreams entertained by the fanatical perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks when they were plotting against us in distant Afghan caves. The phrase itself is meaningless. Terrorism is not an enemy but a technique of warfare.A political intimidation through the killing of unarmed non-combatants.
Fear obscures reason, intensifies emotions and makes it easier for demagogic politicians to mobilize the public on behalf of the policies they want to pursue. The war of choice in Iraq could never have gained the congressional support it got without the psychological linkage between the shock of 9/11 and the postulated existence of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.
George Bush would never have been re-elected in 2004 if Americans did not believe that changing heads of state would enable the terrorists to attack us. Bush and Rove somehow got a majority of Americans to believe Bin Laden and his army were poised to cross the atlantic and coming knocking on our doors.
The events of 9/11 could have resulted in a truly global solidarity against extremism and terrorism. A global alliance of moderates, including Muslim ones, engaged in a deliberate campaign both to extirpate the specific terrorist networks and to terminate the political conflicts that spawn terrorism would have been more productive than a demagogically proclaimed and largely solitary U.S. "war on terror" against "Islamo-fascism." Only a confidently determined and reasonable America can promote genuine international security which then leaves no political space for terrorism.
I feel that our response to 9/11 was correct. We knew where they were. We knew who was harboring them. We struck quickly and decisively with full support of the international community. After that we began to completely blow it. We invented "The War on Terror" and the paranoid notion to attack them wherever they are regardless of intelligence and the blessing of the world community and where has that gotten us?

We are less safe than we were 5 years ago.

Americans can no longer differentiate between Muslim and terrorist.

Our standing in the world has diminished and with that the cooperation and sharing of intelligence.

Vague answers to who is responsible for the Mumbai attacks. "Well we dont really know who it was but it darn sure looks like them al-qaida types!"

We all need a change of ideology as much as our government needs a bold change of strategy.

The incompetent Dept of Injustice will be promptly replaced. That fact that some arrangements must be made for "dangerous" detainees is just that, a fact.

It is absurd that we have permitted the paranoid mentality that existed after 911 in some quarters to remain in place for over 7 years. Gitmo has undermined our credibility in most of the world.

Mulkasy has proved to be just another of W's poor appointments. Hopefully, as several above have suggested. Holder will act promptly to restore our image in this area.

Keith O. pointed out months ago that when Habeous Corpus is suspended, the Bill of Rights becomes moot.
For those that say, but these people were enemy combatants, I ask where is the proof of that assertion! Without a trial and access to an attorney and the evidence, the process is an inquisition.

What kind of medical advise is Mukasey getting? Why would they let someone his age who just experienced passing out on stage leave without a proper explanation as to why this occured? The would still be doing test if they couldn't find an explanation. He's lying. He's been told why this happened. He's choosing not to share that medical information with the rest of us, which is his right; but he should just say that and not lie about it.
